I'm sure everyone, since they have joined this guild after all, likes Folk Metal... but what about the music that gave roots to one of the greatest genres of metal? Make this a place to post great non-Metal Folk groups, or even folk albums by metal bands(such as Ulver's Kveldssanger, or Agalloch's The White EP). I'll start off with some of my favorites.

Espers - Great Psychedelic Folk Group
Of the Wand and the Moon - Such dark, yet peaceful music...
Vàli - Lovely music here...
Neun Welten - Probably my favorite Folk group, along with Nest.
Nest - The kantele is one amazing instrument...
Carved in Stone - Great female vocals here...
Mercedes Lackey - Fantasy/Folk music sung by one of my favorite authors.
Morgan the Bard - Medieval Folk Music. His Falkenbach cover is amazing.

I know and love these. Just heard of Vàli tonight and wanted to get some sometime. And someone from Battlelore was telling me about his undying love for Of The Wand And The Moon recently, we just couldn't remember the full band name at the time, lolz. domokun

I love love love neo-folk (also other folk). Ultimate favourites are Empyrium and Death In June. Need to get those Circulus albums upped and hoed sometime soon.

Empyrium's folk stuff is great... but I've never been able to get into Death in June. Nor Current 93 for that matter.

I've not really heard Current 93, but Death In June just has this amazing thing to it that I can barely explain.

This is interesting... I looked up Death in June on YouTube, to get a feel for their sound again, since I deleted all the stuff I had by them... and the song I first listened to sounded nothing like what I remembered them sounding like... What I remembered hearing reminded me of Current 93 a lot. Slow, dirge-like songs, with really strange vocals... but the songs I just listened to remind me more of Of the Wand and the Moon. Perhaps I'll have to redownload Death in June's stuff. =) Something tells me the albums I got before were mislabeled or something.

They change the overall sound quite abit, the later stuff I'm on at the moment is more kinda martial/neo-classical. Maybe Rose Clouds Of Holocaust sounds most like Of The Wand And The Moon, has a same sort of twinkle to the guitars. wink
