Not far from her family's den, Aharu'kai sat giggling to herself, perched carefully on a thick tree branch. The tree certainly wasn't particularly healthy after the long drought, but the young goddess wasn't worried about its health. She was far more concerned with what was in the hole in the tree's trunk. There was a bird nest there, and there was something shiny inside - and Aharu was all about shiny things, especially when they didn't belong to her.

...didn't belong to her yet, anyway. She was still working on that part.

Kimbi had a habit of following his sibilings around. And while that could be seen as a good thing, for him, it wasn't always. Probably the most timid of his sibilings, it was pretty easy for him to spook from just about anything.

So the sudden rustling that he heard above him made his heart beat quicken. He sloooowly let his eyes scan upwards, only to see bits of his sister up there. That sister.

"Aharu?" he asked quietly, wondering if she would hear him. He didn't think it was so safe being all the way up there....

Aharu was just about to try and stick her paw in the hole when a soft, familiar voice interrupted her. It was Kimbilio, her tag-along brother - which didn't particularly bother her, as long as he didn't make himself a bother. Or want her shinies, for that matter, because the little Goddess of Thieves had a very hard time sharing. It usually took her mother to get ehr to do that.

"Oh, hey Kimbi!" she called down, before going back to trying to wiggle her paw into the hole.

Kimbi tried to peer up at what she was doing, but...it was actually really hard to be able to tell what trouble she was probably getting into. Half of him wanted to tell her it might not be a good idea....but the other half of him wanted to get into the fun, too. Poor boy.

He strained to see, stretching up the tree trunk that really only got in his way.

"What're you doing up there?" he asked. While their mother had finally begun to show them how to use their wings, Kimbi was still too scared to.

"Findin' stuff," Aharu answered vaguely, with a grimace and a wrinkle of her nose. She could sort of fit her paw in the hole, but not far enough to get the shiny thing and drag it out. She might be able to if she forced it a little more, but she didn't want to wind up stuck.

"Hey, Kimbi! Come up here, will ya? I need some help!" Maybe he had littler paws? She'd never paid much attention, but it could sure come in handy now if he did.

"Come...up there?" It was high up there! His eyes widened a bit at just the prospect of trying to get up there! "Umm....uhhh...." Gulp.

He clung to the side of the tree, wondering just how he was going to get up there. With some flaps of his little wings, he slowly wiggled his way up, his limbs aching as he balanced his weight with his erradic wingbeats and claws digging into the bark.

After what felt like forever, he finally got up to nearly where his sister was. Wheezing, he asked her again, "So uhh...what're ya doing?"

"Tryin' to get the stuff I found," she answered, once he'd struggled his way up the tree. Her voice had a sort of 'duh' tone to it. What else would she be doing? "C'mere, see if you can get your paw in there."

Before he'd come all the way to her branch, she sidled down it to give him room. "Mine doesn't fit."

Another long moment of trying to scurry over to where his sister was. At least it wasn't quite as scary as climbing up the tree. He just hoped to everything that he wouldn't fall.

He comfortably settled himself on the branch, noticing the hole in where his sister was digging. Why would she need to do that? But he'd try to help, he guessed. He stuck his paw in quite easily, the little runt that he was.

"Oohh....oh!" He felt something in there, though flashbacks to that spider incident made him shiver a bit. He extended his claw as far as he could...almost...almost!

He quickly withdrew his paw, just to try and peer into the hole. Alright, try two. After just sticking his paw in there for a moment, he was able to scoop them out of the hole, if a bit messily. Hope none slipped out onto the floor below! Kimbi was far from graceful.

It was all she could do not to crowd him, peer right over his shoulder and get in his way. Oh, please work! Please have little enough paws! Full of nervous anticipation, Aharu watched with what little patience she possessed, tail twitching quickly back and forth.

Oooh, that sounded good! "Have you got 'em, Kimbi? Have you?"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:31 pm

Kimbi slowly pulled his paw out, being slow and careful to make sure that he didn't drop them. It was hard enough reaching in there, but he was sure that he didn't want to get in trouble with Aharu just because he was clumsy!

He balanced himself on the limb as she turned to offer up the precious treasure to Aharu. "These?" They were shiney things. He wasn't too interested in them, but he knew birds were all the time. He saw them taking anything that they thought was mildly interesting, sometimes even his own feathers!

Aharu was obviously attracted to them too, or else she wouldn't be so fidgety about the whole thing.

He...he had them! Had there been room to do so, Aharu would have bounced in place, but as it was, the best she could safely manage was to wriggle. "Awesome! You did it!" Brimming with glee, the cub used her teeth to gingerly take the items from Kimbi. "Fffnks, Mmbi!"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 2:12 pm

Kimbi wiggled a little bit, hoping that they wouldn't get in trouble for taking whomever those treasures were. His worried eyes glanced around as he looked for that owner. Seeing nothing, and how there was little to no unusual noise in the thin jungle around them, perhaps they were in the clear...

He just wouldn't mention this to Momma. Not at all.

With a small dip of his head, he smiled sheeply at his sister. "Welcome, Aharu." She was always so one tracked, buuuut! At least she had said thanks. He'd probably do it again for her, if only just to feel that small speck of gratification again.

Since Kimbi had helped, it would have only been proper to offer him some of the spoils, but sharing and Aharu did not go together. She would if Mother told her to, but otherwise....anything she liked was all hers, as far as she was concerned! Not that she didn't love her brother, she just...couldn't share. Nope! It was waaaay too hard. So she just magic'd them all into her backpack, and that was that.

She did, however, reward him with an affectionate lick to his cheek before disappearing herself back to the ground.
