It was one of those days.

With 'his curse', Asmodeus had good days and bad days. Occasionally there was a neutral day thrown in for kicks, but mostly it was good and bad. His senses allowed him to be a master hunter and fantastic in fights. However, sometimes he wondered if it was even worth it. Sometimes, the bad seemed to outweigh the good. Bad days, Asmodeus was sure, stretched time to its breaking point and lasted much longer than they should.

It was one of those days.

The young seer walked through the forest. It was dusk, one of his favorite times. The barrier that held back night grew thinner and thinner as time passed ever-so-slowly. Night was much more comfortable than day, he felt. Much more peaceful.
The seer stopped in his tracks and pinned his ears back as he felt the familiar sensation flooding into his mind.

". . .You'll never amount to anything. . ."

The words were as clear as if the wolf was standing right in front of him. But they felt unwelcome and dangerous being spoken directly in his mind.

"Eat s**t, you old grizzly fodder!" He silently shouted into the other's mind. Even though the wolf hadn't spoken with him (verbally or otherwise) in months, his words still stuck to Asmodeus' mind and stung him like a swarm of bees.

". . .Empty threats, pathetic puppy. . ."

Instead of fighting with his own mind, Asmodeus snarled and his hackles raised. He shook his head, trying to clear it, shutting ruby red eyes tight. His tail lashed angrily from side to side. He was so lost in the internal struggle he was unaware of any other creatures nearby.

Rend, that he was aware of, was an idiot. The fight had been a long while ago, but he still bore the scars of his stupidity. "Why would you attack your own brother... you knew he was stronger than you could ever be you stupid wolf." He spoke to himself, not bothering to go quietly. He had never even tried to learn the ways of the wolf... so he had never known them. Tracking, hunting, being the silent killer... he couldn't do any of it. "Maybe if I lumber through here loudly enough, my father will come to me." he thought, a giddy rush causing him temporary dizziness and blurred vision.

He was by now as thin as they came, as hunting anything was beyond his abilities. He mostly scavenged, and a lot of the predators around his parts didn't leave much that was edible behind. His stomach lurched and growled suddenly, and he growled back. "We'll eat when we eat!" he screached, sounding much like he did yelling at Maim when they were puppies.

Puppies... that day. Maim had left him, and if it weren't for Calixte, he would have never gotten back to Maim. Well, maybe Calixte should have minded her own business. He sighed, eyes misting up over the sudden dark thought towards who he could have thought of as his only friend.

Stumbling over random sticks and other forest debris, he kept on mumbling to himself. "I'll find Father, and I'll... I'll... " he paused, wondering momentarily how he would find his father if he well and truly couldn't track, and didn't really know the older wolf past the fact that he had mated with his mother...

"I'll be ok. He'll teach me everything Maim should have... and then..." his maw curled into a jagged smile as he thought of the two of them - he and his father - chasing Maim down like a scared rabbit. He too was so lost in his own head, that he nearly walked right into the other wolf.

Shadows of doubts and demons flooded the young seer's mind. His ruby eyes were shut to keep out the physical world and open up his mind. He bared his teeth and just as a low growl escaped his mouth, Asmodeus remembered he was supposed to be forgetting. He didn't need this invasion of privacy anymore. It was his life, after all. No more ghosts from the past.
Slowly, he regained control of his mind. The male's tail lowered to droop placidly behind him, and his hackles smoothed down. The most striking piece of his appearance, his eyes, once again looked upon the forest. Asmodeus flicked his ears and shook his head, returning to reality. However, reality had a bit of a surprise for him.
Clearing his mind of memories left it open to explore those around him. Before even seeing the wolf nearly walk over him, he was overwhelmed by a sense of revenge. Asmodeus turned his ears towards the emotion, and his eyes soon followed. There was another wolf very close to him -- a very poor looking wolf. The other was much too thin and his -- at least it smelled like a male -- coat was littered with old scars. Asmodeus grinned smugly. Ah, exactly his type. He decided to leave the other's mind in peace. . . for now.

Standing tall and confident, albeit a little condescending, Asmodeus asked, "Just what precisely do you think you're doing?"

"Buh-wah!" the scrawny wolf half-screamed, knocked right out of his monologue by the voice right in his ear. He shrunk back, holding a forepaw up near his chest and squatting down on his haunches. Needless to say, his tail was also tucked tight.

He really didn't know whether to be afraid that someone had snuck up on him so easily, or angry that someone had scared him so badly - so he just stood there staring blankly. After a moment, it clicked in the wolf's brain that the male standing in front of him had asked a question of him. "Wha... " he muttered, his brain finally cranking back into gear.

"I'm... er, I WAS... walking." he explained softly, still holding his silly posture. He didn't think to question the same back to the other wolf, why would he? Er... would the other wolf let him continue?

He backed up a bit, and tried to make his way around the wolf. "Um..." he fumbled, trying to gather the best way to make an exit, before things got nasty for him. It was very possible, though didn't cross his mind, that the other wolf wasn't going to let him just leave.

Asmodeus watched the other wolf with an almost disgusted grin. Who was this sickly scraggly wolf and why was he so nervous? Maybe he had recently escaped from some horrible fate? Not likely. He was probably just an imbecile too inept to feed himself. The seer watched the other wolf take an extremely submissive pose, but did not claim his spot as the alpha of the encounter. Asmodeus simply stood casually, tail drooping behind him, with that grin plastered on his muzzle.

Then, the black and gray wolf remembered he didn't have to guess at the others' past when he could just see for himself. Asmodeus snorted. That might be a little too much, a little too soon.

Walking, was he? Just for the sheer joy of it? Asmodeus cocked his head to the side, trying to decide what to make of this. . . creature. That, he decided, would not be strange to question.

"Just out for a nice stroll?" He stared into the other wolf's eyes. "Fabulous. As am I. Need some company?" Asmodeus asked, knowing very well that it was probably the last thing the other wolf wanted.

Looking up finally, Rend caught a glimpse of the horrific grin on the other wolf's face. He didn't enjoy the view at all, and slammed his head back down, nearly knocking himself silly when he hit chin to chest.

For now, he just stared dumbly at the other wolf's paws. What else could he do? He had not long ago proven that he was the worst fighter in the history of fighting, and his sorry hide proved to anyone who looked on him that he also had no talent for hunting.

He was growing sick of decomposed flesh, and his stomach rolled at the thought of it. For a moment, the wolf thought he was going to hurl. With a disgusted expression, he swallowed hard and licked at the air, drooling a bit.

Echt.

He, of course, balked at the question. His stomach felt shaky, but he couldn't tell if it was from the lack of eating, or from eating sickly dead bodies. Or from fear of this stranger... ?

"I.. I think I might just lay here for a minute?" he mumbled, almost as a question more than a statement, though he was too afraid to just... lay down in the company of a strange wolf. He kept his uncomfortable submissive position as long as he could, before falling over a moment later with a soft 'wuff'.
