Well unless you limit yourself to checking toolshed.down.net or Tool's official site, you've heard the news about the band starting on the next album. Considering the 5-year gaps between Aenima and Lateralus and 10,000 Days, this is pretty early by their history.

MTV
...yes, there's also Tool's fifth studio album to think about. While he wouldn't say much about the forthcoming LP, Keenan did reveal that the band would soon be reconvening to start kicking around song ideas.

"We're going to start writing the new Tool record right away," he said.

That said, there's no time table for the disc — Keenan didn't say when he expected the band to start tracking the effort, when it might be ready for release or what it might sound like. But with Tool's touring schedule wide open for the foreseeable future, he said it's time for the band to buckle down. He also elaborated on Tool's creative process.

"The music always comes first," Keenan said. "We all get in a room, shut out all the extra noises from the other people and what goes on outside the room and just focus on the four of us, where we are that day. And then we just start making sounds."

Seems early, but it sounds like they're only just starting to talk about it.

It'll still take the required five years, I'm sure 3nodding

Well you know, that's true. I remember them talking about writing the next album way back in 2004 and that didn't come out until 2006.

Hmm, hopefully it'll come out in a few years (if they do decide to go ahead and make it).

Bring on 2011!

Puscifer will take a surprising turn and become amazing, effectively putting off Maynard's commitment to Tool. Or more likely, APC will reform.

No actually I'm pretty sure that they're going to start releasing albums and stuff a lot quicker than they have been. Makes sense. Specially when you think of how fast our conciousness is progressing and growing. Tool of course will, follow suite.

Brad Angle of Guitar World magazine recently conducted an interview with Tool guitarist Adam Jones.

When asked how the new album was coming along, Jones replied:

"It's been coming along...great! [laughs] No, we've been on hiatus. I'm writing and [bassist] Justin [Canchellor]'s been writing, but [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] has been working on his wine."

"We've all just been taking some time away from each other, which has been nice. I've also been working on producing some comics."

The entire interview can be found in the latest issue of Guitar World, out on newsstands now.

Tool have been on break from touring and writing since early 2008, following nearly two years of supporting their most recent studio album, 2006's "10,000 Days", which marked its first set of new material since 2001's "Lateralus."

Damn. I'd absolutely love another Tool album, but it looks like that still won't be happening soon. I'm glad to see that is will be happening, but I don't want them to rush and produce a generic album. Generic Tool would still be good, but it would lose that innovation and that quality that sets it apart.

I wouldn't want another 10,000 Days. I kind of get the feeling that Tool will disband out of nowhere before making another album.

Last I heard, any new APC songs might involve some more experimenting along the lines of eMOTIVe (musically; I really doubt lyrically)

I wouldn't want another Undertow, but I like that album. I just think if there's another in that style, it'll lose something. 10,000 Days has great, original songs on it and a repeat performance (with new, original material) would be great for me. 10,000 Days is an amazing song, along with Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two, and Vicarious. The Pot is good, but I've heard it entirely too much off the radio. Jambi is alright. I prefer Vicarious.

Okay...I just looked at when the thread was created.wow...really?Either way I like to voice my opinion about Tool/APC. I had heard they were making another album awhile back...roughly the time of this threads creation. Well I dont really mind waiting for new Tool albums. I get antsy but then I'll just be like..."Mmmmmm Opiate." Im sure when/if they do release it it will be very enjoyable and I will end up closing myself in my room and listening to it through big head phones....what other way is there to listen to Tool?
Oh...wait...live.
The beauty of Tool is that they won't release an album untill they are satisfied with it (or so it seems) so I'd much rather them take as long as they want to release euphoria for my being.
APC related..PLEASE KEEP IN MIND I LISTENED TO THIS ON THE RADIO
I heard that they were not going to release any actual album's but rather songs on the internet via the website. Which totally sucks because I'd much rather pay the 15 bucks for the actual cd...or hopefully record.
Thanks for reading.
I almost forgot..someone posted something about a re-release of Salival. As much as I would like them to do it...I would loose bragging rights. lol.
Seriously though I'd just get that one too and I hope they do so others can enjoy the packaging...which they would probably change up.to distinguish the versions.Who knows....

Yeah haha, since I've posted this thread, I've realized it's more practical to just wait for solid proof and details since the guys will just keep working on it until they're content with it. Seems like MJK is doing mostly Puscifer, but the past has shown he can do more than one project at a time too.

The APC thing has been confirmed by both Maynard and Billy, so there seems to be some legitimacy to it. I don't think either of them want to do a big commitment to APC again like the past (big album promotions, tour, etc.) so the little song here and there is better than nothing. They released a new EP in April, although it was purely by Virgin Records and nothing was new.

I want to see another Tool album in 2011, see Puscifer get kickass over the next four years and release an awesome album in 2013, and APC to get back together directly after the new Tool album, and release a new album in 2014.
