Im trying to find christian correlations w/ the harry potter series...
i know this may be a bit controversial but...
i personally believe that they (the books) may have sorcery/wizardry...
but i believe that its just a setting for a story...

Nope. They really do cast spells and do magic. It's the main premise(right word?) of the series. *face of disgust*

Check wikipedia.com for more info if your still curious. (I do!)

Imperfect and weak people, including authors, do their best to inspire one another and lift each other up. I agree that there are certain things that are truly meant to lure us into sin, but I believe that if we're not careful, we may be depriving ourselves of a useful or invaluable tool because we judge based solely upon it's flaws without considering the good that it can do if we use it properly.

Like fire, we can use many things such as the Harry Potter series to spark energy in ourselves and be edified in many godly ways, but if we don't control such tools, like with fire, we can get burnt or even be consumed. It is my opinion that if you are careful to be wiser than fiction or false doctrine then you'll be just fine as you read Harry Potter. In order to be so wise, seek the Spirit of God to guide you. Remember the fruits of the Spirit described in Galatians 5 and trust only what brings forth that good fruit.

One thing I remember from the first book that may interest you as far as Christian correlations is the part where Ron sacrifices himself to allow Harry and Hermione to pass through the giant chess board in order to thwart Voldemort. Also, the line I like best from that entire book comes not long after that.
J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, p. 287
"Harry -- you're a great wizard, you know."
"I'm not as good as you," said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let go of him.
"Me!" said Hermione. "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things -- friendship and bravery."

This teaches something similar to what Jesus taught when he warned his disciples about the scribes and pharisees.
Matt. 23: 23-24
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

By both of these examples we are reminded that, rather than judge us by what we purport to know or how clever we are, "the LORD looketh on the heart," (1 Sam. 16: 7). I believe we ought to look similarly on the heart of people and ideas such as Rowling and her books as well.

No there is no such thing as socery or magic in the books. rolleyes

I'm just messing with ya. xd And you are right the sorcery and magic is setting for a story. Like anything else. It's harmless unless you believe in it and think the whole story is real. If you do then I would say go see a psychologist or a psychiratirst.

It's a classic tale of Good versus Evil. And I mean classic. It is a good read. Just try not to get yourself too caught up in it.

I thought the same thing. "If you know that it's bad, it can't hurt you spiritually." Wrong!!!

I watched Inuyasha thinking the same thing. "Demons are bad so this is just a fairytale. As long as I remember that, I'm good to watch it!"

I ended up falling away from the lord without realizing it. Just because you know it's bad, doesn't mean you'll be any less affected.

Just like regular poison. Just because you know cyanide can kill, doesn't mean that you can take it and not be killed by it anyway!! Just because you know that jumping out of a plane without a parachute is suicide, doesn't mean God is any more inclined to save you from your own stupidity. Christian or not!!

I hate it when people think that because they know that it's ungodly that means that they'll be safe and protected while doing that ungodly thing.

Being a christian and robbing a bank doesn't mean your less likely to go to jail than a non-christian.

Please don't figure this out on your own. Learn from someone elses mistake. MY mistake.

.....please.

Aquiella, your "WRONG". Reading harry potter is harmless. It doesn't matter if you read it. Its a book. The only thing wrong with that is nothing. Unless you take the spells seriously, and start to commit them and all that, everything is fine. Its imagination. What's wrong with that? It happens all the time. There is no reason to think it is a sin to read a book.

hmmm... think about it this way.

"Avoid the very appearance of evil" says the bible.

Now does ANYTHING in that book 'appear' evil to you? (say "DUH!!")

personally Duroonsia,
i think you are somewhat wrong because there are people who will take things serious enough...e.g. i heard a few days ago that kids are sending Fan mail to J.K Rowling to get into Hogwartz
I understand what your saying but lets be considerate...

Um.

That's quite a bit of a stretch.

I mean, first, you're implying that Hogwarts is Heaven - and it most certainly isn't.

Secondly - something about "the Kings Cross".

King's Cross is a REAL major railway/Tube station where just about everything comes in and goes out of London, really. About 50% of the Underground lines run through it. It even hosts the EuroStar rail system.

The point is... it's just the name of a rail station - I mean, my goodness, she could've picked Waterloo or Paddington - but there are more internal and international connections to King's Cross than anywhere else. At King's Cross, you can go places. That's why she picked it.

A cute touristy addition, though - from King's Cross:

And here's how I really feel about it:

... so. Yeah.

ok fine well...
but what if you were to call the Deathly Hallows the Trinity?
and only through those may you achieve eternal life?

I would call into question the fact that it's "Deathly" - because our Trinity is very much alive.

I would also bring into the playing field... numerology!
3 and 7 are common numbers to be labelled as "perfect".
