User ImageAetna had been traveling through the woods all day, and her sore little paws started to hit soft, muddy earth. She looked up, and to her surprise there was a rather large pond right in front of her. A grin broke out across her maw and she sprinted to the cool liquid with excitement.

The small puppy leaped into the air, hovering for a moment above the clear waters. In that instant she caught a glimpse of a large fish and many small pebbles beneath it. She hit the water with a big splash for such a small creature, and laughed aloud at the sensation.

Aetna swam through the liquid, one of the few things the young wolf was good at. She loved the water more than anything else, and she floated in its depths happily, ignoring her surroundings completely for the moment.

Shuffling her way through the growth, the femme only could wish she felt as good at the moment as Aetna did. Right now she was only weary. She and her brother had stayed up all night practically attempting to soothe their sister who'd had a sick coughing fit brought upon her. Nothing had really helped, though they'd tried everything.

Ears flickered forwards deftly at the sound of momentary splashing, but Mastilan deduced it for nothing more than a frog hopping from the nearby pond. Nothing much else lived out her except for the usual prey, and they themselves were no threat unless you managed to get yourself under their hooves.

Aetna floated through the water lazily, enjoying the sun warming her head. Her eyes scanned the area for the first time, taking in the trees and boulders around the pond. Her eyes passed over the other puppy briefly, not registering what the saw. She then did a double take, looking at the grey and pink puppy curiously.

Aetna was never a shy pup, always in the mood to play she grinned before paddling towards the other.

"Hey!" She shouted as she reached the shore, pulling herself out dripping wet. She shook off, sending water in all directions before grinning at the puppy, tail going a mile a minute behind her.

"I'm Aetna! What's yer name?" She asked happily, her head tilting to one side.

The femme brooded over what could help Moranna, every once in a while taking a quick nibble of a plant on the side of the natural path to see if, if anything, it had a pleasing taste that might calm her sibling.

Sadly, there was nothing so Mastilan had to subdue herself and take the time Mahli had given her to rest and relax to quench her insatiable thirst. Despite how many rivers there were here, there never seemed to be close enough to where they were. This well-sized still pond was the closest thing.

But it wasn't expected to be a meeting place, and at the happy voice piping from the water surprised her and caused the female to stop in her tracks. Another wolf? But that was right near impossible! For a moment the wolf sized up the new one, thinking it was an illusion made from her deranged mind, but it wasn't.

"...I...Mastilan, dear." She spoke softly, calm despite her imminent shock.

Aetna blinked a few times, still grinning. She had the feeling this Mastilan was a sort of serious puppy, unlike herself. But Aetna was always willing to please, and she sat down, still dripping with pond water.

"It's nice to meetcha, Mastilan!" She said happily, tail wagging in the dirt. "What brings you out here?" She asked, wondering if the other puppy was alone or if she had family.

Aetna didn't know why, but she was usually obsessed with the idea of family. She didn't know she had had one at some point, since her other personalities came to be. Illythia and Tohm, her two other personas, hadn't revealed themselves in quite a long time, since Aetna hadn't been in contact with anyone, thus making it easy for her not to think about the tragedies she went through.

Finding it rude not to do so as well, the corpse-colored pup sat back on her haunches, thin tail attempting to curl around her leg like a cat as she inspected the pup. The poor thing obviously wasn't well off, for one she was walking round alone in the woods, and two she herself knew the signs of loners. Thinner frames, less than pristine coats, though she'd only seen lones and vagabonds from a distance, it was safe to say this pup had to be one of the two.

The pup's bright disposition and clear eagerness to talk brought her out of her thoughts, mostly by curiousity and surprise alone. Where she was neither quality was very prominent. "Me? Oh, you know deary, just out for a walk to stretch the bones. Mahli let me on leave for a ta' while he looked after Moranna."

Mastilan nodded with her words, without realizing setting herself off to jabber like a bird.

Aetna watched the other intently, her bright sky blue eyes never leaving her. When Mastilan mentioned other names, Aetna tilted her head to the side curiously.

"Who's Mahli and Moranna?" She asked, not intending to be nosy. She wasn't aware of social ettiquette, since the only other souls she had come in contact with were the wolves she met along her wanderings. She was never tught that it was rude to pry.

"Are they your family?" She asked with a softer smile now, as if the idea had some magical quality she couldn't quite grasp.

The thought of her sister and her brother alone at the den resurfaced once more and a thread of worry crossed the femme's maw, brow furrowing slightly. She should go back to them, but of course, she wouldn't do much good since there wasn't a thing she could do about Moranna's fits. And Mahli was taking good care of her.

Besides, she was with another wolf, if anything that counted as a good distraction to keep her away. She was even enjoying herself, despite how early in the conversation it was. It was nice to speak to someone outside of her brother and sister.

The pup shuffled slightly, nodding with a soft smile gracing her lips at the way that Aetna said family. "The closest thing 't a whole one I gots. We keep e'chother together, y'know? When it's slim pickins?"

Aetna smiled and nodded in agreement, though a bit of a frown spread across her lips. The image of a small dark green puppy was forming itself in her mind. She had the feeling she should have known who he was, but it was like a memory from a dream, the harder she tried to remember, the further away it became.

Suddenly a memory began to resurface, but just as she almost had it in her grasp she became blank-eyed, staring at nothing for a few moments. When she blinked again her entire being seemed to change. A scowl formed on her face, and her pose was one of arrogance. One oif her other personalities had surfaced, saving her from remembering her brother's death.

Illythia eyed Mastilan with a cold, calculating gaze. "Well, I think family is sometimes rather useless, and many times tedious." She spoke slowly, every word dripping with contempt. Nothing like the free-spirited, kind pupy that had been moments before.

As Mastilan talked on a bit more about Moranna and Mahli, it felt like a small weight was lifted off of her, and slowly but surely her stiff face broke into a soft smile. However, she side-stepped or backtracked in the conversation whenever her parents somehow were half mentioned. She didn't want to talk about them, either of them. They barely were considered as such to her.

Her gaze moved from her paws, where, she realized she had been staring while she'd rambled, and, blinking she noticed something was different about Aetna.

"You al'ight, love?" Mastilan inquired softly, noting the change in her personality. She weighed the harsh words for a minute, almost stung by them. "The' can be a bit of a challenge, sometimes, yeah. Bu' that don't mean they're useless.."

She huffed, sitting with a bored expression as Mastilan rambled on. The green puppy looked up at the sky, as if watching the clouds was more interestng than paying attention to the conversation this grey pup provided.

"I'm very well, yes." She said, glancing with now cold blue eyes at Mastilan. "Perhaps your family isn't useless, but my experience with families has lead me to the conclusion that I'm better off without them." She spoke bitterly, glaring at nothing, as if her piercing gaze could someone reach into the land of the dead and to the family she no longer had.

"Could we please talk about something else?" She said with an exapserated tone. "The topic of relationships really tends to annoy me." She looked back at the grey puppy, her expression bored yet again. She licked at one of her paws aimlessly.

The pup's new-found offensive and, to her anyway, seeming snotty personality was a definite turn-off to Mastilan. As if she didn't have enough of this from her so-called mother! What had happened to the nice femme she just so recently met? Apparently courtesy went only so deep.

Even so Massy stayed polite, realizing with some disappointment and submission this was one of the only chances she'd have to talk to somebody else not blood-related to her. "Yes, yes of course we can." The pup responded, almost eager to change the subject, but not so much as to provide a new topic. What did pups talk about?

A very faint smile crossed her maw, glad that the subject was going to change. Illythia always protected Aetna's memory from the tragic deaths of her family members, as did Tohm.

"Thank you kindly." She said with a nod, the adult words and actions seeming rather odd on such a small femme. "Are you traveling, or do you live here?" She asked, looking around. "It's quite lovely, I wouldn't mind settling down here. But alas, the wanderlust will take me over yet again." She chuckled softly, her bright eyes going back to her new aquaintance. Mastilan was a kind soul, it seemed, even if she did have different views on family, and even Illythia couldn't be too rude to her.

Massy gave her head a soft dip, looking around her uncomfortably. At the moment the pup was unsure of how to react around the pup that seemed to change her tone like the tide, and the motherly nagging feeling for her sister and brother, who both needed taking care of.

The oddly colored pup looked back to Aetna, a soft frown forming on her maw as she inquired about her residence. They lived in these lands only because no-where else would take them, she assumed. "At the moment, yeah, w-I do. " She chuckled in an afterthought.

"Though one these days I'm goin' to be out of there, travel on m'own."

The emerald puppy nodded with another small smile. "Ah, yes. Adventure, excitement, traveling the world to find your place in the great scheme of things. Always good." She chuckled lightly.

"I've been traveling for a while now, trying to find my own purpose." She said softly, dreamy-eyed. Illythia's made-up past was muh less tragic than Aetna's reality. Illythia left her family as a teen, wanting to search the world and see all the sights she could. Her family was still 'alive', and she felt bad for Aetna.

The small green puppy looked over at Mastilan, her eyes focusing again. As long as the topic of family had even a slight chance of resurfacing, Illythia would remain. "I've seen quite a number of things. But there's always more roads to travel and more mysteries to solve." She smiled softly, almost motherly, at the grey puppy.
