I was curious; is anyone else's husband had a vasectomy? My husband had his done about 5 years before we met when he was still married to his previous wife. He had a daughter w/ his ex-wife and shortly after, had the procedure done.
I hate to be selfish but I would have loved to have had children w/ him. I've discussed this w/ him also and he feels as equally upset about it as I do that we can't but I can't help but still ache over it. Does it make me a horrible person for feeling a little resentful?

I have heard you can sometimes have a vasectomy reversed? at least I have seen billboards in Texas that advertise it can be done.
I can understand being upset about not being able to have children.. As long as you don't hold onto that resentment, which could damage your marriage, it comes as no surprise.

I'd feel bummed out, 'specially knowing he had a kid and you don't get to with him. I think it's ok to feel like that, but just like that1gal say, don't let it ruin thing between you two.

But man, get that done after one kid? That's jumping the gun a bit: /

I've accepted that this is the way it's going to be and no, I won't hold onto the resentment b/c our relationship means too much to me. Sometimes, though, it creeps back whenever I find out a friend is having a baby or something. I don't say anything to him about it though.

Have y'all looked into a reversal procedure? Maybe you guys could talk to a doctor about it. I know it doesn't always come out to surgery equaling fertility again, but for some it does. Here is an interesting article on reversal versus sperm retrieval.

I think it is perfectly fine for you to feel a bit selfish. He is your husband. If it is something both you and he want I would say look into either of those options.

You know, if for some reason a reversal is not doable at this point, there is also in-vitro. He still has his sperm, it's just for being used. They used to do those types of in-vitro procedures all the time at my hospital.

EDIT: I see delicatedisarray has posted a good article about both methods

i know i'm uber young and really don't know much about medical procedures involving genitalia, but if i remember correctly, you can have a vasectomy reversed in most cases.User Image
