Like always, the speckled lion awoke with the first fingers of light as they brushed past the horizon and into the blushing purple sky. He blinked open his gentle amber eyes, for a moment lost as to where he was. He simply laid there, eyes cast upward at the sky. How beautiful. The rim of the sun was beginning to peek up into the sky, following the light that preceded it. There was hardly a cloud in the sky, and Djakovo could tell it would be a beautiful day.
Then slowly, his mind warmed up and started into motion. The first thing he was aware of was that he was not alone. For a moment his heart soared as he thought that it was his sister. But as he shifted his honey-eyed gaze from the heavens to the creature beside him, he realized with a sinking feeling that it was nowhere near as happy an ending as he had thought it would be.
Far worse. For he saw beside him the sleeping form of Jiona. The leopardess he had met... the night before, he told himself. Oh this could not be good. He felt an awful sense of foreboding and simple bad news washing over him as he tried to bring back memories of what had happened.
He remembered talking to her in the dark, by the river which was slowly gushing along beside him. Memories of the past, soft-spoken words on his part. And then after that was... more bad news. This was not good. He was bad news, that he was. He must be, for himself and for everyone else. So his first instinct was to pack up and leave.
But then another thought caught him. He was supposed to leave without telling her?

((I love the image you made. xD <33))
Jiona was fast asleep, a small smile on her maw. She had no inkling that Djakovo was feeling that way. What had happened was, to her, a natural part of life that she enjoyed a lot. Probably too many times in her life. She had had flings with many males, never resulting in children. She had always assumed if it was meant to be then it would happen, and so far it had not. But that was to change, unknown to the pair.
Amber eyes slowly opened to the spectacular sunrise and to Jiona it was a suitable fit to the night before. She had never before felt so... safe with someone. So protected.
Her gaze went from the sunet to the lion beside her, and she smiled up at him, purring, "Good morning." She said, stretching her long, sleek body out with a yawn. She had no idea until she looked at his expression that he was having some trouble processing what had happened, and that it hadn't been a good thing. "Something wrong?" She asked with a bit of concern in her voice.

((XDD))
He had been watching her for so long that he didn't quite realize she had awoken until she actually spoke. He blinked again. Oh right. "Morning," He returned almost monotonously. There were some things that he simply did without thinking about them, and when he did, they often came out toneless and quite obvious that it was a reflex.
"Yes. I mean, no. Uh..." He shook his head slightly. Ah what confused and mixed up feelings. He almost regretted having waited, for now he was struggling to find something to say. Perhaps it really would just have been easier to have crept off and not had to deal with what he found to be something that really shouldn't have happened, but probably what Jiona didn't consider so.
Still, had he gone off as he had first intended, he would have felt far more guilty, so he settled for having come this far. Nevertheless, he was hoping he might be able to escape this environment as soon as he could. Facing up to what he did had never been a strength of the dark lion's, so it was hardly a surprise that running away from this was his first instinct.

Dark eyes watched him unblinking. Jiona laughed softly, "Yes and no? What is it that's bothering you?" She had an idea; she hadn't taken him for a male that slept around, and she knew he was probably feeling bad about it. She, on the other hand, was glad that it had happened.
Jiona had always been a flirt and most of the time flirting lead somewhere else for her, if she liked the male enough. And she certainly did like Djakovo, more than she yet knew.
She waited for him to answer, her tail curling around her legs. It thumped the ground softly, and unconscious act she had always done when speaking with someone.

And then his mind was telling him one thing, and his conscience the other. If he were to choose between telling the truth and cushioning some feelings, most likely he would go with the latter, for a little white lie here or there was not nearly as bad as risking the hurting of another's feelings. There was a delicate balance between love and hate, one that Djakovo understood very well.
He was tempted to tell her what it was, but once he went over it in his mind as he always did, he realized that he would have to explain that it wasn't that he hadn't enjoyed the night and her company, but that the aftermath was what he didn't want to put up with. Often when he realized he would have to speak more for clarification, he simply decided to dump the thought, especially when he didn't find it completely important.
So he denied that anything was wrong. If he thought about it, nothing was wrong. Nothing had happened so far that was a bad omen. "Nothing, really," He said as convincingly as he could.

Jiona eyed him for a few moments, just watching his eyes. She then shrugged slightly and smiled a half-smile. "Alright, if you say so." She said, standing up. She stretched again, then padded over to the river they had slept by, lapping at the water.
She had an inkling that Djakovo may be worried about her getting pregnant, and she thought for a moment about telling him that she had done this many, many times before and never had babies. But she felt something she had never felt before about her flirtatious behavior; embarrassment. She was embarrassed to tell him that she had been with countless males, what if he thought less of her? What if he didn't respect her and just took off, never to be seen again? The idea of never seeing the silent lion again made Jiona's stomach ache. Another feeling she had never had before.
The copper leopardess decided not to tell him, and instead she turned towards him with a playful smile. She jumped into the river suddenly, sending a big wave in his direction.

Perhaps there was something they were both hiding, he mused, half trying to console himself that he wasn't telling her the whole truth. Though she probably suspected it. But something about Jiona made him feel as though he should be opening up more, and just letting things flow. Just to see where they might fall.
But then, he had only met her last night, and such feelings were, quite frankly, uncalled for. But all the same, she made him feel that way, and he was quite uncomfortable with the thought of imparting much more to anyone.
He watched as she padded to the river, and jumped in. The wave splashed toward the bank and plashed against his paws. He almost smiled, then, dabbling a paw into the water.

Jona grinned at him from the river, laughing out loud and trotting out quickly over to him. She shook herself off, shivering a little. "I didn't think it'd be that cold." She said with a smile.
Still dripping she sat down, gazing at him for a few moments. She wans't sure what to do now; normally after a night like they had shared she would be gone by this tme, not sticking around for pleasantries. But she really didn't know what to do with Djakovo, she had never before wanted to stay with someone for more than one night. She told herself she was just feeling lonely and wnated more company for a while, but she knew deep down that that wasn't the real reason.
Her eyes drifted away from him and she looked at the sky. She tried to find something to say, but her min kept drawing blanks. But she knew he wouldn't be the one to start a conversation. "Are you going to look for your sister?" She asked, looking over to him.

Djakovo nodded. He knew that it would be wise to start on his way again, cover more ground, look for his sister. But part of him nagged that he should be staying, although perhaps with the dark lion, it was more a feeling of duty than anything. He wasn't the type that had one night stands, obviously.
And yet seeing Jiona somehow made him feel as if he had messed up something big, and he didn't know why. He wanted to stay, he did, but mostly he just needed to get away and reconsider what had happened. Yet he knew that if he left now, he ran the risk of never seeing the dark leopardess again. And usually that was not a problem for Djakovo. He liked that he had no commitments, apart from to his sister, and he liked that he didn't have to worry. He never minded meeting new creatures and then leaving, knowing full well that the chance meeting was probably just the one meeting they would ever have.
But somehow with Jiona, he didn't really like that thought. She didn't try to pry, she didn't ask too many questions. He liked that, and he wasn't quite used to someone who seemed so perfectly willing to let things be, as if she had all the time in the world to find out everything about him.
"Should probably go do that..." He said after a moment.

Jiona felt her heart sink a bit, she had been half hoping that he would say he would rather stay with her and she didn't realize it until he spoke. She gave him a smile, though it was weak. She wans't sure what to say, but she stood and held back a sad sigh.
"Well, good luck with your search." She said, nodding a little, almost like a bow. She didn't want to leave, but it was what she always did. She wasn't good with emotions, and she was slightly afraid of what she felt for the dark lion.
She stood still, watching him with her dark eyes, almost wanting to tell him that she would gladly search for his sister with him. She wasn't sure if he even wanted so stay aound though and it made her hold her tongue. "Perhaps we'll... meet again, someday." She couldn't hide the sadness in her voice.

He could tell in that moment that there was every chance this could blossom into something grand, if only one of them could find the right words to say.
And perhaps he could, perhaps Djakovo had the right words in his mind and right at the tip of his tongue. But like so many times before, his resolve flagged and all of a sudden what he wanted to say sounded so pointless and childish. So rather than to say something that might destroy the peace of their meeting he held back and instead only nodded.
"Perhaps," He said in agreement, his honey gaze latching on to hers. He held it there for a moment, half frozen between moving, and not moving. And then the spell broke and he took a small step back. And then another, and then the dark lion half turned. And, casting another look behind him at the leopardess who he knew would forever be imprinted in his memory, he left.
