Well i'm a flute gone French horn, and my third key(valve?) keeps sticking. I don't know what to do about the strings though, I can't oil 'em up... I'm afraid of tinkering with them to try to fix it... It gets stuck in the down position and sometimes I can't get it back up either, what should I do! I have to bring it to school monday and play it!
Help! A desperate woodwind

Nevermind! I cleared it up with a little valve oil! I just took off those things next to the valves that spin off and put a drop of oil on each. The valves aren't perfect, but they are working a helluva lot better then they were before.

What you need to do is buy Rotary Oil. On the valves should we rotaries on the face-up side of the horn (Those are sort of like the joints of the valves). Unscrew them to see the rotary, oil it and keep repressing the valves after the application so lubricate it so that it moves faster without sticking. Then, you should be happy. ;D

All of these are good but if you still have problems pull out both of the slids that go wiht the third valve and put some valve oil in there as well then put it back in, turn the horn so it leeks into the vale and wiggle the key until fixed. If this doesn't work ask a band director!
