Dante shivered as he woke up for the day, and his body stretched itself in a lazy manner. It was hard to want to do things when it was so cold outside, and he was slowly realizing that as the winter season moved on. There was talk of spring in the future.. but where was it? Was it just a myth? The days felt colder and colder.. and it was kind of depressing!

Dante had heard that the spring would arrive in a series of rain storms, but when that would happen, Dante had no idea! He had so much to worry about at the moment, and his family life became more complicated by the second. Why did everything always have to pile up when the weather was at its worst? Maybe Dante had terrible luck, or maybe that was how it was meant to be?

With a sigh, he moved himself forward in a lazy stride, while eying the surround snow with an angry grunt. If he had it his way, the snow would melt, and the flowers would start to bloom. Everything was more comfortable when it was warm outside, and Dante was praying for that kind of weather arrangement! At the moment though, he would take what he had, and find a comfortable area to lounge in.

The snow was nice, Vieno loved to look to the sky and watch the little flakes fall, often landing on her nose where she could then watch them melt. Of course the weather was a little colder than she normally enjoyed but that was no reason to not enjoy everything around her. Her hooves pressed against the soft snow beneath them, dragging the feathery fur behind her, getting snow caught in the silky, smooth, feathering. Vieno had realized her feet always felt quite a bit heavier in the winter time, at least until the snow melted off of them but she didn't let it bother her. It didn't stop her from letting her feet fly beneath her while she danced across the snowy surface and took flight, racing towards the horizon. No, nothing could keep her from running.

Flowing mane, covering bits of her face as she walked, Vieno peeked through the stray hairs as she wandered through the area. It looked quite lonesome, silent, but peaceful, no... even solitary silence didn't have to be a bad thing. Everyone was always wanting time alone, so taking advantage of such times was no hard task. Not that Vieno would have minded company, she enjoyed other Soquili of all shapes and sizes, even the indians around the village and the stray animals she encountered while wandering. No, Vieno was definitely a horse that liked to socialize, she thrived on contact with others.

That thought in mind, she continued her journey, tail swishing behind her gently as she wandered. Who knew, perhaps the day would end with an adventure she'd not quite happened upon yet. Nobody could really tell what was in store for them that day.

Dante could have sworn that he saw a color in the distance, and his eyes blinked for a moment as he adjusted them against the white snow. Was there someone else around him? Or was he only seeing things? With a crinkle of his nose, he pulled his ears back and continued forward, while also keeping his eyes steady on the landscape. It was completely quiet at the moment, so how could anyone else be around?

While the stallion was doubting himself, his eyes finally focused on the brown female in the distance, and it appeared that by each step of his, she was coming closer to where he was lingering. Hm. The female did not look familiar, and that was intriguing enough! She wasn't frowning or scowling either, so that meant that must have been nice as well! Dante was a bit worried, since he tended to be shy at first glance. But nonetheless, he continued strutting forward, until finally approaching the cheerful mare.

"Good day to you!" he then said, while lifting his head in a polite gesture. It might have appeared that he was very confident, but Dante was only trying to look friendly, since sometimes it was hard for others to tell. Even he confused himself sometimes! "It seems you are surviving against the snow that the sky keeps placing beneath us.." His voice was calm, and his eyes watched her with their usual curiosity. Hopefully she wasn't bothered that he approached her.. he hated stopping others from their daily tasks!

The mare seemed to be lost in her own world, stepping as silent as possible even though the snow crunched beneath her hard hooves. The sound wasn't the only one that was heard, what had been silence moments before was replaced by the crunching of another's hooves. A heavier something's hooves. Ears flickering forward, Vieno gazed out in front of her, peeking through locks of hair before she noticed a stallion right in front of her. Blinking, she had to wonder how the horse had snuck up on her so easily, had she been that lost in her own world?

When the two were close, Vieno halted and stared at the stranger. He was larger than her, which wasn't saying much because most stallions were, and had long silky locks that reached his hooves. It was interesting to see a stallion with hair that was even longer than hers but the spikes growing out of his back were intimidating. Sadly, it was rude to stare, and even ruder still to judge one by their appearance. Instead of continuing to stare at the other, Vieno raised her head, eyes brightening at the polite voice before she spoke.

"Good day to you as well!" the mare exclaimed, a smile upon her lips as she greeted the stallion, "The snow's not all that bad... it melts eventually." Vieno knew she much preferred the spring but winter did have its perks, with spring came flies and they were annoying little pests. The thought of insects made Vieno flick her tail as if to swat them off and then spoke her thoughts aloud, "The winter sure keeps the bugs away, huh?"

His guesses were right on, and the mare was completely nice! Her voice was calm and peaceful, and her expression was just as pleasing. "Winter tends to drag on for me." he then said, with a light laugh. "I miss the sunlight, and the lazy warmer days. Maybe I am an idealist, but. The bugs sure distract my day dreaming in the summer, so I suppose you are right!" He continued to hold a grin while watching the mare's eyes in a happy stare. Hopefully the conversation would remain this pleasant! "So what is your name, if I may ask?"

She didn't appear to be in a hurry, and that was a relief. Dante tended to worry too much, so he tried to appear as relaxed as he could. "I suppose I should introduce myself, my name is Dante." With a light bow of his head, he slowly lifted it up, while shaking a bit of snow off of his mane. Darn snow.. it was always getting stuck in his fur! "Are you not a fan of bugs in general? There are some that don't bother me.. but then there are others that are just dreadful."

He pondered for a moment, thinking about which bug was his favorite. "I think I like fireflies the best, since they make summer nights that much more exciting. I tend to stay up later for some reason, so the nights don't seem as lonely." He suddenly wondered if his words were strange or too personal or something, and he swallowed a worried gulp in his throat! Hopefully she wouldn't mistake his cheerfulness with a sing of weirdness!

Daydreaming, that was something Vieno was definitely caught doing a lot. She'd be standing on a hill, staring off into space until something startled her, nope, no surprise there. She could relate to this stallion and that was good, opposite opinions often didn't attract friends as well as she'd like. Bugs, did she like those? She definitely didn't like mosquitoes or black flies, or anything that bit her really, butterflies were beautiful but she didn't like them near her. No, she was not a bug horse. His question about bugs had distracted her, pulling her off into her own little world so she quickly snapped back, trying to remember what they'd been discussing beforehand.

Ah, yes, introductions, boy she was rude today. "My name's Vieno, it's a pleasure to meet you, Dante!" she exclaimed with a soft voice, "Oh... I love to daydream too. There's no point in reaching your goals if you can't dream up new ones, right?" Bugs, should she admit she didn't like them? Well, it wasn't nice to lie! "I don't really like bugs... any bugs. Creepy crawlers are just a little too creepy for me... well, when they're close! Butterflies are nice at a distance and you're right, fireflies are pretty too! ..well, as long as they don't rest on me," she giggled.

She seemed to disregard anything he might have considered personal, everything to her was just light conversation. Vieno liked to please others, in fact mostly everybody was placed before herself. Some called her too kind, some called her foolish and others just accepted it but Vieno herself barely even realized. "I love summer nights, there's so much noise but it's peaceful at the same time! Not only that but the heat isn't my best friend," she smiled, unsure if this stallion was a fan of hotter weather.

Vieno.. that was an interesting name, and it fit the mare well. He listened quietly as she spoke about her likes, and he grinned when she got to the part about bugs. "No, I can understand that about bugs. When they don't bother me, I like them too." He wasn't someone who chased bugs or anything, since he sometimes found foals being enamored by that sort of thing. "My sister likes bugs, maybe its because they are quiet like her? Ah well, its something I never really understand myself." he then added, with a light chuckle. Meera tended to find small pleasures in the strangest of things.

"Do you have any family?" he then asked her, with a curious grin. "I can never tell, I guess some individuals are just good at guessing those facts?" Well, either way, it was probably rude to blatantly guess anyways! He then thought for a moment about her other statement, wondering more about summer nights to himself. "I look forward to summer nights as well, since they are a nice break from the substantial heat of the day. That's probably why I stay up so late in the summertime, there is no reason to wake up early for the day just to be hot!" He seemed to have his own flow in the summertime, and if it worked for him, he knew that was a good thing!

With a light brush of his mane, he shuffled his feet before facing the female once again. "Would you be interested in walking and talking?" he then asked, with a light blush of his skin. "I get so cold standing in one place, that maybe if we walked we could be sustain a nice amount of heat?" He perked his expression up, hoping that she would agree on the idea? "If not though, I completely understand! I don't want to do anything that isn't comfortable for you." Since.. to Dante, everyone was a guest!

Well, this stallion certainly had no problems with expressing himself, she chuckled to herself silently at that. She liked that he didn't mind sharing what he enjoyed and disliked, open horses were always the easiest to get along with. At the mention of family, Vieno hung her head slightly, looking off into the distance, behind Dante. Something deep down ached but she refused to let it do anything but that. Instead, she raised her head, smile on her face, mane falling over her eyes to hide the sudden distant look and nodded. "Everyone's different, so of course everyone is going to like different things," she agreed, "She can keep the bugs company for me, because I'm sure they need friends as well."

She skipped over the family comment, not meaning to be rude intentionally but rather to avoid a conversation she didn't want to bring up. Pawing at the snow slightly, she moved a bit out from underneath her hoof while he continued to speak. Palomino colored ears pricked forward as he mentioned the summertime again and soon the mare was back to her usual self. Sighing happily, she looked from the snow to Dante and then back again and nodded, "Summer nights are the best to go for a run in... I love to splash in the shallow water of the lake in the dark as well," Vieno chuckled knowing the water was far too cold to play in during most of the springtime. That said, she continued with her soft flowing vocals, "I agree, why play in the undesirable heat when you can wait until the night?"

Talk of walking made her smile yet again, Vieno was one who was normally on the go so walking didn't bother her at all. Truth be told the cold didn't bother her much either, due to her thick coat and heavy mane. Either way, she didn't mind walking and talking, what could be bad with something that rhymed? "Sure!" she exclaimed and nudged him playfully before trotting forward and looking back. "I don't mind, my hooves are normally never in one spot for long, regardless," the mare chuckled, her brown eyes sparkling in happiness.

Vieno's change of subject was shocking to Dante, and was unsure if he should just play along and let it slide, or if he should ask more on the subject. Some mares used such a tactic so that someone would ask more into the subject, whereas some mares were truthful on the entire scenario, while not wanting to talk at all. So what did Vieno want? Dante decided to go with the safest option, since at the moment, they were now walking peacefully. Vieno was pleasant anyways, and it wasn't like she was trying to hint at anything like most did.

"Even though I hide from the hottest of days, the beach is completely enjoyable as well." he then added, while remembering many childhood memories at the beach. "Apparently there are creatures that live in the water there, but I still haven't seen them yet." That would be something interesting to look for this summer, and Dante pondered that sort of adventure...

"There are a lot of creatures in this land that I have yet to see." Dante then added, while glancing at the mare kindly. "Maybe they all disappear in the wintertime, and we will be able to see them again this summer." Heh, it was a goofy thought, but sometimes Dante truly wondered if some creatures disappeared when it was cold outside. "What about you? Have you ever seen some of the crazy individuals that lie in this land?" Hopefully she had never had a run in with any of the dangerous ones like his father.. and he hoped for her sake that that was true!

He had to comment on one last bit that the mare made, and he grinned while on the subject. "I am sure all of this running you do makes you darn fast." he then added, while glancing back ahead. "Its such a pain to run in the wintertime, and it is probably safer to in the summertime. All of this ice makes for a terrible time.." Since falling was always a pain, especially when one was racing!
PostPosted: Sun Feb 24, 2008 1:26 pm

While they walked, Vieno looked ahead, no longer bothered by the talk of family. She was now focused on the task at hand, which just happened to be... walking and talking, at the same time! The stallion's company was definitely enjoyable, coming to this land and making new friends hadn't been quite as hard as she originally thought it would be. Perhaps change and new territory didn't have to be a bad experience, there were pleasant qualities in everything, were there not? Even if there weren't, complaining wasn't going to fix anything.

"Creatures? In the water?" Vieno gasped and looked towards Dante, everything was so new to her she'd never imagined there were things in the water other than fish. "Do you suppose they're a bad sort of creature? Or more playful and fun?" The mare was curious now, she wanted to know just what lay beneath the depths! Her mind was swimming with ideas now, what if there were giant fish or animals she'd never heard of with gills. How exciting was that? Very, it was very exciting.

"The winter's often quiet," Vieno agreed as she slowed a bit, ears flickering as she listened to their footsteps crunch in the snow, "but isn't that the beauty of it? Everyone's always complaining there's too much noise but in the winter... it's just peaceful silence. Although, I have to admit it can get a little scary when you're on your own!" She giggled at the last bit, the poor mare was afraid of her own shadow at times. At the last bit, she shook her head accordingly, "Nope! I'm pretty new here and haven't really met... well, anybody! ..but if you're anything like the other individuals I have yet to meet, I can't wait!" She'd complimented him because to her, kindness was what kept horses going, everybody... even the blackest of hearts needed a little kindness to warm their souls.

"I'm not all that fast..." Vieno admitted sadly, "..but I do love to run! Who says racing has to be just a sport?" She'd thought every horse loved to run, it sure seemed to be so when she watched others galloping across the clearing. The thought made her smile more, and she then turned back to Dante before looking down at the snow and ice, "I agree, you have to be careful when running on something slippery... might not end well if you fell..."

"Oh yes, they live and dwell in the water." Dante then nodded his head slowly, before proceeding on with his words. "There are Kelpis, and Mers. Kelpis tend to be on the ruder side, and I have heard that they are actually quite evil. Mers are the opposite though, and they are apparently really nice and kind, and easy to get along with! Its sort of funny that the two breeds are completely different, and that makes me sort of curious to look for them when it gets warmer outside." He shook his head with a smile before shuffling his feet again. There were so many breeds in the land, and Dante wanted to find them all at some point. It would probably take awhile though...

He was then drawn back into the mare's words again, since they were very kind and positive once again. Vieno was always so cheerful when she answered anything Dante asked her, and it was refreshing for him to meet someone so happy! Lately everyone seemed down from the weather, but Vieno just couldn't be that way! How lucky was she?

As he continued walking next to her, he lowered his eyes at the icy ground, before grunting to himself in a noticeable manner. "I see colts and fillys sliding down the ice all day long, falling and laughing while making silly mistakes. I don't see how they can do it, kids are seriously stronger then we all think." Or maybe Dante was just weak? The stallion was now sort of worrisome, but in a humorous manner of course. "I can already tell that you will make lots of friends in this land, you are open and happy to be yourself. Others will most likely enjoy that about you." Maybe Dante could watch what Vieno did, so that he could learn to be more confident and open with himself..

He constantly told himself that he would learn from each conversation he had, and Dante was always sure to keep his mind open to the ways that other Soquili acted and reacted. Sometimes, he didn't feel as different as he thought! And that was also very refreshing.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:48 pm

"Mers and Kelpies?" Vieno questioned, tilting her head at the stallion. She'd never heard such terms in her life and didn't know what to expect. "I'd love to see them too! Animals that live in the water that aren't fish... that's so exciting! I'd love to go look for them with you, y'know... if that's okay and all... I can't imagine an evil water mammal!" The mare was excited now, it was easy to tell by the glee-filled tone of voice she used. Vieno knew so little about the new world she lived in, she couldn't even begin to imagine the wonders and hardships she might happen upon. She figured she'd just have to wait to find out.

"Well, you know what they say! The bigger the horse, the harder the fall. I'm sure colts and fillies don't have to worry about ice so much," Vieno admitted while pondering what he said. "Hmm... I think part of growing up is realizing you're not invincible," Vieno chuckled, "But who really wants to grow up?" His next comment made her smile in silence for a moment, was she really that open when she hid all the pains of her past? To her it seemed useless to burden others with problems that no longer existed, sadly they still ate at her inside. Trying to keep the conversation light, the mare nodded happily, "I'm glad you think so, I do hope you're right though... Do you have a lot of friends? You seem like the type!"

It was strange how easily she'd made friends with this stallion... without embarrassment or confusion, it just sort of flowed. She was glad the first horse she'd met in this new area was one as nice as he, it definitely gave her a positive outlook on everything that was to come in the future. There was much to be glad for, Vieno realized, and she used these things to cover up the bad. There was no reason to dwell on the suffering of oneself when you had so many other things to be grateful for. The mare was just happy she'd realized this, because she hadn't always been quite so happy.

Change was often for the better, and Vieno would have supported this comment had she ever been asked. It mattered not, for Vieno no longer socialized with the horses of her past. Nobody knew and it was for the best, for had they known the mare a year ago... things may have been quite different.

Dante was once again surprised by Vieno's enthusiasm, and he shrugged lightly before pondering an idea. "Well, even though it is still cold outside, we can go to the sea's edge to go look for sea creatures now? I know how to get there actually, and its not far at all. That is, if you aren't doing anything right now.." he paused, realizing he didn't even consider if she was busy! How rude of him! But, he was hoping that maybe it would be a nice activity to do together? He hoped that asking would not be too bothersome.. goodness he was worrisome, wasn't he?

His mind trailed back suddenly, and he chuckled at the thought of his brother falling on ice as a foal. Although his growing up experience was much different from what the mare said, he smiled nonetheless, and agreed that such was true from watching other families and stuff. Kids tended to life care freely these days, and that was always a good environment to grow up in. "Heh, that is a good point. I didn't really understand the whole process of growing up until it happened. I was so confused to be bigger, and it seemed like reality woke me up as well. What about you? Are you sad to be grown up?" He sort of wondered what Vieno meant by that, and he watched her silently while moving the hair out of his face.

Dante was sort of glad to get the growing up thing out of the way, since it was just another obstacle to face in life. He liked getting the complicated over with so that he wouldn't have to worry about any pains or decisions that could come with forced change.

(( I can actually bring my Kelpi in if you are interested, he is an a** but it might be interesting XDD ))
PostPosted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 9:11 pm

The mare's eyes were bright, interested and happy, of course she wanted to go look for the creatures! What a fun adventure it would be, even if they didn't get to see anything in the end. "Oh, I'd love to!" the mare exclaimed with joy, "I love learning everything about this new area and I'm always up for a new adventure!" His comment made her tilt her head and grin at him, hadn't he asked her if she was too busy just moments ago? "Of course I'm not busy, Silly! I'm just having a wonderful time going for a stroll with you," she exclaimed. Of course this was the truth, it wasn't like she knew any body or had some place she had to be... everything was new and exciting for her.

Her expression changed slightly when the stallion mentioned growing up... had she really wanted to? She missed certain things about her childhood but for the most part she was glad to be grown and on her own. Her eyes darkened some as she thought about other parts of her childhood... Now that she thought about it, it really was good to be grown up. Shaking the expression off her face, she listened to the stallion explain his childhood, not wanting to comment very much. Vieno was silent for a moment until she realized he had asked her a question, a bit surprised she shook her head, "Oh, no, I'm glad to be grown up. I just meant that the kids get to have lots of fun! I do agree though, the process of growing up is a rough one, so I'm glad it's over as well." Her voice was different now, it was more stressful sounding and less happy... but she hoped her new friend wouldn't catch it.

Family, it'd been a word she'd been indecisive about ever since she was just a filly. Was family the horses you were supposed to rely on? Were they the meaningful beings in your life? Vieno wasn't sure what to think about her own family, but she agreed that some were picture perfect. Thinking about her past often got her down so she shook her head and forced a smile, "Should we go look for those creatures then?" She hoped that the adventure would cheer her up and make her forget about the things her mind wanted to make her remember.

(( Sure, sounds like loads of fun! ))

"Ah well, if you say so!" he then said, while blushing to himself. He was such a loser.. but apparently Vieno wanted to stay and chat anyways? He was thankful for her company, and he was glad she also wanted to explore a bit with him! "Alright, if we keep heading this way we should be there in a few minutes." A change of scenery was always a nice alternative, and he was excited to give her that.

Dante crinkled his nose as Vieno continued speaking about her past, and he suspected something much deeper than what she was saying. "Its ok you know, if you want to vent about anything. I actually love to listen, I am terrible at talking so I prefer letting others rant." He shrugged as he looked forward, and kept his eyes off the mare, since he knew it was hard to get past a distant memory or thought that could plague the mind. "Its up to you, I am just letting you know I don't mind." Plus, he could probably relate with her, since he had a load of conflicts himself! "Heh, I am leading us there ya know! I promise we will be there sooner then you think." he then added, with a compassionate smile. She sounded upset.. and he didn't want that for her!

Bubbles bounced around a shallow trail, and the water's edge was soon disrupted with a bright array of colors. It had been awhile since Kuval had been in the ocean, ponds and lakes were all frozen at this time of year, and it seriously pissed him off. He hated salt water, it tasted disgusting, and it made him gag when he swallowed too much. BUT, he needed the stupid water, since the snow wasn't doing much for his taste...

"What a terrible looking day." he then said, as his head rested about the water's touch. He looked sharkish, and he was observing the land with a usual scowl. The land looked so nasty, everything was either slushy and gray, or brown and dead. If under the water ever looked as terrible as land did, Kuval would have given up on life years ago!
