Vapor condensed into a light mist as a grey colored mare breathed heavily from galloping at top speed away from home. She watched both her breath form in the still chilly air. Though it was almost spring there were still days where the weather was ridiculously cold. But Sienna didn’t mind the cold. After all, she and her siblings were born in the winter. Her red eyes looked into the distance as she tried to hastily spot some sign of being tracked by her mother’s new familiar. Because the young filly didn’t really talk, Horo would always chase her down and act like such a hindrance. But, she did suppose that it was even more bothersome that she acted more or less like a mute.

Sighing to herself, the young filly turned and began to walk the other way. The grass beneath her hooves crunched as the last bits of frost broke beneath her. This is going to be a long day... Sienna thought to herself.

Vieno sighed, looking to the snow beneath her hooves as she ambled along, the dead feeling of winter upon her. The mare wasn't one to complain about the weather or even anything but she did miss the spring. Heat was often bothersome with her thick mane always making it hotter than it seemed. It was safe to say she preferred the in between seasons, autumn and spring, although she'd choose winter over summer any day. Upon deciding that letting the season get to her was so way to finish off the winter, her spirits picked up and her ears pricked forward... did she hear something in the distance?

The thought of company excited the mare, oh how she loved to be in the presence of others. Chatting or even having a warm soul to walk along side was one of her all-time favourite things. Vieno was new to this area but she'd decided long before she'd come that she wanted many friends to be able to rely on and give support to when needed. A horse wasn't quite a horse unless they knew and loved others in her opinion. Her deepest desire was to befriend those who were in need of a friend and to make her friendships last for eternity.

That in mind, Vieno shook her head slightly, moving some of her long mane out of her face so she could see ahead. Her excitement grew when she noticed what smelled like a filly up ahead. Was she going to meet somebody new today?

Sienna’s striped face suddenly turned around to look behind her as she thought she heard something streak through the grass like some unknown entity. Staring at the frosted grass, the filly raised one eyebrow and looked on confused as to what was going on. Please don’t be Horo, please don’t be Horo! She kept thinking to herself. Unknowing to Sienna, she was about to bump into the nearby mare as she accidentally continued to walk while looking behind her. Her ears perked up suddenly as she turned her head around in time to see a mare right in front of her. Slightly rearing up a little, Sienna bounded a few steps back to avoid the soquili in front of her, almost tripping up her feet in the process.

As things quieted down a bit, Sienna looked at the mare with her dark red eyes and simply bowed her head with a sheepish face in a gesture of "I'm Sorry". Gah! Oh can I be so clumsy!? The filly shouted to her self in her mind.

Vieno had noticed the filly didn't seem to think to watch where she was going when she started to back away from the femme advancing towards her. Apparantly she wasn't fast enough for before she knew what was happening the femme had backed into her. Chaos started and the filly was rearing at her, which caused Vieno's ears to flatten against her head while she quickly backed away, unsure of what she was supposed to do. Never before had someone bumped into her so she was confused and scared, unsure of how to behave. When she was finally a safe distance away, the mare calmed and her ears pricked forward, warm brown eyes taking in the sight.

After a more calculating gaze, Vieno realized that the filly had just been frightened and wasn't trying to cause any problems. After hearing the quick apology from the stranger, Vieno nickered softly and shook her head, amusement sparkling in her eyes. "No need to apologize, I'm sure we all walk backwards at times," she murmured softly, not meaning to insult the filly but instead create a light and less tense mood.

"Were you looking at something?" Vieno questioned, continuing on as she once again shook the hair out of her face. A pink ribbon with two feathers placed behind her right ear shook with the locks of hair. Nobody knew where the decoration had come from and Vieno often refused to talk about it.

The filly was still deeply embarrassed by her actions. Some daughter of a war horse she was… Her mother would have probably been ashamed of her and her inability to notice what was in clearly in front of her. Sheepishly, Sienna listened to what the mare had to say and noticed the unique mane ornament that she possessed but didn’t think about it for too long. At the mare’s latter question, the filly shrugged her stripped shoulders and lightly nodded in reply. Pretty much, the mare got the gist of what was going on.

The palimino mare nodded her head slowly, trying her best to understand the filly she'd just met. It seemed she was quiet, or perhaps she was too embarrassed to answer her question, Vieno didn't quite know her enough to understand. Instead of poking and prodding at the filly, Vieno looked to the sky, mane falling away from her face for that moment. Perhaps the other liked to sit in silence, it wasn't an awkward silence so she saw nothing wrong with it. Vieno decided when the filly was ready, she would speak and she wasn't going to ask her questions or bother her about it.

Smiling slightly, Vieno looked back down to the other and nodded once again, "I understand," she whispered in her soft, musical voice. She then proceeded to look the filly over... She was young, definitely, and very pretty! Vieno was often envious of other mares she met for she could always find the beauty in others but never herself. The mare didn't mind much that she was plain and average, she liked to continue her life as usual for vanity wasn't something she agreed with.

"Beautiful day..." Vieno continued, looking out past the filly. She'd woken up in an average mood and suddenly things had really brightened up.

Dark red eyes watched the mare as she observed not only the area around her but Sienna as well. The young filly wasn’t sure what to make of such a gesture. When she was young, she easily got annoyed and angry at the silliest things. Even today, she couldn’t quite let go of certain grudges that had built up even though it wasn’t really the other’s fault. It was a habit that she was trying to work on. She was going to get around fixing it… Eventually… Listening to the mare’s musical voice, Sienna sighed contently and nodded rather happily in agreement. Her eyes gazed up at the sky, noting the wonderful hue that came with winter.

The scenery put Vieno at ease, it was hard for many things to sneak up on you because the world was a blanket of white. Unless you were white yourself it was quite a task to blend in. Things like this made the mare enjoy and be thankful for the winter time. Sure, when you exhaled it made a cloud in the air and it was often cold enough to make the shaggiest of horses cold but it wasn't as miserable as some horses made it out to be. The snow sparkling when the sunlight hit it a certain way, the way it left tracks from rabbits, horses and bears alike. The winter was just cold... and perhaps misunderstood.

Grinning at the mare, Vieno had come to realize she didn't talk as much as a lot of the other beings she'd met. "I think I like the winter... I just wish the snow didn't clump in my hooves like it does!" she joked a bit, not wanting to make the mood tense or unfriendly. "I'm Vieno, incase you're curious," the mare nodded, letting the conversation drop there so the filly could choose to reply with her own name or let it drop at that.

A thoughtful and rare smile crossed over the filly’s face as she looked at the mare as a reply of sorts to her thoughts on the snow and hooves. Vieno… That’s a nice name, Sienna thought. The filly opened her mouth slightly buy hesitated for a moment. An awkward expression crossed over her face and she started to panic a little bit. How was she going to respond?!

“Her name’s Sienna!” A playful, but well meaning voice rang out from the grass. Red eyes glimmered as a quiet cackle of sorts escaped a brown and white colored wolf who watched the gray filly jump a bit because she was startled. The wolf calmly walked from the grass and looked at the two soquili with a funny smile. “And I’m Horo the Wise at your service Ms. Vieno.” She bowed her head to the palomino mare. “Sorry I startled you,” Horo replied cheekily.

Vieno too smiled when the filly smiled at her, she liked when others appeared to be happy. Even with the few words the filly managed, the mare had decided she liked the younger horse and this fact kept a smile upon her face. All horses and beings alike had different personalities and Vieno accepted this fact, she'd learned long ago that forcing one to do something they didn't want to often ended in tragedy. This thought in mind made the mare almost start another 'conversation' before she was startled by a wolf.

A bit skittish, the mare jumped back and peered at the wolf, eyes questioning if this wolf had bad intentions. It seemed he was friendly enough, and he didn't appear all too threatening, not to mention he seemed to know the mare she'd been with. Settling down, she listened to the wolf and nodded, long mane falling to cover her eyes as she did so.

"It's quite alright," she quietly responded. "If we're lucky I'll startle you in return someday," she chuckled. "Sienna and Horo... what beautiful names, and it seems you know each other as well!" Vieno replied in good spirits and swished her tail. She'd met two new acquaintances in a day, it was going to be interesting indeed.

“Oh ho ho…” The she wolf chuckled to herself. Amara’s child always met some interesting characters. “I look forward to the day when you’ll startle me Vieno.” Horo, despite her rather eerie looking eyes, smiled pleasantly at the older mare. “Well, we know each other to a certain extent, although Sei is still trying to get used to me. You see, I’m her mother’s companion and since Sei here doesn’t exactly talk, I end up having to deal with baby sitting and translating duties.”

Sienna grumbled and pouted a bit as the she wolf chattered away quite happily. The filly flattened her ears and stared at the wolf for a long time, as if she were trying to engage the other in a staring contest. She didn’t exactly mind the nickname Sei that her mother had given her but the wolf… well the wolf was a bit too cheeky for her own liking… and the fact that this wolf understood their language so well was also rather odd.

Realizing the air of competition was upon her, Horo suddenly turned to Sienna and looked at the filly with eyes, determined not to lose this little battle that they were having. Silence passed by for a few seconds until finally both wolf and filly blinked at the same time. “Phew! Man… I was SO close to winning!” Horo pouted playfully.

Vieno wasn't quite so sure she was good at reading others but she felt something between these two. The filly had seemed almost happy and joyful moments ago but now things were different. The wolf was indeed a different sort of character but it didn't bother Vieno, perhaps this was because she'd even try to befriend a Skin Walker. Smart? Maybe not, but Vieno didn't mind that they appeared to be sickening and evil, they had to have some kind of heart deep down, right? Or maybe it just didn't occur to her that a horse could have a heart as black as a night without the moon.

The staring contest was awkward to witness, in fact when it began, Vieno stepped back slightly, swishing her tail gently as to not intrude. The filly, Sienna, seemed to dislike the wolf more than he seemed to realize. It wasn't her place to say that so she kept her mouth shut, continuing to stare instead of mentioning what she thought. Her silence made her wonder about the filly, for she had such a wonderful voice, for what reason did she hide it? The palomino mare sighed, she would have loved to find out but pressing an issue wasn't a great way to make friends.

"How do you know what she'd like to say?" Vieno questioned innocently, not meaning to prod at the wolf. Something told her the wolf wasn't as great a translator as he seemed to think he was. Maybe she was over stepping the boundaries and that was a question better left unasked. Well, it was too late now, the damage was done... well, if there was any.

Eerie red eyes gazed over at the elegant mare as the she wolf simply smiled and shrugged. “Well, even though I don’t know Sei all that much, you start to understand her language after a while. She makes obvious gestures when she’s trying to convey something. Like bowing her head down when she’s either sheepish or sorry.” Horo paused for a moment in thought, thinking about something else. “Of course, despite the years that I’ve lived, I don’t know everything… but, more or less, I do know Sienna at least!”

Sienna rolled her dark red eyes in reply to the she wolf. Ugh. Horo can be some annoying at times! She thought to herself. The two were very much like siblings, though neither would admit such a thing. Carefully walking up to the wolf, the filly lowered her head to n** at the wolf’s ear to keep the Horo in check but she did it with a light, playful manner. Turning to look at Vieno again, Sienna smiled at the mare and pointed her head towards the sky again. Dark red eyes watched wispy clouds slowly moved toward the west where the winds carried them.

The wolf sure did talk a lot, maybe that's why he tagged along with the silent filly, the two put together seemed about average talkers. When looking at them on their lonesome... that was different. Nodding her head slowly, Vieno listened to the wolf speak, it seemed he knew a bit more than she'd originally thought. "I suppose she's lucky for having someone that cares and knows so much about her!" Vieno nodded, mane falling out of her face to reveal happy, sparkling brown eyes.

As the filly leaned down to n** at the wolf's ears, Vieno looked to the sky, smile fading off of her features. It was obvious she was thinking about something but nobody really knew what. After a few moments, she let her gaze fall back on the two, smile reappearing.

“Yes, yes,” the wolf replied playfully. “Sei should be grateful for being accompanied by such a wonderful wolf with such a fine tail!” Horo grinned at the mare but took note that one of Sienna’s ears flattened a bit onto her head in a disapproving manner. With a laugh and chuckle, the she wolf let up her ranting. “All right, all right. I joke, I joke!” Horo smirked with an easy going face and decided to look up into the sky along with Sienna and the mare. The sky was certainly wonderful here… but it was very beautiful up in the North as well… The she wolf desired to return to her home in the North, but due to a promise that she made with Sei’s mother, that would have to wait a bit. After all, she was not one to go back on a promise.
