and I'd appreciate some help.
To begin I'll describe where..
My RPC character comes from a world known as Pardwyn. (yes a very slight alteration of Paradwyn from Magi-Nation, a card game... lol I love it and the name) This world mostly is comprised of desert, with the occasional tropical jungle along the coasts. People here are often close, and the community as a whole watches out for one another. Considering there are only a few habitable places where major cities sprung up, and if you don't live their your more then likely a nomad.
Another important aspect of this land is the fact that gods or deities are not only greatly respected but they interact on a regular basis. unlike other creation stories, once the gods finished shaping the world and filling it they remained, and continue to shape it to this day. There is an afterlife and gods who remain there but any deity can travel back and forth and it is believed the spirits of the dead who are not cast into the swirling blackness of the great void can too return in animal form. So as you can imagine life is rather interesting in this land.
Another thing I try my best to do is incorporate a style of Egyptian and Persian, with Egyptian taking more priority, however not in language. I want the language to represent the name of the world which to me sounds 'whimsical' of you will. So my basic idea of accomplishing this would be that most sounds are soft and flowing, while words with a, say 'darker' meaning, bad for example, would sound harsher and be more blunt. Giving obvious indication. Im not certain how well that may work but also, and I haven't figured out how to make an exact system yet, but when a person is angered, sad, yelling the words regardless should be somewhat harsher to give the correct tone. Though someone here may have a better suggestion.
So far I don't think I followed my own example well >> and I was having a lot of trouble trying to list the sounds, trying to have them differ from English (not everything of course.) but I was using a guide that explained where the sounds come from and so I tried listing them under it.
anyway besides that I need a better way to start, how do most start abotu making a language? Should I begin by simple making sounds and forming words and then applying their meaning? OR as I try, attempt to imagine what words would be needed when language is first created and go from there, word-my language, next, and so on.
What I really need is someone I can refer to often especially when in the middle of attempting to continue on with this and giving a thumbs up more or less now and then and offering ideas.. lol.
words to draw from.(these are all names from Magi-Nation I felt that since Pardwyn is from it that other names, ones I liked, might be a great aid. Course they can not be used themselves, considering the sheer amount >> I hope it helps instead of hurts but I may use some as is or slight variations, its bound to happen.) Pardwyn alaban ayebaw narth cashp orish pharan lasada plathus sphor warlum yarothis sorreah husp phrup weethan raylon elios parathin bungaloo frusk flugg heppeswip lascinth osatch speag tweave umwar vuryip zassyfer iyori kesia marella yerthe zaya flist orish makoor mirago moob muggum mydra pyder treepsh bagala dasia ghazran khisp lahalou rala hwit arawan ardonia bazha boria culla eryss kioko iain liriel ookami taisa yricho scyalla orshaa aula looph umbu ababila bulabantu drahkar habob izmer mowat nemsa obsis olum sareb szhar thrybe uban ahron dey gherish harresh hasseth mohani nahara risha ythra yaromant yaw cawh sylorum bwomba kwup torpar plith archid kiersta pardar thresh rehlya amara craw korremar nymat salara porphin minani ushi
now as far as the alphabet goes I was thinking of using...
vowels: a- father aa- long tone e- feather ao- saw o - yo ea- earth u- up ΓΌ- moon eu- ew i- beat ii- long tone ey- queen ye- yet ee- ween wy- when oi- 'wa' or moi in french. ua- water au- now
consonants: p- pine t- tea te- tay d- duh m- mat g- guh c- cat V- Van r-ran rl- (rolled slightly)(try saying irlos with r and l quickly togeter) l- lay th- that s- see sh- shift shi- city su- simply (s) but circle your lips. h- hat hu- who ho- hoe ch-chair w- water wh- a oo-ah type sound. ph- f f- fey(less resistance) y- same as English n- neat nu- nut z-zebra
(thus far, I figure vowels are something that will be needed more so then 'normal')
Sentence structure: SVO
Adjectives: adjectives are placed after what they describe with an of separating the words. Things are not this or that, they are of this or that. Words like Very, that add to the description, become a suffix added to the adjective.
Adverbs: adverbs become prefixes. They will always end in a consonant, however if the word after would begin with one as well it is removed leaving a vowel in it's place.
Prefixes: prefixes become a small word placed before a word and only separated by a ' to show they are connected.
Suffixes: suffixes become a small word placed after a word and only separated by a ' to show they are connected.
aaand I think thats about all I can think to say right now ._.;
also um I hope this would be the right place to post this.. sweatdrop I think it actually might supposed to go to the official language section 0o after I took a looksie there.
you can post im just asking for ideas/a better way to go about it/and well any help you can offer.
