In roleplaying, participants adopt and act out the role of characters, or parts, that may have personalities, motivations, and backgrounds different from their own. Roleplaying, also known as RP, is like being in an improvisational drama, in which the participants are the actors who are playing parts.

in more basic words than sonic said....roleplay means to pretend...sometimes acting as someone else or urself, just having something that wouldn't happen on the real world
