Where students eat their meals, chat with one another, get into fist-fights, the usual cafeteria stuff, just in nicer surroundings!

Tom Feather entered the Great Hall, walking in long strides that was characteristic of him. His slim figure, clad in a maroon Renaissance top with ruffled sleeves today, was swaying with his step. He reached up and absentmindedly fingered a lock of his hair, not noticing if anyone was watching.

Unfortunately, he always drew attention to himself.

He sat down at the Gryffindor table, and gave his most disarming smile at those sitting nearest to him.

"What's for breakfast?" Tom yawned, reaching for a fork.

Beyond the doors of the Great Hall, there were distinct sounds such as loud bangs, excessive swearing, and Peeves's trademark cackle. Moments later, a dripping and disgruntled Nymphadora Tonks trudged into the Hall, her shoes making an odd sloshing sound with every step. Seeing as her shoes were slippery and untied, and her natural lack of grace, she soon found herself making very close contact with the floor. She found reason to cuss yet again as she picked up her sore bum from the tile floor, only to have her shoe slip again and for her to fall again.

No one even looked, as this was considered business as usual. Dear old Nymphadora pissed off Peeves, Peeves threw numerous random objects at her (this morning's attack was water-balloons), and she entered the Hall looking ridiculous and falling over herself.

Tom turned to look at "Tonks" and almost fell off his seat with laughter. He had always enjoyed Peeves' antics, and was one of the few students that Peeves never tried to bother.

Tom did not want to be seen as rude, as he had just laughed at the poor girl, so he strode over to help her up. As he reached the puddle, he almost slipped, but regained his balance. Unlike Tonks, he was rather coordinated.

He leaned over, gave a quick smile, and extended his hand.

Tonks looked up at the hand, blinked stupidly, then finally took it. It was far too early for her to function quite properly. She should be fine in a few minutes. "Thanks mate, I always appreciate help from the boys in red," she mush-mouthed sleepily before itching her head (making her wet green hair look even more tousled than before) and making her way to her seat with the 'Puffs.

Tom blanched and looked after her, wondering if she felt as bad as she looked.

Oh well, he thought. She'll recover later in the day. How can you NOT when you have pink hair?

"Or green..." he added aloud, still pondering the soaked Hufflepuff. He flicked his wand and cleared up the puddle, lest anybody trip.

Achlys wandered into the Great Hall.

She had just finished reading Muggles' Communications by Amelia Gussak. Her head was swimming with telephones and computer e-mail.

She was so concentrated, in fact, that she almost ran into a tall Gryffindor boy with really neat hair.

"Sorry," she muttered.

Tom Feather opened his arms graciously, making his ruffled sleeves rustle, and accepted her apology with naught but a charming shrug of his shoulders.

"Don't fret," he said airily, looking down on the fifth-year. "Tom Feather, by the way. You are?"

"Achlys Prophet," she replied, gaining firmness. She was proud of her family name. Her father was an obliviator for the Ministry of Magic.

She pulled herself together and stalked off with a backward glance at Tom.

She respected him and his kindness. Usually when she walked into someone due to her absorption in her books, she was cursed at. It was an everyday thing.

By the time breakfast ended, Tonks was perfectly dry. She had pouted and begged one of her classmates to help her out, and he had finally obliged. She stared at her reflection in a (NOT stolen!) spoon as she changed her hair intricately. She was trying to shift the base of her hair to a dark forest green, and gradually lighten it up until it was mint green at the tips. Her brow was ferociously furrowed as she concentrated deeply. The rest of her was turning white she was so focused on giving her hair color. By the time she was finished her eyes made her look blind.

Tom returned to his seat at the Gryffindor table, but his eyes still lingered on the Hufflepuff "Tonks". She was making her hair change color... Oh, he reminded himself. That's right. She's a metamorphagus.

Grinning, Tom took a cereal puff from his neighbor's bowl and hovered it half-way across the hall. When it neared the Hufflepuff table, he gave it speed. He quickly turned around as the puff hit Tonks's head, so that she would not notice that it was him.

Tonks was so concentrated on morphing that the puff on her head shocked her hair white and she fell out of her seat in surprise. She looked rather like a corpse, lying on the ground, completely white. She then sat up, picking up the offending puff and still looking quite deceased, and narrowed her eyes at the Gryffindors. "Alright, who did it? Unless you want me to lay on your table looking like this--" she gestured to her rather unpleasant visage, "--then get talking." Her eyes, though stark white, flashed dangerously. This was why she wanted to be an Auror; she was intimidating when she wanted to be. The corner of her mouth twitched, thinking she probably looked hilarious.

Tom turned to look at her, not unlike the rest of the Gryffindor table. Although his face was held straight, his eyes were smiling. He almost cursed them, and thought that they'd give him away.

A funny thing about Tom was the fact that he was almost proficient in wandless magic. He flaunted it in the common room, but not many outside the Gryffindor circle knew. He could not, however, perform it unless he muttered the incantation. He supposed that he would have to practice on wandless magic in addition to silent spells; he could benefit from it in many ways. As for now, though, he was quite stuck.

Tom knew it would give him away, but wanted so badly to take credit for the puff, so he did anyway. Muttering the spell, he hovered the rest of the uneaten bowl of puffs toward the glowering Tonks.

"Want to taste the rest of them?" He said cheekily, before landing the bowl right into her hands smoothly, not even letting the milk slosh.

Tonks caught the bowl in her hands, nearly dropped it, but then raised one eyebrow slowly at the boy who had propelled the puff at her. She was trying really hard to look serious and very 'from-the-house-of-Black,' but he was just such a smart-a**. She couldn't help it. She snorted. Instantly the color returned to her as she placed the bowl on the table to keep from dropping it, and fell into uncontrollable giggles. She thought she was getting over them after a minute, then snorted like a pig.

"Oh no!" she said before snorting again. "Oh--" Giggle-snort. "--oh-s**t!" Giggle-snort. "You are--" Giggle-snort. "--so mean!" Snort. "Cheeky b*****d!" She had to sit down and lay her head on the table until she was able to calm down. She looked up with an extremely red face. "I like you, Red. I'm Tonks, though you probably already know that. What's your name? Though, I do like the name Red, it fits nicely." She grinned broadly at him, still highly amused.

"My name is Cepheus Feather," he replied bemusedly, twirling his wand in his right hand. "Though, if you call me by that first name, I'll very likely hex you."

He extended his hand --- For the second time today, he thought --- in greeting.

"Just call me Tom," he stated, still beaming from the sight of the giggling witch.
