Resting under an apple tree, the half-kalona yawned as he tried to take a nap in the shade. He had spent the day before with his best friend, Aquene, and it had been quite interesting, yet tiring. He was not in the mood to fly that day, so his wings rested in their folded form against his back. Pink eyes staed out lazily under heavy lids, sighing as he watched the grass before his eyes. Very green, it was. ... Very boring it was too.

At that moment, something purple caught his eye. His rose! Aww well, he'd get another from his mother anyway. He nudged the delicate flower towards him, indulging in the delicious scent. No wonder why his siblings said he smelt like flowers... He hadn't really thought about it before.

((Title inspired by Aladdin. xD One of ther merchants says something about an item "for the pretty lady". xD))

"Come back! I only wish to be friends." Sadiki's voice broke the day's silence, her desperate plea causing her normally melodic voice to wobble out-of-tune.

Those words, when spoken by a foal, were often found to be endearing or precious. Some elders, the ones who would watch over their charges' pursuit of this or that woodland creature with smiles creeping onto their wrinkled faces, would even call those words 'charming.'

... But when those words graced the tongue of a fully-grown mare? ...

Sadiki reared, pawing at the air before her and letting out a heartbroken whinny. The butterfly was moving ever higher, further and further out of her reach. Eventually it become naught more than a speck on the horizon.
The mare's gaze lingered on the speck for a moment more, and then she heaved a sigh and turned away. Regaining her footing with an effortless grace, she turned away from her 'lost friend' and went on to look for more willing company.

... Those words were considered eccentric, at best.

Somebody was talking... Calling out? The dark red stallion lifted his head, his pink eyes looked around for the source of the voice. It wasn't hard to spot the figure in the distance that was in distress. It was a mare, if not obvious by the tone of voice, and she looked... Sad? His brows pulled together as he watched her silently, unsure of what to do. She was walking... Kind of, in his direction... Maybe she'd notice him? He didn't want her to have a bad day, and if she didn't see him, well, her day might not lighten up.

It was a little arrogant to think she'd be happy to see him, and he knew it. But it just seemed like when somebody was down, all they needed was someone to talk to - a friend. And mares liked that, didn't they? He looked down at the rose that had fallen from his hair, and grabbed it gingerly by the stem in his mouth. He pulled himself to his hooves quickly and gracefully, but watched her for a little longer. Tossing his bangs, he began to walk towards her slowly, second guessing himself.

Her saturnine gaze fluttered across the terrain, fluctuating in a manner quite alike that of a butterfly's flitting wing beats. Her eyes traced each tree, shrub, and rock in turn, leaving no part unexamined.

Though she was quite capable of entertaining herself when need be, she much preferred the jubilant and betimes tedious conversations that could be had when in the presence of others. In the sanctity of her own mind, she was capable of anything... she could continuously outwit herself, determine the cause of a dew drop's gleam, determine ways in which a sunset could be captured in the two-legger's flower dyes, even fly away from the land her hooves could never truly leave... but such accomplishments paled in comparison to the utter bliss of a conquest made outside such realms of fantasy....

Not one insect to be found. Not one small woodland creature scurrying about a pile of browning leaves, not a single bird singing in the trees nor a frog in the bushes, not one...

Ah.

Her gaze fell upon the form of a burgundy stallion of behemoth proportions, one possessing the clear-cut masculinity only present in those blessed by some manner of God or simply very good genes... and yet there was a softness to him. A gentleness of spirit, mayhap, that canceled out the imposing power such a form may have held if the heart inside was of a darker cut. Perhaps his company would prove to be as pleasing to the mind as his form was to the eye?

She moved forwards a few paces, her head tilted at an analytical angle that caused her long bangs to whisper becomingly in the slight breeze.

Her eyes held whispers of sadness about their edges, the sole lingering effect of having failed to befriend a butterfly.

The stallion paused in step when the dark mare took notice of him, and he assessed the situation quickly. He didn't take a step forward until she did, as to make sure she was fine with his advancement upon her. He released a pent-up breath, and continued forward at a relaxed pace. Close up, she was very nice on the eyes. The dark black of her coat and the vibrancy of her swirls reminded him much of his siser and father. She was very feminine by the looks of her... And very sad at that.

Belial was moved by the emotion in her gaze, and he swallowed hard. What exactly had saddened the mare so? Hopefully she wasn't one of those mares that were psychotically emo sad, supposeldy like his cousin... Oh well, he'd find out soon enough.

After leaving a good five feet between them, he lowered his head and dropped the laender rose, his eyes never leaving her face. "Err..." Oh great. He was already starting off badly. "Are you alright?" Smooth, Belial, smooth, he thought, but didn't show the uncertainty on his face.

She smiled slightly, the corners of her lips curving upwards in the barest hint of pleasure. Her eyes traced the path of the lavender rose as it fell to the ground, then rested once more on the form of the stallion a few feet away.

"The butterfly's rejection daunted me, though I am certain that I shall recover." Her melodic voice had regained its comely cadence, all traces of her former despair banished in an instant. "Thank you for your concern." Her eyes warmed faintly, her gratitude clearly expressed in those swirling twin pools of grey.

"Do the events of this day please you?" She queried, wishing to show that she was not entirely self-centered and that she, too, cared for the well-being of a perfect stranger.

A butterfly rejected her? If it had been any other mare that said something along those lines, he would've thought her to be petty. But when the mare before him spoke them, he found it to be rather... Sweet, that she desired the attention or freindship of a butterfly. She didn't seem to take much attention to the rose, but perhaps he didn't offer it properly? He lowered his head and nosed the flower towards the lavender maned female, smiling softly.

"This has been the only event of the day, and to be honest..." He sheepishly smiled and chuckled a little nervously, "I welcome it very much so." He took a step towards her and bowed his head a little, his bangs falling into his line of sight. "My name is Belial," he introduced, "It would please me very much to know your name." His voice sounded a little hopeful, but he wasn't going to reject a mare after she had been dismissed by a bug.

She blinked, tilting her head to one side in question. Her now-benign gaze followed his movements as he bent to nose the lavender rose towards her. A hesitant smile formed on her lips in answer to his.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Belial." For once, those words were more than simply courtesy- she truly meant it. This stallion puzzled her, his halting movements and goodhearted charm adding an air of puerile allure to his already winsome form.

She lowered her delicate head with thoughtless grace, her neck arching as elegantly as a swans. She peered upwards at him, her inquisitive lavender eyes framed by almost too-long lashes that curled upwards to the heavens.

"I am called Sadiki." She pronounced her name with an accent that was unplacable, the subtle inflection of the syllables pleasing when spoken by her melodic voice.
An underlying question played through every line in her body- the hesitant yet hopeful tilt of her front hoof, the subtle way in which her ears remained fixated on him and yet her attention seemed to be divided (partly on him, partly on the yielding petals of the rose that lay on upon the grass)...

Is this meant for me?

Those words were often abused, spoken so much that they were said out of courtesy and as a basic conversation starter. But the dark hued mare before him... When she spoke those typical words he felt warmth and a truth behind them he had maybe herd once or twice before. There was something incredibly exotic about the mare... Sadiki. The name was as unusual as she was, but in a good way.

"Sadiki," he enunciated her name unintentionally, letting it roll off his tongue in practice. "That's not a name I've heard before. It's very pretty," Belial said quietly but loud enough for her to hear. He glanced down at the rose and felt a need to explain himself. "I-It's for you," he explaind thorugh his teeth, "It's no butterfly, I know..." He grasped the rose he had placed on the ground gently with his teeth, and tilted his head as a gesture to place it behind her ear. He peered through the misplaced strands of his bangs as he watched for her response.

A slight deepening of color bloomed upon her ebony cheeks, tinting her skin with a partially rose hue washed with dusky black. Her blush was spawned not from embarrassment, but from pleasure. Never before had she received such a thoughtful, if simple, gift.

"Thank you..." she murmured, her soulful grey eyes regarding his. She smiled warmly. "... Being something other than a butterfly is no fault...." her voice was entwined with spiraling sincerity, the purity of her voice unblemished by false praise or mendacious ulterior motive. "... This beautiful flower lacks wings, and so it cannot... fly away." Her benign gaze took on a melancholy air reminiscent of the one that had graced her features before Belial had entered the scene, though it was banished promptly by her good spirits.

"I wish I had something for you, in return." Sadiki had been raised by a family who believed no good deed should go unrewarded, though one should never expect a reward for one's good deeds. As it was, the underlying principle of the mare's childhood had surfaced at this gallant gesture.

Belial caught onto the funny color on her ebonycheeks, but thought nothing of it. A handful of mares tended to get them, at least to him it seemed. It crossed his mind that she could be blushing, and he associated that with embarressment. Belial however, didn't think she was embarressed by how she spoke. She appeared and sounded grateful... And that made the dark red stallion smile boyishly.

As she spoke about a gift in return, his pink eyes narrowed. He closed the distance between them hesitantly, gingerly placing the rose behind her right ear so that it was tucked nicely between her very light purple locks and her dark ears. There was a very nice scent... The rose? Or was it her mane? He pulled back immediatly when the thoughts crossed his mind, and he shook his head in an attempt to clear it.

Looking back at her, his smile remained, "I need no gift, but it would... Make me very happy, if you would remain with me for a while? Err, we can go for a walk?" He knew he sounded a tad ridiculous, and he jerked his head a little to hide behind his curatin of bangs.

Sadiki's breath caught slightly as he tenderly placed the rose behind her right ear. She was grasped by a sudden, entirely uncharacteristic urge to seek a reflective surface and see if what met her eyes would be a pretty sight, or if her lackluster features dimmed the beauty of the lavender rose.

When he pulled back, she was smiling.

She was indeed a breathtaking sight. The fragile rose looked stunning when framed by her ebony ears and soft forelock.

The fact that she was entirely unaware of the entirety of her beauty served to make the sparkle in her eyes less alluring, and more friendly. The subtle curves of her body less blatantly seductive, and more comfortably alluring.

"It would be my pleasure." Her left foreleg was poised in the air, hovering lightly above the ground. She waited for his direction: Where would they be off to, on this walk he had proposed?

Breathtaking was right. The thought tugged at his heart for some foriegn reason. A pink hued mare with sunset colored locks flashed before him and disappeared as soon as it had appeared. He blinked hard, only seeing the stunning mare before hm. What exactly was that? Deciding to ignore it or now, he quickly smiled back at her.

He took a few steps towards her and gently nosed her cheek towards the right to lead her in the right direction. His touch was ginger and purely cordial and gentlemanly. It would be rude just to walk ahead of her and lead her s if she were some two-leggers dog. He kept his wings tucked firmly against his back, and they were beginning to ache from being tucked for so long. Like the funny flash of a certain mare, he ignored it.

"I... So Sadiki," he started, looking out towards the direction they were heading. He had no clue where they were headed. The cliff that he and Aquene had visited pulled at him, but since Sadiki was not able to fly, that was out of the question. "Do you keep home around here? Or did you travel far, chasing that butterfly?"
PostPosted: Mon May 26, 2008 1:10 pm

Sadiki let the gentle touch move her, placing her hoof in the direction that he had indicated. A small smile fluttered across her lips at his considerate touch: she had never been guided before- simply led, pulled in whichever direction her companion chose to take. The ebony mare had never found reason to complain at such treatment before, but now... she found she rather enjoyed it.

"... I often wander far from what may be considered my home." her gaze became distant as she though her the family she had left behind.
Of the father whose heart remained forever fixated on the form of his lovely lifemate, sparing only passing glances for his children because they were a part of her. Oh, he loved them. He cared for their well-being. His genuine concern led him to instruct them on the proper codes of conduct to observe when in the company of others, to help them when they were in need, much as he would have a complete stranger...
Of the mother whose gaze never strayed from her lifemate, always keeping him in her peripheral vision as she cared for their children.
Of her siblings... of all five of them, only one had ever made time for the youngest daughter. Only one had sought true friendship instead of a bond of blood...

With a gentle shake of her head, such thoughts were banished.

"Sometimes, you just need to move..." her gaze flickered to the form of the crimson stallion walking alongside her, an embarrassed light shining in their grey depths. "... Yourself? Have I intruded upon the land you consider your home?"

Belial was grateful she hadn't taken his gesture as some sort of "move" or something inappropriate. He smiled when she accepted it, and began to walk in the direction he had nosed her in. He was careful toremain at her side, if not a step behind since he never was one to walk ahead of a female. Pink eyes registered her distant gaze as she thought of her family, a light smile on his face. Even though she wandered far from her home, it appeared she had connections to her family.

If only he could say the same. Looking ahead, his eyes flickered quickly to the ground as she turned the question to him. A chuckle escaped his throat and he shook his head, "No, thi sis not my home. I've traveled far from where I was born as well... But I do visit, promise." He stole a glance at her, taking in the rose in her soft mane. A sense of pride filled him, and he was quick to look down, embarressed.
