Paul Revere congratulated himself on once again escaping Zahara and the basket. Oh, he knew it was selfish and cowardly, no mistaking that, but he just wasn't ready to be raising a basket - especially one that wasn't even his.

Snickering, he trotted down the forest pathways, ignoring the mixture of slush and mud that threatened to grab a hoof and trip him. He was free (for the moment) and nothing was going to ruin his good mood!

Fluorite, on the other hand, was very interested in the slushy mud, kicking it into small piles and staring at them intently before moving on to the next one. Her mother was a great psychic. Why couldn't Fluorite be a great psychic too? The gift hadn't simply come to her, so she'd just have to find it herself. Something out there she could divine from. Unfortunately, she was starting to suspect it wasn't snow.

With a snort of annoyance, she brushed away her latest little mound with her tail. Well, phooey. The sound of hooves coming down the path nearby startled her and she began to dart toward the nearest tree. Between the slush and the roots, it was impossible to get very far on her short legs. She slipped and fell, landing amongst her little piles.

Between the bright sunlight coming down through the bare branches of trees and the remaining pale snow, Paul Revere was able to see the dark foal sprawled on the forest floor and stop before he ran the child over.

He stood there, surprised. He'd never actually seen a foal before. Of course the stallion knew he had to have been one at one point, but that was irrelevant.

"Well, hello there, li'l 'un," he offered good-naturedly. If the world was going to contrive that he should have something to do with children, he might as well give in gracefully.

Fluorite got back on her feet as soon as she realized that it wasn't one of the skinwalkers or kalonas that were said to haunt the woods and prey on foals. This horse was too goofy and brightly colored to be a monster. She stepped close, just out of range of a lunge.

"'Ello. Who're y--" She stopped suddenly to correct herself, pretending to look like she was deeply concentrating. "Wait, don't tell me. Don't tell me. Your name... It starts with a... a 'suh.'"

The stallion blinked, a bit confused. Why was this little filly trying to guess his name? Well, he'd play along. Sort of. It was hard to play along when she wasn't guessing right.

"'A 'suh?'" he repeated. "That doesn't sound quite right to me...why don't you try again, li'l lady?" the older Soquili offered kindly.

The foal looked surprised, then embarrassed, then annoyed, and finally an uneasy sort of tranquil, as though she were meditating while being attacked by a swarm of angry hornets. What would her mother say if she didn't have 'the gift'? She didn't want to be the odd one out. She was suspicious enough that her brother and sister both could divine the future, much like Sa'ida. Why, every time the clouds rolled in their mother predicted rains, and she was always right. It was downright mystical.

"My... my thoughts weren' clear that first time. Gotta really concentrate. I'll get it this time," she added, stalling for time as she wracked her brain. One hoof kicked a bit of slush away behind her. None of the sounds she could make really sounded much like a description of the horse across from her. "Your name... it's... it starts with... a chuh. Chuh.... Chah... Chava...tanga...kwunua? Yes! Chavatangakwunua!"

The stallion blinked. What was the little foal up to? She really wasn't very good at this, whatever she was trying to do. Should he humor her? It was probably the better idea, but he couldn't even remember the cockamamie name she'd thought up for him!

"Sorry, that ain't right either, li'l miss," he told her gently. "My name, it ain't very tribal sounding," the stallion hinted. He wanted her to succeed, he really did, he just didin't want to be stuck with a name he couldn't even remember!
