I'm the "girl" that sits across the lunchroom, watching over you
February 20th, 2008This is the very last day I'll ever set foot in this school. Don't get me wrong, I am not dropping out or anything. Starting tomorrow, I'll be homeschooled by a private tutor. I didn't know why I bothered coming to school anyway. My mother had already notified the principal and all of my teachers know already. So why did I bother showing up when I could have just stayed home. The answer was simple;
I wanted to say good bye to her.
Evana; my envision of beauty. The girl I've fallen for since I've met her. Ever since she had transfered to this school, I had been constantly watching over her. I've been observing her for so long that I could remember just about every single detail about her. I can even give you the significant and insignificant details about the way she walks or how she would tend to wear a different hair clip everyday she came to school. There was also the fact that she likes to tie her hair up into two perfect and neat pigtails.
But today is the last day I'll ever see my beloved beauty. At least in school anyway. Perhaps when I go grocery shopping for mother, I'll just "coincidentally" bump into her. But my goal was to say goodbye to Evana and that's all for now. I hastily stood up from the table I was sitting at and walked over towards the table where she was sitting with her friends.
I slowly began to slow down as I listened to the girl's noisy chatter. There was a lump in my throat and I felt my chest tighten. Something was about to burst when I realized who they were talking about. Kaine.
"Did you remember the first time he tried to ask me out?" Evana asked as she began to laugh hysterically.
"He's such a nerd."
"A complete idiot if you ask me."
"W-wait...if he is a nerd...doesn't that mean he's smart? How is he an idiot then?"
"Shut up." Evana snapped and the other girls came to a hush. Finally, the girl sent a rather peircing glare towards my way. I wonder, what happened to the gentle eyes that I used to see. "Who are you? Why are you here? What do you want?"
"U-uh...w-well..." I stuttered. I didn't know what to say. My eyes darted left and right and I watched as the whole table began to send me the same cold glare. That didn't really lift any of the pressure that was suffocating me at the moment.
"K-Kana. My name is Kana. I-I'm here because...w-well..." I sucked in as much air as I could.
"You look familiar..." Evana suddenly says and I felt my heart thump. "Kinda like Kaine..." I opened my mouth to say something but she continued to speak.
"Nah. Can't be. You aren't a boy and if you were, you're much too pretty to even resemble Kaine~! Even if you were his twin, you're the better looking one." Hearing those words made the lump in my throat swell even more. "So tell me...what do you need?" Her eyes suddenly became softer. I knew then and there that she must really dispise Kaine. The reason? I don't know.
So, I tried my best to force a smile on but it looked strained. "I-I just came to compliment your hair today..." I answered. It wasn't a lie, really. Her hair really did look nice today. But that wasn't the reason why I approached her.
Evana stared at me and blinked twice before smiling. "Thank you." She replied and then turned back to her conversation with her friends. Suddenly, Kana no longer existed in her world.
But I didn't want to leave without doing what I came here to do. "G-good bye." I said but it was drowned out by the loud gossip. I turned on my heel and walked out of the cafeteria and out of the school. I really needed to go home and convince myself that Evana wasn't worth loving. I didn't need to beat myself over for her. But, it didn't happen.
I finally reached the front door step of my house and then knocked on the door three times. I counted ten seconds before I heard a woman called out "Just a second!". Then I counted twenty seconds and the door finally opened. I stared at my mother who greeted with a warm smile.
"Welcome home, Kaine..." She says and moved aside so I could enter.
"Y-yeah...thanks mom..." I replied and stalked up the stairs while counting how many steps I took to get to my room; 90 steps. Then I began to count how many steps it would take to get to my closet; 10 steps. I neatly pushed aside my clothing and managed to find a big card board box all the way in the back. I opened the lid and smiled to find the very object I was looking for.
"Alice..."
