She emerged from the forest with a bright grin, fully grown into a beautiful, young adult mare. Icefall found herself impressed with the spring, though the air was still so very much chilly. She breathed in the sharp, fresh air happily and began her first march out into the world on her own. She had been kept to the herd she was staying with in order to survive as she couldn't live with either her mother or father, but she also considered herself very lucky to begin with anyway.
"Today is going to be a great day!" she told herself, and quickly made her way over to a patch of grass just peeking out of the still snow-blanketed earth. She bent down to nibble at it; it was her first taste of grass, and boy, did it taste good. Humming to herself cheerfully, she glanced around trying to figure out if there was anything she could do. Being by herself was turning out to be less fun than she thought... she sighed. She kind of missed her foal-hood days; at least then she'd been able to make one or two friends. She missed playing with them.
"What can Icey do today?" she still had a bad habit of speaking third person. No one had ever been able to stop her from speaking third person, and Icefall had slowly suffered (well, did she really suffer? No one was quite sure; she was quite bubbly for a 3rd person speaking mare) and so now that she was fully grown, she still spoke that way. Unbeknownst to the herd mates who worried over Icefall, she was about to meet someone who would be very determined... someone they could all count on, even though none of them probably knew him...

Years of rain and sunlight had marked him, a life of running around with no home and no real herd had corrupted his sense, a winter of snow that bogged down his large fluffy hooves and caked them with mud had fired up his temper.
Winter had been a bad time for him, making Isele dream of the island he'd been born on, the place he'd grown to his adolesence in an had known the first pain of his loss. That place seemd to be so very far away and yet so close at the same time. Close for it pained his heart still to think of it, far for it's true distance in the south. A now uninhabited island, only home to birds and other small creatures that made no consequence to him.
However the time of year gave him the opporortunity to deal with some of the current issues with his life. He felt lonely for starters. It had been two years since he'd had his live rent in two and had to find a way to live in a new life. Isele was still trying to come to grips with that eve now. The other problem and his largest one by far was that it was the time of year that a stallion went to find females. It was the time of year best for foals to be born and the idea made him shake his head.
Once upon a time he would have had a female for himself, that time ended when the female was killed.
Now he was all by himself.
What was he gonna do now?

Being the clumsy and silly mare that she was, Icefall didn't watch where she was literally running into as she suddenly smashed head-on with a... furry tree? Blinking dizzily, vision slightly blurred, for a minute she thought she saw a tree that was black with orange stripes, which would have been interesting had it actually been a tree... but... she digressed. Vision clearing, she automatically noted that it had been a fellow Soquili she had tackled by pure accident, and immediately fumbled into a series of apologies. "Ah...! I... Icefall sorry! Icefall wasn't watching where she was going--she ran into you, sorry, sorry!" she apologized over and over, half wondering if she'd be punished harshly.
From the mood and tension in the air, she somewhat cringed. "Icefall is truly sorry," she apologized again. "She was not watching where she was going, so she ran into you! Icefall sorry!" she continued, half-hoping the stallion--she just now noticed it was a stallion--would just get annoyed with her and brush her off and tell her to forget about it, since in a way he seemed to be in a depressed, sad... wait. Depressed? Sad? Not angry? ...Or maybe she was reading this atmosphere wrong... "Is... Are you okay? You seem sad... maybe Icefall can help?" she finally inquired after a momentary lapse of silence from her last apology. "...You... Ah!" she paused as she realized something. "Ah! She didn't introduce herself... Icefall's name is Icefall! It's nice to meet you!" she continued brightly, relentlessly ignoring the depressing aura.
"What's your name?" she finished, this time truly curious. "You're interesting! You're the first stallion Icefall knows besides family!" Maybe if she just talked cheerfully he would forget about what he was worrying about and just focus on her annoying self--not that she thought she was annoying, but she knew that this kind of thing she did irritated her family a lot--but she also helped, she thought, to take worries off others' minds by doing this. "And... wow! You have a... a..." she frowned, trying to come up with the right word... "Stick! In your head!" she said triumphantly, "horn" absolutely escaping her mind. "And you... look funny too! Black with orange stripes... it's funny and weird but cool and weird and funny but awesome." Icefall should have probably tried to stop blabbering at this point, but now she was just plain getting nervous...

If he'd been a rational kind of guy, Isele would have just allowed himself a breif moment of realization into the fact that a female was barreling at him... and he wouldn't have been run into. In fact if he had even known what was around him then the large stallion would recognize that he was in a bad position.
But no. Instead something SMASHED into him going full tilt and nearly knocked the unicorn from his bright orange hooves and to the ground. Only a sheer force of muscle and will kept the large unicorn on his hooves against the force of the other's running. Both of his lime colored eyes turned and burned into the rosey colored ones of the mare that had nearly thrown him for all his troubles of thoughts.
That would teach him to get lost in thought anywhere around here again. If there were mares that nearly killed stallions out here then maybe he should never 'think' again.
Wait? What was it she was doing NOW? Was that babbling? And was she talking in the third person?
Both of his eyes closed, irritation slowly working it's insidious way onto Isele's face as he listened to her babbling with both of his ears down at the sides of his head. He'd thought he was rather sane before this moment. Thought that he could deal with just about anything that the world could dish out at him... this was NOT part of his job description. He didn't sign up for this when he came to the mainland.
STICK?
Snapping his eyes back open once more, Isele took a step towards the mare and gave her the sternest look he'd ever given anything before in his life.
"Do you NOT know how to say the letter 'I'? I could figure out your name the second you started talking. And it's a horn, not a stick in my head." Isele was angry. He'd been called funny, his head had been insulted, of all things, and his mind was being rent by a female that was jabbering along about things that he didn't need to hear today. "My name is Isele and I'm fine. You can't hurt me just by butting your head into my ribs. Why don't you watch where you're going when you run from now on though? Eh?"
Rolling both of his eyes, Isele tried to think of something he should say that might be able to get her to go away faster when he realized that he'd suddenly insulted her right back.

Whoa, this guy really had a rock on his head! She stared at him, slowly tearing up as he yelled at her, insulting her and making her feel like she was worthless trash. "Icefall is sorry!" she whimpered. "Icey didn't mean to make you mad, please, please stop yelling at her!" she begged, crying. "Icey didn't mean to be mean!" This guy was scary! She hadn't thought that other Soquili outside the family would be so terrifying! As such, she began to back away from him, shudders wracking her body every once in a while, showing her fear as well as her sadness.
Had she really been that annoying? That mean? That bad? Icefall had never been scolded or screamed at in such a way in all her young life, because she had never really done anything wrong... Her grandmother, Frosta, had always told her that, and she had believed in her grandmother's words with all her heart. But now, now, this stallion, this Soquili, was telling her through his actions if not words that she was really mean, cruel, and unjust. It only made her want to cry and apologize over and over. She really hadn't meant to make him mad!
"Icefall... Icefall is sorry she ran into you... she didn't mean to!" she shook her head, not comprehending his words very well, since she was still in shock over the stallion shouting at her. "It... It was n-n-n-n-n-nice to meet you, Isele..." she whispered. "Um... Icefall... is gonna go now... Sorry she disturbed you," she murmured, eyes lowered as she backed away carefully, trying to avoid angering the stallion even more as she did so... One problem, however, was that she was a silly and clumsy mare, and because of this...
...She slipped on a slippery rock, careening to the side, doing a comical, odd flip as she landed on her face. Of course, since she was feeling pure misery at the moment, she couldn't find herself laughing like she always had at her falls she normally had. Today was turning out to be a really, really bad day...

Just as he was about to appologize for being gruff and rude.. she took a fall. A rather nasty one as well. It wasn't like him to sit back and watch other Soquili suffer like she was. Fall all about and flail and just be in general in a bad mood and in pain.
Of course he'd been having quite a time recently but he wasn't going to let her jabber at him. Even less was he going to allow her the troubles of being hurt out here on the grass plains.
Concern ebbed into his voice as Isele walked up to her softly and nudged at her shoulder gently. "Are you okay little snowflake? That was quite the fall you just took. Did you bruise something?"
In the snap of a finger his personality changed, just as it always did when he was in his right mind. His mind was known to dodge back and forth just like his personality. But he had a genuine reason this time. She looked as though she'd been hurt and that was a bad thing.
Gently he nudged at her shoulder once more, trying to get her to her hooves in order for her to stand. If she could stand then she could prove that she was okay. He wanted to know that she didn't hurt anything with that tumbling flip of a fall. Certainly Isele himself would have been hurt and stiff after taking a dive like that.
Heaving a sigh, the stallion peered at her. "I'm sorry... You just caught me at a bad time. I was out in la-la-land and wasn't paying attention. It's my fault you ran into me for not hearing you coming and moving. I didn't mean to snap. I've just been having a bad day."
It wasn't fair that he'd gone and made her so scared that she'd tried to run away and possibly gotten hurt in the process of running away from his jarring words. If he hadn't been day dreaming none of this would have happened in the first place. It was true.
Yet some part of him deep down inside knew that he would do it again... that his past would strike his mind once more and he would drift off while he was walking. His family was weighing down heavy on him during these times of month. The times when he would have been chasing snowflakes with his brothers or kicking snow at his father.
It wasn't something he could give up. The fact was that he hadn't had enough good things happen to him for the stallion to remember anything but his family, but before. Maybe he would have to become proactive and change that if this sort of thing happened many more times.

She blinked at him in confusion as his attitude suddenly changed. He was even helping her get up! She hadn't really been too badly hurt, just shocked and startled.
...Plus, she was silly.
...And clumsy.
Why was he being so nice, all of a sudden? He was just yelling at her moments ago! She managed to cover up her whimper as she allowed him to help her back to her feet, and she shied away from him after she was steady. Her soft rose-colored eyes where slightly darkened from her panic, worry, and fright as she tried once more to approach the other Soquili carefully.
Her family was filled with cheerful, happy personalities so it was her first time experiencing a different kind. Icefall had always been the one to make her family smile, because she was always so innocent and pure, exactly like the white, white snow that was now beginning to melt because of spring coming around.
Of course, she also had no idea that perhaps this meeting with this "Isele" character would teach a lot of new things...
"Icey... Icey is okay," she spoke with uncertainty. "She is not hurt anywhere. She always falls and trips and stuff." She wasn't even looking at the unicorn in the eye anymore. He frightened her, and at the moment she felt if she tried to run he'd chase her down because it was thrilling for him. She had family members who had similar markings like he did--in fact, she was close with a few of them--but never before had she seen someone just blow up at her like that.
It suddenly clicked in her mind that he had asked an odd question from earlier while he had been ranting at her. Aside from the 'stick' in his head... what had he called it? A horn?... and he had also mentioned something about speaking in third person? What was speaking in third person all about?
"Um... I-Icey wants to know what Isele meant by talking in third person..." she said with a slight quiver, her cheerful tone somewhat enlaced with nervousness.

Lime colored eyes looked her up and down the second she was on her hooves, taking stock of just how much truth she was telling him or if she were lying in order to get away from him. It was hard to lie to a unicorn, they could usually tell just like a skinewalker could tell by smelling. Unicorn's were odd like that and even Isele had to admit that he didn't always know the full extent of what his powers could do. Only elder unicorns really knew, or Kirin... they knew everything though.
"Alright little Snowflake, don't go trying to run again for a little while though, your hocks may be bruised up from that flip you did. A flutter would be proud of that flip you just took." Isele said, making sure his voice wasn't antagonizing or angry in any way. He was generally a pretty level headed soquili, but flighty mares and idiotic Soquili could drive him completely out of that.
His muzzle slowly tilted up a little at her question, she didn't know what third person was though she spoke it. Maybe no one in her family had ever thought to explain that to her, maybe they enjoyed hearing her babble like that, this 'Icey' mare was fairly innocent. If she didn't babble so much or speak in that manner he would probably have enjoyed being around her more than he did. But just hearing her speak could drive him insane.
"Third person is when you speak your name whenever a normal Soquili would say the letter 'I' in reference to themselves. Like a Soquili that spoke normally would say "I just took a nasty fall." Where you say "Icey just took a nasty fall." It isn't normal but.... I guess no one ever corrected you when you were little, so it's not really your fault you speak that way." Isele shrugged a shoulder in defeat, knowing she might not understand the description of the malady that affected her words. It didn't matter though, she looked as if she were about two seconds from running away from him anyway.
What was the use of sugar coating words when there was a mare that was about to bolt out of your presence? Still... she was a cute little thing, a true innocently white little snowflake. Isele didn't want to hurt her, though the darker side of him still bubbled beneath in it's attempts to yell and get her to stop speaking that way. Maybe his ranged personality wasn't such a great thing, but at least it wasn't dual like some.
