I dance mainly ballet, but I like to dance other styles.
Many great dancers don't dance ballet, of course they are great in other styles, not in ballet.

Well ballet is the basis for everything, so if you want to make a career out of it then it's important you have it. But if you dance for fun then whatever you like!! 3nodding

I take ballet, but I also take a variety of other classes as well. I noticed when I took a year off from ballet, that things that were normally easy for me, got harder. Ballet is a good foundation for any kind of dance you want to do. Most dance companies look to see if you have a background in ballet, because it really helps you in whatever kind of dance you do.

i do a ton of ballet, but i also occationally do hip hop and used to do jazz.
