Small, puffy white clouds drifted through an otherwise idle sky. The sun shone on lazily, and the hum of machinery filled the air. Littered across the ground was a variety of metals, assembled or otherwise, creating an outcropping almost similar to rocky crags on a hillside. Twittering about, a small mass of red and army green had been fluttering from one outcropping to the next, a mess of clanging and the sound of metal scraping together forming her accompaniment.

Marien had been busy: Stealing from scrap piles here and there, she had accumulated a small fortune of materials from which to experiment. While they fit nicely into crates loaded in the group trailer (Which, Maxem never considered, might annoy the other trailer mates), once unloaded, she had a small metropolis of wreckage.

It wasn’t that she particularly got many things in working order. No, she was too sporadic for that. She would work on one thing for a short amount of time, and then move on to another, and yet another still. There were half assembled, rusty, outdated looking components everywhere. While one design become old, a new plan was implemented to replace it, though Maxem never had the heart to take apart her past children.

Sprawled among these children, the ginger sat, screwdriver in hand and goggles placed precariously where they shouldn’t be: around her neck. She fiddled with a small thing resembling an alarm clock mixed with a crock pot, lifting the contraption to see it another angle; maybe get another perception, a new idea.

The sun shone off of her copper hair and her eyes glittered as she played; this was her biggest joy. Her days off were always the best!

Lily found herself walking across the grass through the trailers. She was monumentally bored and finding almost nothing to get and keep her attentions... until she came up a distance from Maxem and her current project... that was intersting.

But therein was also a new problem. All Lily's life she'd worn long baggy sweaters and sweatshirts that covered her arms... but this morning she'd managed to convince herself that it would be better to wear something less warm, and more... revealing. So she was. She was wearing a t-shirt actaully and her arms were out there in the open for whoever to see. While this in itself wasn't exactly a bad thing... it was new...

So with a deep breath and her arms folded casually behind her she stepped into Mexem's range and looked over her pile of metals and such. "This is fascinating... If you don't mind me asking... what are you making?"

Maxem’s eyes stayed plaster on the silhouette of whatever it was against the sun. Her face contorted into a small frown before she answered. “Don’t know. It should be testing the timer, though…”

But, finally realizing her manners, the contraption was layed to rest and her attention had been focused to the girl. While Maxem wasn’t much for the eyes (Her hair in a sloppy bun, clothed in an old mechanic worksuit she had found in storage, and her face smudged with oil), she was nearly taken aback at how similar she and this woman looked.

While this girl seemed far more feminine (Maxem stared enviously at the long, flowing hair), she too was burdened with bright red hair, freckles, and an otherwise light complexion. Maxem’s own blue eyes were hidden behind goggles most the time, and her figure, while once shown off in it’s curvaceous glory, was now hidden behind more practical clothes. All in all, she had become far less of a woman.

And here was a girl that looked very similar in nature, but so much better by effort. To be honest, Maxem was a bit peeved and jealous. But she knew now not to be rude based on petty facts, and smiled regardless. “I’m Marien. Nice to meet you.”

The girl pulled herself up to her feet, behind sure to dust off both her knees and her bum before pulling off her thick leather gloves. Her hand looked pale, small, and clean compared to the rest of her body. Not noticing what lay behind Lily's back, Maxem offered her feminine hand in hello.

That was a small reminder to the woman that she was still female.

At the offering of a hand in greeting, Lily sighed inwardly pursed her lips and let her arms fall to her sides. She nodded and held her hand out in response to Maxem's but didn't take it... mostly not to creep the other woman out. All Lily really wanted here was someone to talk to, not to be creepy. "I'm Lily Robinson. I'm new to the circus." She laughed nervously. "I'm part of the 'Freak Show' in case you couldn't guess. But someday..." She shrugged. "I'm sure I'll figure out what I'm good at."

She let her eyes wander over all the mechanics scattering the ground. The mass of things really was amazing, and Lily found herself wondering what all of it was for, and where the heck it had come from... but first things first... introductions. She pried her eyes off the mechanics and returned them to Maxem with a genuine smile. She found herself admiring Maxem's goggles and general style. The woman's clothing was pracitcal and that's something Lily had always approved of.

Maxem’s eyes widened slightly at the site of the woman’s arms… And for a brief moment, she regretted removing her gloves. Still…. Creepy, gross, and morbid as it may be… She knew that she had to be a kind woman. She knew she shouldn’t offend more people than required.

“I work the pyrotechnics here, or at least I’m working on it.” After a sidelong glance to her toys, she pursed her lips in a small pout. “I’ve been mostly doing cleanup and repairs. Broken things need repairing and what not…”

Shrugging, Maxem took another quizical stare at the woman’s hands. They lacked flesh… But something about it intrigued her more than repelled. It almost looked like the framework, the way that ligaments connected the bones… She could see the working mechanics of the human hand without the boring flesh and muscles getting in the way. If it wouldn’t be considered completely rude, she would have liked to look at them more. Perhaps she could make something like an arm with enough research…

But shaking the creative thoughts out of her mind, she smiled once more. Her bum found it’s way to a pile of scrap metal as she surveyed her mess. “I’m guessing you’re new here, right? I think I’d remember another ginger if I saw one…” Her smile was young and immature, as if having similar features made them friends from the get go. “I guess I can’t be the only one in a place this big, though.”

Lily laughed nervously again and ran her finger bones through the hair above her temple quickly. Turning her eyes to Maxem's face and hair she chuckled again, smiling genuinely. "You've got much nicer hair than I have, no worries. I never do anything with mine." Her eyes widened suddenly. "Tell the truth, I'm not even sure that I brushed it this morning." She tucked the slightly frazzled mass back over her shoulder and pointed down at the items on the ground.

"Pyrotechnics.... like fire and stuff? Fireworks I mean?" it was completely fascinating. "That's fascinating." She grinned at the other woman. "That takes quite a bit of bravery to tackle that kind of thing I'd imagine. I mean... " She took a couple of steps over to get a better look at some of the metals. "I bet you've been burned a lot, or even just singed."

She gave Maxem a look of pure admiration. "I'm not afraid of getting burned, not on my arms of course..." She knocked the knuckles (litereally) of her left hand against the one of the bones in her right arm. "No feeling. But the thought of getting burned anywhere else gives me the heebie-jeebies."

Maxem smirked wildly, her face looking like that of an amused child. This was helping her ego to no end.

“Well, you gotta protect yourself! Gloves, sleeves, goggles; general safety equipment. “ She flopped her thick leather gloves against her hand, as if demonstrating just how tough they were. “I mean… Accidents happen, but if you’re prepared… No big deal.”

The woman flopped back to her spot on the ground, nudging at her boiler with her foot idly. Her mind was thinking over what she would need to do to get the darn thing to heat up without melting the metal… She needed something more heat resistant—But no, she had a guest, so it was no time to be tinkering. These piles seemed to others mysterious and vast piles of wonder, but Maxem knew the truth: most of the appliances didn’t even work. There was something she was missing. Something she was doing wrong.

“What amazes me are those arms of yours… They’re too thin to be a cover up… So that’s just… real. Looks strait out of an anatomy book.” Her hand ruffled through her bangs as she went for a pure, innocent look at the things. “I thought muscle was what moved the bones… But you seem to get along just fine. “

Her mind was trying to work out just what was at play with this woman’s arms… She was curious.

“Wait… If you can’t feel them… How do you move them?”

With an apologetic smile, Maxem patted a slightly rusted box beside her. She knew her questions were rude, but she was curious. In return… She’d answer as many questions that Lily had later, Maxem vowed.

Lily pursed her lips good naturedly and looked at her arms. She knew what they looked like and where all the knicks and bumps were and such... after all, she'd had these same arms all her life, and as long as the person asking the questions wasn't making fun of her then she had absolutely no problems answering questions. She turned her left arm over and looked at the underside, then she held it out so that her elbow was visible. She pointed at the skin that seemed to melt into bone.

"Here. This is where the feeling starts to come in. As far as I can tell there's no nerves or anything in the lower part of my arm, and that's because there's not skin or muscle there." She shrugged. "It's like Sam tried to explain to me once when I was little... it's the tendons and such that move arm bones, unlike the rest of the body." She pointed to the ligaments on her wrist that traveled down her fingerbones. "In all arms, even yours I 'spect, the muscles are so much further up the arm, and they pull on the tendons and those pull on the bones." She laughed and shrugged again. "They're all just that much further up in my arms."

Now she switched her attentions to her right arm and used her left hand to point to a dent in one of the longer ligaments. "When I was little, I fell out of a tree and broke my arm. The broken bone, here... it cut through the ligament and I couldn't move my arm at all until it healed." She laughed. "Would have been the worst time in the world for me if my brother hadn't fallen too and broken his arm at the same time." Then she looked up and took note of Maxem's interest... Held out her arms so that Maxem could look and touch them should the other redhead so desire.
