The night was filled with cheerful sounds... well, not exactly. For a warm, spring, night there seemed to be less noise than usual... in fact it was fairly silent in the clearing. No crickets chirped, no birds fluttered in the trees, it was eerily silent. Okay, maybe she was over reacting a little bit, but she didn't like being able to hear every footstep, it made things... creepy. Vieno sighed, dragging her hooves through the mucky underfoot and looked to the sky, noticing there was very little to see up there above her. Strange, normally there were many stars and the moon was always a beautiful sight. For some reason, Vieno was slightly nervous that night, unable to control the urge to curl up and sleep somewhere. Just one problem about that... the mare wasn't tired.
Something wet touched her back and she jumped forward slightly, startled from being lost in her own world. After realizing it was only a bit of rain she shook her head, laughing at herself before continuing on her walk. Unlike some horses, Vieno didn't mind the rain, it always felt nice to have it falling from the sky, making everything around it greener. It was almost magical, and the mare always had time to dream about nearly magical things.
The smell of rain is so refreshing, the mare thought to herself as she continued on her journey. Then, as if her optimism about the night had been cursed, the rain started to pour out of the sky. How the weather had gone from light showers to pouring buckets from the sky, amused Vieno. Thunder boomed in the distance, and the mare decided it was time to head for cover. So, picking up speed, the mare galloped towards the forest, now very wet and quite ragged looking. She was muddy and her mane was sticking to parts of her neck in clumps. Safe to say she looked worse for wear, not that anyone was around to see! ...and would she have cared regardless?

Cerulean irises darted about the dark landscape as the young flutter stallion zipped through the starry skies, a bright grin adorning his ivory features. He hadn't been away from his father or his herd for some time now, and it felt good to be out and about. His nap in the sun had made him more energetic this night than on most others, although the stars didn't hold as much appeal as a bright field of flowers on a warm sunny day. Nonetheless, the cool breeze and moonlit sky wasn't an unwelcome sight.
A gentle wind ruffled through ebon' forelocks as the stallion lifted his head with a small grin, shifting upon the air current that carried him through the sky on his delicate wings. He didn't understand how his father was satisfied with a life on the ground, unable to grace the skies... although he supposed that he had little choice in the matter. He didn't share his mother's affinity for using his smaller form, although it was handy at times, when he wanted to sneak up on one of his sisters or surprise his father.
A cold drop of water landed on his muzzle, and he scowled as he eyed the glistening droplet before it soaked into his ivory fur. Rain... he hated the rain. The uncomfortable moisture would dampen his delicate wings, making it impossible to fly... he would have to take shelter soon. Scanning the ground below, one eyebrow rose as he caught sight of a blonde-ish petite form wandering the grassy fields. It appeared as though he had company... and the prospect was not at all unwelcome.
Giving a soft nicker as he swooped low to the ground, he smiled brightly in greeting to the pretty young mare. His landing wasn't as graceful as he would've liked- he stumbled a few steps after touching the ground- but he recovered enough to look dignified as his azure gaze rested upon the golden mare. "Hello there!"

Vieno sighed, taking in a deep breath before taking a look and viewing what was around her. Okay so maybe it wasn't the forest, it didn't seem dark enough and there were fewer trees than she thought she originally saw. Not that it really mattered, it was shelter because fewer drops of land were now landing on her drenched coat. It didn't really matter anymore, she was wet, unpleasant looking and... still in high spirits!
The mare had learned long ago that thinking about the good things instead of the bad often led to a better quality of life. So, instead of dwelling on the rain, Vieno thought about the grass turning green, new flowers blooming with the next sunshine and all the smaller animals that came out to play in the rain. She'd never actually seen any animals come out to play in the rain, other than frogs and maybe snails but she was certain they were out there!
Something sounded near her and her head snapped quickly toward the sound, startling the mare out of her thoughts. It seemed a stallion had appeared out of nowhere! ...and he'd greeted her too! Just, there was something a little different about this stallion... he had... wings? Vieno had never seen anything like it before, and the curious mare she was, she stared. After several long seconds, Vieno shook her head, knowing she was being incredibly rude!
"I'm terribly sorry! I uhm... hello!" she stumbled over her words a bit, like she wasn't able to get them out fast enough. Sighing, she looked down and away, letting her light mane cover her eyes and embarrassed face, "I didn't mean to stare, I apologize..." This world was so new to her, horses with wings? What was going to happen next?

An exasperated groan followed the sudden downpour that drenched the pale stallion, shaking his head as wet tendrils of wavy ebony forelocks framed his large face. He wouldn't be able to fly now until his wings dried off, although he supposed that there was nothing he could do about that- he would just have to wait until the rain stopped. This was only a reminder of why he hated weather like this, but he supposed that the prospect of good company could outweigh the unpleasantness.
Cerulean gaze followed her own to the wings on his back, looking what appeared to be confusedly at the butterfly appendages. Had she never seen a flutter before? He supposed it wasn't entirely common, seeing as how he was the only one in his small herd. He watched as she started and shook her head, offering a small reassuring grin as the delicate wings twitched, shaking what stray droplets he could from them as he inclined his head politely towards her and offering an idle shrug at the apology.
"It's no problem. I can understand... should I assume you haven't met any flutters before?" he tilted his head to one side curiously, offering his father's trademark lopsided grin. "My name's Kazuko, but everyone calls me Kazu. Who might you be?"

Vieno came from a small family of four, and the family itself had many dark secrets... in fact... Vieno hadn't seen anything in the outside world until she left them. She'd only recently gotten away so everything was new to her and she was determined to see it all. Only problem was, she was awfully rude when she did see it all! Jaws dropping, eyes bulging, they definitely weren't things you wanted to see when making new friends. Sadly, the poor mare couldn't help it, she'd never imagined there were horses with wings out there!
Shaking her head slowly, she silently told the stallion she'd never seen anything like him before. "No... I haven't actually! You're quite beautiful though..." Vieno whispered, meaning the breed more than him even though it was probably going to be looked at that way. "Oh, was that too bold?" she realized what she'd said and shrunk back some, shaking her head, flowing mane following it around. "I meant that... I... well, you are quite beautiful, or handsome if you'd prefer..." Vieno sighed, "I suppose it'd be worse to lie, huh?"
Flutters... that was what they were called? Horses with wings... what a strange thing to find. Well, less strange and more interesting... Vieno was quite amazed because with every passing day she learned things she'd never known before. Perhaps she was a little naive but she didn't worry about it... she'd eventually learn with time!
"My name? Oh, it's Vieno!" she giggled.

A slow blink of his cerulean hues followed the female's rushed statement, tilting his head curiously to one side as he observed her flustered demeanor. He supposed it was quite different, hearing that from someone besides his mother or father, although he never doubted it... it was still a compliment, right? The friendly grin upon his maw brightened a bit as he stepped forward and dipped his head briefly in gratitude.
"Thank you, miss. You're quite pretty yourself," he said in what he hoped was at least a semi-charming manner. He really had no idea how to go about these sorts of things, but his father knew even less, so he couldn't screw it up too badly, right? "I suppose I get it from my mother." Even though 'beautiful' was slightly un-masculine, he did think of his mother as such, so being compared to her wasn't completely bad.
The offering of her name made things slightly less awkward, and he dipped his head again in what he hoped was a more formal greeting. "It's nice to meet you, Vieno." The lopsided smile reasserted itself even as the rain plastered his wet, wavy ebon' forelocks against his face. He didn't mind the rain so much with pleasant company, it seemed... although he was sure it would be more enjoyable if both of them were dry. "What brings you out here in this dreary weather?"
