The cub in her mouth knew better than to squirm as he was carried up to the top of one of the great termite castles. He dangled from his 'loving' mother's mouth, her teeth pressed about his stomach just shy of ripping into his skin. That he didn't care about--one might even say that he liked it, in some fashion yet indescribable to a cub's limited experience. Instead, his eyes focused on the dim golden light around them, dripping in from holes at the top of the mound. They were ascending up a great, curving ramp towards one of those holes--wider than the others.

When they reached it, Sarafina paused only a second to set him upon the ground. Stepping over her son as he got to his feet, she continued her way out onto the ledge that over looked the mounds and the emerald land beyond. The land she had once called home.

"What is that, mother?" Nuka asked, coming to settle beside her. His eyes--green as his mother's and her grand-sire before her's--roamed over the first sight of the pridelands he'd ever taken.

"Beautiful it seems, does it not?" Sara replied slowly. Never did she glance at the boy or give him more than that minute acknowledgment. "But no. Its appearance, as most are, is deceptive. It is a land of filth and repugnance. A place of short-sighted fools and loose morals. It is our greatest enemy."

Sukari was... pleased.

She was pleased. Yes. As pleased as she had ever found herself to be; this was home, she thought to herself as she padded the by then rather familiar grounds of the pride. She'd made sure, long since, to determine every crack of the grounds; every corner, every hill... she'd drawn out a map in her head, and as far as she was concerned her only thought pertaining an invasion or harm to her own was; Let them ******** TRY.

Oh, just let them try, she thought to herself, however, her train of thought derailed as she caught the scent of the queen in the air, and slowly, almost by instinct, the general changed the path she'd been treading and padded up the trail. She arrived the scene just in time to hear Sarafina's words and she smirked, "Things are never what they seem," she sneered slightly, sniffing haughtily, as if the motion would somehow or other be seen across their land, detected by the pridelands.

The cub turned with the new voice intruded on their conversation. The pair of them had not yet been presented to the rest of the pride--all he'd seen of them were a few glimpses and scents. Sarafina had told them that they would be joining the rest of the cubs soon. Of course by 'soon', sara had meant that she'd toss them both in there that night... but he had no way of knowing it.

"Who're you?" He asked with his usual blunt 'charm', eyes narrowing at the intruder. The cub made a sharp 'oof'ing noise a second later when his mother cuffed him soundly across his ear.

"Mind your manners, boy," She rebuffed him easily then cast a nearly loving smile over her shoulder. "Quite true, Sukari. Meet my son, Nuka. Nuka.. you would do well to listen to what Sukari tells you."

Oh, she'd known about the cubs; she'd not seen them, really, since the fateful day of the birth, where being the oldest of the lionesses, she'd helped out. But she'd known they were there; growing, learning and... apparently, being a nuisance, too. The dark lioness chuckled mildly, "Blunt, aren't you?" she drawled at the cub, then neared the duo, bumping the top of her head rather lovingly against the Queen's. True, there was nothing do indicate... anything between the two females, but Sukari knew a bond when she felt it, albeit as strange as it was, she dared not poke it, nor question it.

It was there, and that was that.

She was about to speak up when she suddenly felt a pressure against her side; turning revealed what looked like a small cub; Bazi had somehow or other.... snuck up on her and was peeking from behind her form towards Nuka, brown eyes blazing under her skull with molten curiosity, "Where are you manners, Bazi?" came the general's drawling voice to which the cub instantly looked up and smiled, though the twitch of her maw was eerie.

"Good morning."

"Bazi." Sara smiled slightly at her little sister. Oh yes, Sara had favorites and they were well known... though she hadn't seen much of the masked cub in the moons since her own brood had been born. That would have to change, she decided, and gestured for the older cub to come forward. "Come here. Meet your nephew."

Nuka snorted. The new faces were weird, he thought, and Sukari's delicacy strange compared to the thick boned bother he loved. Stranger yet that this female shared a name with his father--but though Nuka loved his father, he had about as much respect for the giant purple male as his mother seemed to. That was, there was no respect there, even from a small cub.

Bazi, however, was a different experience all together. Nuka's eyebrows raised at the skull she had settled over her own. He didn't see much of his mother in her sister, but he knew perfectly well the relation between he and this cub--Sarafina had all drilled her brood on the names and rank of everyone in the pride. Nuka's head ducked slightly, sinking down against his shoulders as he looked up at the females. "mornin'" He bit off, still sulking from being hit. "Where'd you get that funny looking skull?"

The cub in question smiled slightly as she was addressed by name; all what she did though, was wag her tail once, swishing it over the arid terrain. At least, till she was called forward; despite being older than Nuka himself, she was just barely bigger, which might've been slightly preoccupying had it not been obvious she'd been born the runt. This didn't quite seem to deteriorate the way the small cub presented herself, with an air of superiority towards any of those below her (read: anyone not in her pride).

Sukari was in no way dumb; she'd noticed the snort from the boy, but it did not bother her. Not now. Oh... all what she'd need was a couple of training lessons with the cubs. She'd teach them the ways of fighting the outside world held; as a trained, experienced fighter, whom had passed from mistweaver territory, through firekin and others, Sukari held no doubt that given the chance, she'd be able to put anyone.... at all, in his or her place. For now, she allowed the cubs to get acquainted, "She followed me; probably curious. Most the others don't really tag with her. Bazi has different... interests, apparently."

The small cub grinned under the skull, her eyes narrowing, "It was... a present," she told him, "From the darkness," of course, no one LISTENED to her when she said this. No one ever really believed her, even if it WAS the truth. Perhaps, if one day someone'd listen, she'd tell them the story. Instead now, she padded nearer, and did something she hadn't in a very long time; she pushed her skull off her face to allow herself to be seen, her nose wiggling as she took in Nuka's scent.

The male backed away at first, until his mother's paw forced him to stop. He'd come too close to the edge and it was a long fall down. Nuka glanced over his shoulder, then at the pale cub that was advancing on him. He didn't know what he thought would be under that skull, but it certainly wasn't the normal looking face that he was presented with. ... Normal for a cub, anyway. Seeing that, he suddenly felt ashamed of having backed off and gave a little growl. Nuka pressed his nose against Bazi's and pushed her back a little, his nose twitching against hers as he did.

Sarafina allowed this to go on. Rather than pa y more than idle-seeming attention to either cub, she turned her gaze upon the older female who accompanied them. "I noticed." Was all she said with a shrug. Bazi's presence was fine with her--if she hadn't been ready to show the cubs off she wouldn't have brought them out of the den. "Well, the others will have to deal with her.. they're all family are they not? I think its about time Nuka and Kovu joined their family, i've babied them for far too long already." It'd only been a few weeks, no more than two in actuality.

"Indeed," the older lioness snorted; she didn't really care that Bazi didn't quite fit in. After all, she'd come to rather... enjoy the skull-clad female's company. Bazi seemed to accompanying the general more often than she did the other cubs; it didn't matter, so long they all knew their place. And since they seemed to, then all was fine, "I don't really think it matters; I rather like 'different'. Different is.... refreshing," the only thing she had against bazi was the fact the cub had once actually gone as far as catching a small snake and tried to keep it as a pet before being told forcefully NO.

Meanwhile, Bazi was amused; flashes of.... something danced in her eyes as she saw Nuka take a step back, and then push against her. They were matched in strength.... for now; he'd soon outgrow her, of that there was little doubt, but the amusement that shone in her eyes did not fade at the notion, merely made her smirk wider before she took the chance to lift her head and lick his nose, just where the purple melted away. He... was interesting. To say the least.

His eyes crossed to look at her tongue as she licked him. Weird creature. Yet... He smirked to match her and then ducked his head, dropping into a crouch as he growled. The adults would recognize play, surely, and soon enough he'd launched himself to tackle his 'aunt', and roll with her down into the darkness of the termite mounds.

"Careful of the cliff!" his mother growled harshly... but made no other move to stop him. He wanted to fight with his aunt? then let him fight. Those were skills the children would need, after all. Instead, she gave a friendly shrug to her friend. "Different is what we all are, in our way... and a blessed thing, too.. that we are different." Sarafina's eyes once more found her bright jewel of an obsession. The land to their north. The pridelands. "different is a wonderful thing."

A squeak, marred by a giggle as the other crouched and pounced. That was all what the small female was able to do as Nuka very easily dominated her. Not that she was easy, but the fact she was small frame made it impossible for her to do much but bite at his neck and paw at his chest between fits of giggles. The skull had somehow managed to roll off her head and lay discarded to the side, pressed against Sukari's leg.

Sukari seemed to be of a similar mind and merely placed a paw on the discarded skull to keep to from rolling away; if it tumbled to oblivion, surely Bazi would mourn. A sneer at the words, "Blessed indeed; at least WE know what's good for us, and don't spend the time doing things to dig our own graves deeper," talking about that... "Is all well?" she arched a brow; it was.. polite to not really name names, but she was unsure if there'd been any rumors. She'd spent too much time hunting, patrolling and then, teaching what poor cub crosed her way. Her eyes slowly drifted towards the pridelands, then narrowed, "It will succumb.... sooner or later. They will crawl to us."

"All is well," Sarafina nodded, lifting a brow, Is there something that I am not aware of going about?" A chorus of growls and playful hisses came from the dark cave, but she ignored them. Let the children be what they would be.

A pause from the general as she turned inward, almost as if reviewing within her mind all what she knew, "I was hoping you would tell me; since you went into labor I've busied myself hunting, patrolling just in case there's strategic points I would not know about... and teaching the children," she looked back upon the queen mildly, arching a brow, "I've no idea what anyone's been up to; Tahka, your other brother, or the others, really."

"I haven't heard much from them myself. But you raise a good point. I'll toss the children in with the others tonight and begin my rounds again--i've been lax far too long." The queen agreed with a nod. It would do no good to become lazy now that her children had been born. No good at all.. for wasn't that what the outlands had been founded for? The lioness shook her head. "Thank you for reminding me."

Tell truth, it was not only a reminder, it was.... advice, given from a slightly older lioness to another. Somehow, the idea of not keeping an eye on the others was a disturbing one to Sukari; lord knew what they were thinking and what trouble they were brewing, "They're.... not bad, just," she grasped around for a word, failed a couple of times before snorting, "Easy to distract from the actual goal," she told the queen, pausin only when the giggles from the cave became high-pitched, "Remember what I taught you!" came the general's call, for she'd trained Bazi too.

"Yes Aunt Suk-" and the response was just again by giggles. Whatever.

Sarafina laughed herself, unable to help it. Cubs would be.... even if she never had. Not really. The lioness nodded and rose to her feet. "If you would be so kind as to watch those two--and don't hesitate to give Nuka a wack or two about the ears should he need it--I think I'll see to their current occupations before there's any word of the queen leaving her nest. It would be preferable to catch them off their guard, if indeed they've fallen from task."

"I'd love to get acquainted with the rascal; Bazi seems to like him," she murmured, a dark smirk over her maw and the words under the words... the ones left unheard were there; If Bazi likes him, that's a point in his favour as far as I'm concerned. This in mind, she nodded to the queen, brushing against her side and towards where the cub play ahead, "All right then!" she snapped at the darkness, "Let's get some formation here; you two are a disgrace, can't even pounce the right way! Look at you!" it was clear she was not angry though; oh how she LOVED the idea of cubs to teach. Good cubs. They were her own as much as any of those with her blood running through them; actually, they were more her own than the ones she'd birthed, she decided after a moment.

Sarafina smiled at the picture the three of them made. SHe saw the cubs rushing to do as commanded... doubtless Nuka would try something as soon as his mother was out of the picture, but that remained to be seen. The Queen nodded to her general, then elected to take a small trail down to the bottom, rather than using the interior path. This way was harder... but it was also less used and the others wouldn't see her until it was too late.
