Ways to get people active?
Contests?!?!

OH OH OH!!
How about rankings for how many people members have gained to join CT?
Example:
CyberDude15634 - 150 members
LocoChica12332 - 20 members
HellsBitch6669 - 234 members

Each time someone requests to join they must (if they saw a advertisement on the CB) state who posted the advertisement.
Say I was posting around and someone decided they wanted to join when they saw my ad. They would specify that they saw "Spookzee" posting it around. Thus I would get 1 member/1 point.
See we have the little join request questions, we could simply add something to the extent of "Which one of our members got you to join through their posting in the ChatterBox?"
Of course this idea is purely for fun and could indeed be worked out more.

But what if people started creating mules for that? I mean, I could create mules, and use random pics of my friends, or random people and call it a day.

Yes, they could but why? It wouldn't be a contest, it would be just for fun.
Why go through all the trouble to make a fake myspace (or other website) and gather fake pics through the internet, or make all those mules, and especially fill out all those join requests...

True. I wasn't saying make a fake ms, more so as use someone else's, but you do bring up a valid point. Why bother?

I mean I think it would be pretty fun, just something to look forward to every time you decide to advertise.

Other suggestions --
Guild mule for contest donations.
It's hard enough to raise gold all by yourself when your questing but especially when you are doing that plus trying to save up to buy next contest's prize.
It would be nice to have people donate some gold for prizes.
Contest Entry Fees
You could always put an entry fee on a contest. Usually a minimum of 50-100 gold or you could jack it up depending on what the prize may be.
It would save a lot of gold on the Captain's part (who normally buys and hands out the prize)
More contests going at once
Instead of having one contest running you could always have multiple.
Of course you'd have to purchase more prizes but they don't always have to be expensive. It just gives a reason to post more and have more fun.
It may even get people more active.
Random Sealed Envelope Giving
Every month a random member is given a Sealed just because.
It could keep people more active, the more active you are the better the chance you will get a Sealed.
Your posts depend on it?

Eh, I'm not sure if it's such a good, idea.
Some people can get carried away with this type of thing.
I've seen in it my Jedi guild, they tried it, but after a week everyone was doing what Winterborn described and stared having contests and s**t.
Even though it was designed just for run.
There are some pretty determined people on the internet. I think we all know that.

That is true, they could get carried away with the numbers and such. But what would it matter when it's not a big deal anyway.

I mean lol, like I said for fun. No one should get carried away with it.
It would also be to see how much people do advertise, cause even though crew says they advertise for like 2 hours in reality it could be 2 minutes.
The captain doesn't always have time to review the crew's posts.

-She's lost in coma where it's beautiful- I quite like those ideas... The guild mule and contest entry fees are good, helps the captain out.
Even the rankings, which have many unfortunate problems. I've seen things done like that before, and people do just use other peoples things etc. Although a way to combat it is that the new member has to post at least a certain amount of decent posts before they are counted as a member from them... It requires a little monitoring but it can be done and does help.
I really like the sealed idea, gives people more incentive to post. Which is always good.
Random question, but does the Winner of the Hall of Fame get anything? If they don't maybe they could?

Especially running multiple contests at once.
