This is the prologue to a story I'm starting to write, and the general idea came from one of the old Rp's That i Pray created. Would love comments and any helpful hints on how to improve the story.

Prologue
Soul stared at the surrounding Council Members, what Duran was suggesting was madness. “You can’t actually believe that disbanding this council would actually help the people of the Isles. This council has stood for twenty years, and since it was started the clan wars have broken up, and many towns and cities have prospered by the shared trade. How can you believe that this is what’s best for each region? It seems more like idiocy than anything else.”

The Isles was a collection of islands, situated in the Sylon Ocean. It had faced many dangers, mainly the Clan wars which had ravaged and destroyed much of the islands' natural features, but they were a country of survival. The wars had been stopped to combat a greater enemy, the men of Kuza. The men of Kuza are thought to be the devil’s men, reigning* over villages, killing all that lives. They moved with such force that many in the Isles thought it was the end. But one member of each clan woke up one morning; sure they had found the way. They met with these other people, expressing their belief that they would need to join forces, become a country to save their land. At first they were suspicious of each other but as the war went on against the Kuza they learnt to trust each other. Once the war was over the Clans decided that they could never allow this to happen, creating a Council that would meet once a year to discuss issues, pass decrees and look towards improving relations between each region.

“I’m going to have to agree with Soul on this one. We may be desert people but we have found that we have prospered from the union of our regions. I don’t see why we should remove something that stopped us from fighting between each other. I, Nodra, vote against this motion. I feel that the desert people will gain nothing from this decree.”

“I also refuse to acknowledge your proposition Duran. I also feel that the desert people have nothing to gain from this. I feel you are only trying to make you vie for power more easy by disrupting the progress we have made over the years. Our lord doesn’t trust you Duran, and I follow in his thinking. I, Gordano vote against this notion. ”

“You must be kidding. I can understand Soul not agreeing, he has always been in the pocket of the King and Queen of Anara-“

“They are the king and queen of this country Duran. My mother and father would be fascinated by your accusations. As would I Duran, a member of the council, someone who has tried to help you become accepted by these people. You might have a following with the council members from Redlyon, but Kilcon has a reputation for being bandits in our region,” Aya interrupted, angered.

“Aya, be still,” Soul replied, glancing at the other members. “Duran, you seem to only think in terms of power and alliances, and only of alliances that will help you. We are supposed to be selfless, using our power to overrule the King and Queen only when it is deemed that they are abusing their position.”

“Yes, but how does that help when they control this council? Once we walk into this room, which is situated in your beautiful region, the region which has been also called the region of prosperity, we become under control of the King and queen. We are cut off from our lords, who serve not only the King and Queen but also their own region. Why is it that last year our minerals were traded at only a fraction of their proper price, because the council decided that the minerals were not as valuable as other resources? Why was it that many of Anara’s products were sold at prime rates, yet again helping the region of prosperity, the region where the King and Queen live,” Duran replied, turning to the other members.

“Both of us, members from the Redlyon region, vote to pass this decree. We agree that Anara has gained more from the union then any other region. We will not stand this injustice, and neither will our Lord. For a long time now he has known about this proposition, and many of us feel that it is only right.”

Soul turned around, that only left Aya and Kate. “I do not believe this is the right decision for our land, in fact it will only bring more wrongs into our land, but as a representative for Kilcon, I must bow down to my Lord’s wishes. I also, vote to pass this decree.” Soul smiled at Kate, he knew how hard it was for her to allow this. Her father had died in one of the Clan wars; he had been helping a man from another clan when he was shot, an arrow piercing his heart. No one knew who had shot that arrow, but Kate was sure it had been one of the people from her father’s clan, believing her father had betrayed them.

“Well that just leaves our Aya, to make this decision a tie. Isn’t it so predictable that our little princess would agree with her family, that she would put her own wellbeing in front of our other regions? I hope she can live with herself when her family is living on other regions' misfortunes. I must say, she really must be heartless to do this,” Duran taunted, obviously having some effect on some of the other members.

Looking around Soul sighed, this wasn’t going well, and Aya was being backed into a corner by Duran. Duran knew how to manipulate people; he had learnt it from his father. The only reason Duran could be pushing this was to use the lost faith in the King and Queen to eventually remove them from power. There was more going on behind the curtain than Duran was revealing.

“I also vote to pass the decree. My family have never intended to control the council, and have never intentionally tried to disadvantage any region. On behalf of the royal family I beg for forgiveness if we have wronged you.”

Well done, Soul thought to himself, it wasn’t over done, but it was apologetic. Aya was a skilled diplomat, as well as a warrior. She had seen what Duran had been doing, and had done the only thing she could do; allow the regions to learn on their own that they would only prosper if they worked together. The truth was that each region was divided by natural boundaries.

Anara was a region that succumbed to regular rainfall, causing them to produce the best crops. There were two small islands off the main one; they were primarily farming areas, receiving the most rain. The main island was divided by a mountain range about two thirds of the island east. Past these mountains was Kilcon, a region populated by mountains and mining towns. Their main export was gems and minerals, or ceremonial weapons crafted by the wizards or witches situated on the small offside island. Most of Kilcon was on the island connected to the main Island by a land bridge.

South of these islands was Vandri, an island almost as large as the main one. It is largely populated by the desert people, tribal people who are thought to be uneducated and violent, which they aren’t. The desert people do travel in clans, with only a couple of actual cities, which are located near the main river. They are mainly mercenaries, employed into the Royal defence teams due to their skills in first aid and their general strength due to the harsh conditions they live in. Finally Redlyon was a smaller island off to the west of Vandri. It was mainly populated with ruins of past cities and towns, home to the other town populated by wizards. They mainly traded trinkets, not having rich enough soil to grow crops or harsh enough conditions to produce skilled warriors. Yes, that was the Isles, a collection of Islands that produced freak weather conditions.

“Soul, what are we going to do? Disbanding the council will create so many problems between regions, especially if Duran continues to manipulate them, convincing them that we mean to cheat to gain our products.”

“It’s okay Aya; we will all get through it. Duran’s plans will eventually reveal themselves, and then we can work on repairing his damage, until then we just need to concentrate on keeping channels of communication open between islands," Soul replied, nodding the other members as they walked out.

* I'm not sure if that's the right word...?

I've finally had the chance to read it, hooray!

Is it really based on one of Leafy's rps? I can't place it...

There are one or two spelling mistakes that I observed, and would like to know if I am allowed to edit them in bold without you being offended?

I am intrigued by the story; I feel like there's something missing, but I'spose that's just coz i want the story to continue and flesh out.

That's cool Phoenix, that's why I put it here. If you have any ideas on how to make it better then by all means express. Will hopefully get a chapter up sometime this week.

Preliminary spelling/punctuation editing done. Not bad; I tend to have many more typos in the things I write XD
