Topic #2: Canada officially ticks off the American Military.
"^U.S. soldiers who have deserted the military because of the war in Iraq should be allowed to stay permanently in Canada^, the House of Commons voted in a non-binding motion on Tuesday.
Link: BI'm no fan of the Bush Administration, but with this news at least I know where to go when the draft is re-instated.
"Canada was a haven for tens of thousands of draft dodgers during the Vietnam War and has attracted an estimated 175 to 200 Americans who are resisting the Iraq conflict."
175 to 200...surprisingly small numbers, at least in terms of the war unpopularity.
"The minority Conservative government opposes the idea, arguing that, unlike during the Vietnam War, the current U.S. military is composed of volunteers, and also that Washington allows people to apply for conscientious objector status."
Ok, that being said, I think we all know, if you don't think you can handle the scorching heat of the desert sun, then for god sake, don't just grab a bottle of sunblock and go anyway.
