You know when the snow melts, it's nearly spring, there's puddles up to your ankles and everything is warm and messy? Well, the day was like that! Everywhere she stepped, Vieno had water covering her hooves and parts of her legs. Oh well, nothing could spoil this mare's mood, she was just fine, nifty and happy! With a flick of her tail, she continued on, spirits high and feet... wet.

It was then, the mare was faced with an obstacle, the puddle in front of her was gigantic and going around it seemed like a bad idea considering it was all muck and slush. Her only choice was to jump over the puddle! ...but if she timed it wrong it could get messy. Hey, what was life without a little adventure? The mare asked herself as she started to back up. Once she felt she was far enough away she galloped toward the deep looking pool of water, hooves thudding against soft, muddy ground. When she reached the puddle she pushed off with her back legs and leaped over the muddy nuisance! All cleared, she thought triumphantly before she felt something wet spray up in her face. Oh dear.... she'd missed one puddle and ran right through another. She still hadn't learned her lesson about paying attention!

Now flecked with mud and water, the mare looked fairly rugged and less clean, not that it really mattered to her. Sighing happily, she shook herself, spraying bits of water all over before she trotted into the forest. It was darker in there but definitely less muddy. Glee filled and content, Vieno began trotting down the path, hoping to go visit whatever was on the other side of the forest. Well, if she didn't get lost on her way there that is...

Quiet and in a rather discontent mood, the half-kalona rummaged around in the dark shadows of the trees overhead. The forest floor seemed more like a marshland with all its soggy ground and mud-riddled terrain. Oh how he hated dirt---the likes of it hid the shine of his golden cloven hooves and made the coat's thin fur clump together. Mud was such a troublesome thing for one so 'handsome as he.'

The vain stallion tried his best not to pay attention to it. But that was failing quickly. Finally in a near upmost foul mood he gave a loud snort and stomped the mucky ground. Ushering a long string of very inappropriate swear words as he did so, of coarse. After the shout died away, his ears picked up the 'quish quish quish' of someone else's hooves plodding through the forest floor. Interesting he thought. Someone was clearly coming his way. He stood himself still within the shadows of the trees near the trail, waiting to get 1st glimpse of what was headed his way.

So, the plan to get to the other side had failed because Vieno didn't even know if there WAS another side. She stopped long enough to shake her head, flick her tail and glance around. The mare had decided she was alone but she heard something like a voice in the distance... Curious, golden ears flicked forward, brown eyes darting to see ahead of her as she continued up the path slowly, unsure of what she'd fine. Fear wasn't in her system at that time, in fact she was mostly excited, maybe she'd meet a new friend! So far in this area she'd only met nice mares and stallions ready to have a good time. She didn't think there could possibly be horses out there with rude or obnoxious personalities! It seemed she was in for a surprise.

When the other finally noticed her presence, Vieno was just about able to see the outline of the stallion. The color of him was most strange, pinkish with yellow and white? It was nothing like Vieno had ever seen before but it definitely did look nice on the stallion. He had braids littered throughout his mane which also added to the stallions looks, Vieno thought he did look most lovely. The only thing that bothered her were the large, curled horns coming out of his head, which she noticed upon getting closer... and when she got closer still... a nasty scowl upon his face.

You can't judge a book by its cover, Vieno told herself as she continued on. Maybe he was a kind and handsome gentleman! She told herself this, keeping her cheery attitude in the whole situation. Another horse wouldn't be a threat, would it? Of course not!

((Its Ivory on her teepee mule since I'm teepee updating <3))

Apparently his plan of seeing the oncomer 1st had failed. Parixaeus raised an eyebrow, his scowl turning into a toothy grin. It was a mare, practically frolicking towards him with glee. If she'd seen him 1st, wouldn't she have turned and run away? A kalona---well half in his case, but he hated reminding himself of that---lurking in the shadows of a forest would have sent any breed or gender of Soquili running. Cept for one of his own of coarse, then he would be more likely to leave since fullbloods were far to cocky and vain, and ugly...very very ugly.

He was at least lucky to have his looks (or at least HE thinks he looks are lucky. xd ) And so as the mare of the most basic race there is approached him, he came forward. "Well, well, well..." he replied. The words from his mouth were for once slyly elegant rather than sharp. "What have we here? A mare. A lesser. And---a muddy mess" he analyzed. "Luckily for you, you don't appear to be an eyesore benieth all that mud though" the stallion continued.

Had Vieno known what a Kalona was, perhaps she may have turned and ran in the opposite direction. She wasn't the bravest of horses in all honesty. Being the keen optimist she was, she told herself that just because you wore a scowl and a pair of horns didn't make you evil! Or perhaps it did and she just didn't know any better. Only time would tell because the mud-covered mare was approaching the stranger slowly... whether or not it was to her doom she had yet to find out.

Finally, she got close enough for the stallion to look her over and speak if he had the urge! Well, speak he did and it was safe to say he hurt the mare's feelings. For as soon as he'd called her a lesser, even though she knew not what this meant, and a muddy mess she felt self conscious and insecure. Vieno had always told herself she wasn't all that beautiful and she didn't care, but deep down when someone mentioned it she always felt a stab of pain. So, shaking her head to get a bit of her mane out of her eyes she sighed, about to speak before the male finished. Was that a bit of a compliment? ..or was it a well hidden insult? Vieno didn't really know.

She tried for a little laugh, "Heehee... yeah... it's rather hard to avoid the mucky stuff..." she lifted a hoof to show how incredibly dirty that was as well. "Eventually all the mud goes away though, right...?" Vieno tried, trying to keep a light conversation... hoping the stallion wasn't really quite as rude as he'd originally been.

As the mare had closed in awkwardly near for someone of her type to be around a kalona, Parixaeus knew. Even though as she'd drawn near he'd admired her looks benieth the mud coating, it was her personality that had to pop the bubble.

Daft and sickly perky...that was always a huge turn-off.

The stallion decided that he'd humor himself anyways. Such a pity her brains didn't seem to match her beauty...but...maybe just maybe she was moldable yet. Ignoring the pathetically chipper comment on the 'mucky stuff' (as she'd childishly called it) he too carried on the conversation.

"Yes. It goes away. Soon the lands will be warmer and it will dry the grounds" Parixaeus replied rather straightly. He looked over his shoulder a moment to be sure others weren't around, then glanced back at her with any eyebrow raised. Slyly he said, "Quite interesting you are. But do you know what I am? Who exactly you're talking to?" He didn't intend to sound threatening, but he did come off a little dangerous sounding.

Maybe the daft mare wouldn't pick up on that anyways.

The comment about the earth drying up surprised Vieno, the stallion didn't seem to be one who carried on a conversation but she definitely liked to give them the benefit of the doubt. She was glad to know he wasn't quite as rude as he'd orginially been, or was he just trying to make up for it? "I'm not sure which I like more... the mud or the weather that makes everyone gasp and search for water," the mare sighed, shaking her head. It was easy to see that this femme liked the warm weather and tried to avoid the hot. Not to mention it made sense, especially when looking at her thick coat and long mane, that certainly had to hurt in the summer time!

The conversation quickly changed and Vieno tilted her head, looking at the male curiously. He had a dangerous sort of tone to his voice and she wasn't quite sure what it was for. Being new to the land certainly had many down falls, she didn't know anything about anything it seemed. As she listened to him she wondered if he meant that he was somebody important she should have been head over heels for. Or perhaps she was being disrespectful, oh no... that wouldn't be good! With a sheepish grin, the mare shook her head, mane flying around as she did so. "No, I don't think I can say I really do know who or what you are..." the mare spoke softly.

It was then a thought occurred to her, what if he was talking about his oddly sharp teeth and the horns on his head. Did that make him an outcast to society? Oh, that would be terrible, she'd hate to be an outcast... to be unliked. Not that it really mattered to this silly mare, she'd befriend anyone she could outcast or not! If he was talking about something else she'd have to wait to find out what because no more ideas were popping up in her mind.

Wow. A mare that really didn't know what a kalona was, or how to recognize one. Most parents taught their offspring about the 'evils' of the world---kalonas and skinwalkers---and how to recognize and avoid them. Maybe the nut fell really far from the tree...either that or her mother, if she knew her mother was too dippy to care.

He paused a moment in his own thoughts. Or maybe she just didn't have a mother---eh, but then where would she have come from? Anyhow, the stallion shook off the wave of ideas and smirked; although not in a malign way. "I, am what they call a kalona" he began, "Or at least---I'm half blood kalona" he continued. He said the 'half' part as if of coarse it was better than being full blood.

Figuring it would now be his 'task' to inform her what a kalona was; he carried on before she could ask that question. "A kalona is a being in which most of your kind---regular plain blood Soquili's highly fear. They're like, demons of the land I suppose. Most pure-bloods are vicious and bloodthirsty and hate any other races---even half-bloods of their own kind. I am the better half of a kalona. Where-as I have power & strength of great measure like a pure blood, I am fortunate enough not to lack in intelligence as I think they do" he explained, "Being half makes one a good bit better, in my opinion. They can have the perfections from two sides and know well enough to not be blind to the imperfections that pure-bloods have and act on!"

Vieno hadn't gotten out much in her lifetime, so perhaps she didn't know about the things she should have but she didn't mind. Her past wasn't something she talked about or explained so she let others think whatever they wished. It didn't bother her that she knew less about the world than others around her, but then again... not much did bother the poor mare.

"Hmmm... well, I don't think I'm afraid," Vieno admitted, "Maybe they're just misunderstood like a lot of other horses are. You sir, seem far too handsome to be cruel and evil." Of course, she wanted to compliment the male because it was something Vieno seemed to like best. When another impressed her she often told them so, why keep it to herself? "I'm glad you're a half blood and intelligent then," she smiled to the stallion, "I think closed minded animals should definitely open up a bit." Even with the dangerous edge to this stallion's voice and his different appearance she wasn't afraid? There was something wrong with this mare, that or she was too silly to leave when she had the chance.

She'd been told once to treat others the way she'd want to be treated... she couldn't recall who'd said the wise words but she knew they were important. When you respected others you often got respected yourself. Scowling and making the other party miserable often ended in disaster so Vieno always tried her best to make everyone feel welcomed and liked. She'd had enough disaster in her life and didn't need anymore. So, to prevent any problems, she tried her best to keep everyone around her happy.

At the flattering comment the half-blood nearly swallowed his tongue. That wasn't something he was expecting her to say. Hey, at least she knew handsome when she saw it. "Well I'll have to of coarse retract my previous impression that you were quite daft. Naive to have approached someone even half kalona without caution, but not daft" he began, "Although I should warn you. Many are nowhere near as understanding and intellectual as I am. Especially not pure-blood kalonas."

He gave a toss of his mane and smirked, clearly even more friendly now that the plain-blood mare had given him a good ego stroke. "Anyhow, not commonly my thing to forget to ask a pretty face their name...might I know yours? I'm Parixaeus, son of plain-blood mare Paris & pure-blood kalona, Persephonix" he exclaimed.

"Why thank you, I think?" Vieno spoke softly to the male, unsure of how to reply to what he'd said. She of course hadn't had anyone to teach her about the horrors or wonders of the world. Not everyone knew that though, so she couldn't exactly say anything to him or blame him... Parents were supposed to teach their children about these things and hers... hadn't... but it wasn't entirely their faults. Was it hers? That was a possibility... "I suppose you're right, I'm not all that careful," she smiled honestly, "I tend to give others the benefit of the doubt and it often leads to trouble."

Introductions, Vieno could do those! Once again, she smiled at the half kalona and nodded, "That's a wonderful name, I think it suits you well, Parixaeus!" Still smiling and in a cheerful mood, the mare decided it was safe to offer up her own name, "I'm Vieno, very pleased to meet you!" That said, she bowed down slightly, showing him that she truly was pleased to meet him.

"So if your father is a Kalona and your mother is... a plain-blood, as you call it? That means she'd be like me, if I'm guessing correctly?" the mare questioned softly, "Does this mean that not all pure Kalona are... well, does it mean some like plain bloods?" Vieno was confusing herself, trying to use the stallion's terminology but she tried and you always got points for an attempt.

"Pleasures indeed, Vieno" he replied suavely, ever more ego stricken by her 'bow.' At her questioning about plain-bloods he smirked darkly. "I'd never yet met a pure-blood kalona who's liked anything less than themselves. They don't even like half-bloods, to them they're worse than being 'plain-blooded' due to their b*****d heritage. I however am more open minded, as I said before, and I am also willing to consider plain-bloods worthy of affection---only of coarse they are more er---accepting & respecting of kalona half-breeds, of coarse" he began.

Vieno didn't quite understand the half kalona, but she figured it was no big deal really. Although she was sort of curious as to how his parents got together, had they somehow managed to start a relationship despite their differences? She knew little about this ever changing world so it was always nice to ponder and ask questions when she could but... this time she felt like she'd already asked far too much and was intruding. It certainly wasn't proper to ask about one's parents' love life. She had to small inwardly at that thought, had her parents had a love life? Now that was something she didn't want to think about or guess at.

His comments made her ponder his family life as rude as that was. His father was a kalona as he'd told her, did that mean he didn't feel his son was worthy to be... his? The mare wasn't quite sure she understood, for if she was to ever have a family she'd want to protect and be with them always. Smiling to herself she looked up at the stallion, surely his parents loved him as much as any parent would love a son or daughter? She understood if that wasn't the case though, not all parents were loving and respectful of their children. Vieno sighed, she hoped this stallion had a warm, loving, family life to go home to, he certainly seemed to deserve one. Alas, once again, these things were none of her business so she couldn't really ask or question the new acquaintance.

"I think I understand, kalonas are one to stick to their own kind, mostly?" she guessed, hoping she was at least headed in the right direction. "I have to be bold though," she giggled, "I'm glad you're a half-blood and accept me somewhat... for there's no way we could have met or even attempted at being friends if you weren't! I mean... I'm no kalona," she said, looking down at herself as if to make sure. All that she found was a mud-covered body and matted feathers around her feet. Sigh, she must have looked terrible. Not that it mattered much, she really wasn't out to impress anybody.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:21 am

"I accept you only for your intelligence and beauty. You are smarter than the average mare for your race---thats redeemable" he replied rather snidely. He had seemed to have forgotten for a moment he was talking to a lesser and that made him a bit irked with himself. "Being half-blood to me is like being the greatest and best of both worlds. The kalona in me makes me powerful, fierce and bold. Where-as I'm only accepting of my plain blood side due to the fact it allows me intellectual dominance along with the physical dominance of being part Kalona. As I've said before, I have all the virtues but not the vices" he continued serious.

He didn't want her thinking his 'nature' was to allow the company of lessers. or thoroughly enjoy it. However, this particular situation was a little more unique. He was intrigued by her beauty and how moldably accepting she was.

Her intelligence and... beauty? She'd never been called beautiful before and it was a bit shocking. The poor mare wasn't sure if she should have thanked him for the compliment or asked him if he was joking. Vieno found herself average if anything so she wasn't quite sure why this stranger had called her anything but. If it was a compliment, Vieno was taking it badly for she was flustered and unsure of how to react. She soon quietly bowed her head, hiding the sudden coloring of her face and spoke softly, "I thank you... it's very kind of you to say."

Less flustered, her brain finally coming back to her, Vieno peered up at the other, listening to what he'd had to say. She did have to agree with him, living as a race that disrespected most races but their own must have been terrible. Unable to imagine only having friends of her own race made the mare partially sick, she couldn't imagine being mean to another. So, nodding her head slowly she replied ever so softly, "I think I agree, physical strength certainly has its perks and it's never smart to only accept those of your own kind. Funny, I would have never thought half bloods to be better than pures but you've certainly taught me otherwise."

She smiled, wanting to keep the conversation light and comfortable. "Parixaeus?" she questioned, hoping she'd pronounced his wonderful name right, "Do you think you could teach me more of your kind? I hate to admit that I know so little about this place and the species that live in it." It was true, Vieno was like the filly that had just popped out of the womb, she knew little about anything but tried to take in information as quickly as she could.
