Rejected by the Underground
What happens if your own kingdom disowns you? How much time has it been since Sarah had bested Jareth, Goblin King, at his own game in his own Labyrinth? In the mortal world, a few years had expired, resulting in an older and more mature and officially adult Sarah Williams. In the Underground, whereabouts of a year has transpired. Maybe more. Maybe less. Time in between these realms never were parallel, so it's hard to tell at times. How have these measures left our two characters? Well, Sarah finished high school and moved to the big city of Megalopolis to continue her studies in theatre and acting. Her busy life has forced her to push back her memories of a particular adventure in a fantastic land, labeling them as mere dreams so they would not hinder her new direction in life. Jareth, however, knew full and well that those particular events were not merely hallucinations of a dormant mind, but actuality and truth. Because of this, his subjects have made note that his mood has been rather low and touchy. He stopped singing and dancing with them, reverted back to punting them randomly through the palace window, and even the sinister laugh has not escaped his lips. To remedy this, a band of goblins decided to put on a magic show to entertain his majesty in hopes that he would smile, laugh, sing, and dance once more. But to make a magic show, goblins need magic, right? One particularly brave goblin managed to sneak into Jareth's study and steal one of his crystal orbs, but it was okay, wasn't it? It was going to be returned to the king after the show, and the magic it held was for his own entertainment, so it made everything okay, right? Invited to this fantastic magic show were Jareth, of course, and some of the other well-known names from the Labyrinth and the Goblin City. Sir Didymus with his trusty steed Ambrosious, Ludo, Hoggle, and some others were sure to attend, and they did. Everything was planned out to every detail the goblins could think up. The plan could not fail. They would have their King back. Nothing could go wrong.... ...if it wasn't for the fact the goblins failed to know that they did not know how to control the magic within the borrowed crystal. The audience, comprised of a dwarf, fox, stone-calling sasquatch, dog, a few others, and King were able to enjoy two whole minutes of the show, with painted-feathered chickens suddenly and amazingly came running into the room, then suddenly rushing back out (accented with some extra taunting by performing goblins). On its way out, the chicken bumped into the small table of magical accessories, involving rubber chickens, chattering teeth made of wood, fedora hats designed to produce chinchillas, and the crystal. Only the crystal fell from the table, and it shattered upon the stone floor, allowing the magic trapped inside to escape. It was a shame Jareth was yawning at that particular moment in time, for he might have been able to prevent finding himself himself in a very narrow alleyway in a very busy Aboveground city the moment he opened his eyes again....

Premise
Where does our story begin? Somehow, Jareth, Ludo, Hoggle, Sir Didymus, Ambosius, and a few custom characters find themselves no longer in the Underground. What is even more odd is that most find themselves much taller, less hairy, quite a bit more handsome, and have taken on human form. The exception is Ambrosius; the poor thing is still a sheepdog. What will the party do when they realize this is the city Sarah is in at the time they arrive? What will Sarah do? What will they do when they realize that Jareth barely has any magic left at his control?

Rules
Can you play along? Standard Gaia TOS and Guild Rules apply. That means be nice to each other and keep the swearing to a minimum. Please be literate.I, myself, role play as literate to advanced-literate, so my posts can get to be pretty detailed and lengthy. I do not ask of the same quantity from everyone, but please do put some thought into posts with some detail. I hate putting a minimum or a quota, but be reasonable so that I may avoid doing so in the future. Please be considerate of other characters. No one character is all powerful and can command another. Remember, even Jareth has been stripped of most of his magic and can get pushed around. If deaths are to occur, they are to be mutual out-of-character. Please notate out-of-character texts appropriately.Being that there will be no OOC-thread for OOC banter, please find a way to make your OOC noticeably separate from your post. Whether it be a double pair of parentheses, brackets, a different size or color, it doesn't matter. Just make sure we can all understand it (I can be pretty dense at times). Most importantly, have fun!Self explanatory, I hope.

Characters
Who will you be? Please PM me a character request with the title "Rejected by the Underground" (otherwise I get very confused with multiple RPs and many random PMs in my inbox). Canon characters are on a first come, first serve basis. Custom characters are certainly welcome, both those who transfered from the Underground and those native to Aboveground. If posting an image in a profile, please present it as a hyperlink (that way my computer won't have a seizure every time I come to this particular RP). Sorry, kiddos. I claim Jareth on this one. I promise to toss him up for grabs next time around. Custom characters, please fill out this form as your profile. If the character is originally from the Underground, he/she/it will have taken human form after being warped to Aboveground. Character Name: Race: Gender: Age: Appearance: Biography: Jareth: Javinus Sarah: Sarah_Williams08 Hoggle: Lexy Blackwind (temporary - feel free to take over) Ludo: Sir Didymus (with Ambrosius): Javinus (temporary - feel free to take over) Custom Characters:Lexy Blackwind Character Name: Jalin Darkwood Race: Human/Fae-like... best classified as a mage. Gender: Female Age: She won't tell anyone, but looks to be twenty-five-ish. Appearance: Jalin (picture is claimed by Javinus). Jalin stands at 5'4", dark hair waving down her back, but glimmers unnatural colors, such as green, blue, and fiery red, when the light hits it right. Her eyes are primarily dark brown, but seem to have the same effect as her hair. Her figure is naturally curvy and becoming, often catching the attention from people whom she doesn't want attention. In the Underground, she wears plain clothing that compliments her womanly body usually consisting of skirts and low-cut blouses. When she is Aboveground, she does her best to fit in with whatever common society deems appropriate. Biography: Jalin is a rather powerful mage, native to the Underground, thus bringing her to a rather high status in the political realm. However, she has no loyal ties to any particular kingdom. Instead, she labels herself as a 'freelance agent,' working for various kingdoms at various times, depending on who can pay the bill she presents. Many a times, she has worked for and with Jareth, especially since she is often commissioned to patrol and research Aboveground matters, and Jareth is the keeper to inter-realm travel. Sometimes, she just vacations Aboveground for decades, fitting into mortal society the best she can. When Jareth-and-friends (bosom companions, maybe?) find themselves in Megalopolis, Jalin had already been vacationing there for two or three years, suspiciously close to Sarah. jelliclekitten Character Name: Liv Holliday Race: Human Gender: Female Age: 21 Appearance: Long strawberry blond hair, which reaches to her mid-back. Brown eyes. She is of average height and build, standing about 5'6 and looking as though she keeps active. She can usually be seen with a light, almost secretive smile on her face. As for her everyday clothing, she usually wears jeans or khakis and oversized tops, such as men's sweatshirts or airy peasant tops, and her favorite pair of Doc Martins. Biography:Liv is a theater major as well, although she chooses to focus her course of studies on the more technical side of the stage. She met Sarah during a production that she was assigned costuming duties for, and they became friends quickly. Though Liv tends to be off in her own little world, she is very down-to-earth, trustworthy, and likable, and she would be willing to help out her friend with any problems she encountered.

Wow, that yawn felt good. Jareth simply could not suppress it.
It was not that the magic show put on in his honor was particularly boring, it just wasn't his cup of tea at that moment. Well, in all honesty, not much was going to be his cup of tea since that particular incident happened. He duly appreciated what his subjects were trying to do for him, but Jareth would have much rather be someplace completely different. Nowhere in particular.... just a new set of scenery to help get his mind off things.
Even Goblin Kings need to be careful for what they wish for, because Jareth just got what he wanted the moment he opened his eyes from that full-bodied yawn.
As the light flooded back to his retinas and the sounds filled his ears, Jareth's mind tried to comprehend why he was smelling these god awful scents. They did not compare in the least to the Bog, but the odors were unpleasant nonetheless. Then his mind realized that instead of the usual stone comprising his throne room walls, they were replaced with a thick sheet of concrete. To answer his mental question about the fumes he was unfamiliar with, a rather large, loud, and fast moving monster rumbled past him, blowing dust and a dark smoke to swirl around him and his guests.
"I say, milord, was that a truck?" a familiar voice asked near his side. "Verily! It appears that I have a new form! Ambrosious! Doth your eyes behold the same miracle as mine?" The voice belonged to the fox, what's his name, Dandylion.
A few coughs were needed to clear his lungs of the smoke he just inhaled, and when his eyes came to focus, he did notice that the knightly fox was right... he did have a new form. In matter of fact, he looked more human than a fox.
The sheepdog, however, was still a sheepdog, who whined to himself upon realizing this for himself.
Looking around a little more, Jareth found his other guests, all in a similar predicament as Sir Dandilus. Hoggle, Ludo, and the rest of the crowd had indeed managed to morph into something more human than what they previously were.
"Sire?" the short, yet lanky redhead that use to be the fox cautiously called to the king. "I believe that we are indeed no longer in the Castle Beyond the Goblin City, milord."
Instantly, Jareth's face contorted into a scowl, for the comment helped put all the puzzle pieces together. The fox was right - they were not even in the Labyrinth, nor anywhere in the Underground.
"I don't recall summoning us away..." he thought aloud to himself.

Sarah kept looking in the ballroom for the Goblin King. She looked everywhere but couldn't tell who was who. The mask threw her off. As she came to the center of the room. Her dress felt heavy. She regonized it though as being the same one from before.
"But why am I here?" She asked herseld loudly.
A hand gentle touched her shoudler. She turned startled to find Jareth behind her. His wicked smile was not to be missed.
"Why am I here? I defeated you years ago" He didn't respond.
She stared into his eyes until they both heard a faint beep. She walked past him lifting her dress so she could walk closer to the noise. Jareth still watched her. She turn to him hoping for an answer but all he could manage was a shrug.
'Some help you are' She thought.
The noise suddenly grew louder and louder. Everything was starting to dissapear. Jareth was the last to go. He walked up to her and brought her face closer to his. She closed her eyes. But then, she woke up.
She opened her eyes and looked at the red numbers on her digital alarm. 6:00am. 'Damn it'
She slamed her fist down on the snooze button and silenced it. She rubbed her eyes and laid in the bed for another five minutes.
"Atleast, it was only a dream." She reassured herself then got up to get her morning routine started. She entered the bathroom to find a few ribbons in her hair still. She thought about it for a few seconds but dismissed it.

It was six in the morning, and Jalin was already in the bathroom of her studio apartment in the heart of Megalopolis, attempting to tame her nightly frizz without the aid of her usual magic.
"Oh, the luxuries I miss from the Underground..." she sighed to herself before giving up the fight with the bottle of mousse. A shake of her head to and fro stimulated the magical energies to spread from the roots to the tips of each strand of hair, forcing them to lay neatly in the style she usually sported - long, flowing, and frizz free. "There goes most of my spell allotment for the day."
Back into her bedroom, she leaned into the cheap full-length mirror screwed into the wall, intending to use the rest of her quota of magic before breakfast. It was time to check up on business back at home. With a couple taps of her fingernail against the reflective surface, the mirror came to do her bidding. The image of herself in the bedroom melted away to be replaced by another image with another face staring sleepily back at her.
"Jal, it's thirteen in the middle of the night," the stern-looking man, hair in disarray, said just barely above a mumble. The jagged scar running from his left eye and down the length of his cheek was especially pronounced, Jalin noticed, in the flickering candlelight. "You of all people know that I retire early every evening."
"I know, Pharel, I know. You of all people know that the timelines between these dimensions are nearly impossible to line up correctly. And if it's any comfort, I'm up before noon," she replied with a mischievous little gleam in her eye. "How are things there at the tower?"
Pharel did his best to suppress a yawn to answer, pulling his night robes closer around his well-built, warrior frame. "Same as usual. We all miss your cooking, and Mori nearly killed us all with food poisoning last week."
Jalin rolled her eyes. "Why am I not surprised?"
"You really ought to call on your official lover instead of me whenever you decide to check in, Jalin," he said with a hint of a chastising tone.
She had to smile. "I would, but a few words exchanged with you gives me as much information as a whole day's banter with him. I can already tell that he is still out drinking and won't return to the refuge of the Blackwind Tower for several hours yet. That twinkle in your sleepy eye says that he is in the company of that fiend he calls a drinking buddy that I despise."
Pharel snickered. "Am I that easy to read?"
"Yes. Go to bed."
"Fare thee well, Jal. Stay out of trouble."
Another tap on the glassy surface brought up other scenes, where Jalin caught up on some other news at other corners of the Underground. Last on her list of people was, of course, Jareth.
After tap, however, all she found were a group of frantic goblins running about his throne room with no Goblin King to be found. "Hm... I know the spell should have come to whatever room he's in, wherever he is in the Underground..." she thought aloud.
Which caught the attention of a goblin running by. "AH! Lady Jalin!" it squeaked upon its recognition of the figure in the mirror that suddenly appeared in the throne room. After a hasty and sloppy bow, the goblin went ahead and explained what happened before she even had to ask. "Magic show went wrong! King Jareth disappeared! He not here no more!" Before he could say anymore, another goblin ran straight into him, sending both sprawling on the stone floor.
"Tch." A wave of her hand dispelled the enchantment on the mirror, bringing back its original reflection of the lady mage standing in the middle of her slightly-unkempt bedroom. "I swear by Dentin, that Goblin King will be the last of me."
She slipped on a pair of simple shoes and a light jacket before opening the drawer of the nightstand, where she took out a crystal identical to those Jareth produce. In matter of fact, it did originally belong to said Goblin King at one point, but Jalin had a way of convincing kings to part with some of their possessions. Breathing a little of her own magic into the crystal orb, she let the sphere drop onto the carpet and watched it start rolling on its own in small circles. After it had oriented itself, it rolled surprisingly to her apartment window, clinked against the drywall once, then twice, then mustered up the courage to deny gravity its power over it and scaled vertically up the wall and onto the sill. Before the orb had a chance to take its chances against the glass of the window, Jalin lunged and managed to push the frame upwards enough for the crystal to roll comfortably outside.
The sphere seemed to gleam thankfully at her for the favor.
"You're welcome," she replied with a roll in her eyes.
As the crystal rolled even further over the ledge, it decided that gravity could have its way once more, and it fell downwards towards the sidewalk and street outside....
((More of the Blackwind Tower will get explained later, just in case everyone is curious. However, the Tower and the rest of its inhabitants are not important to this particular RP.
Second post coming soon from me for Hoggle's POV.))

Hoggle found himself standing uncomfortably close to Jareth after his world finished spinning around him at a sickening pace. One of the first differences, however, was that he no longer came up to the Goblin King's crotch, but his chin instead. After initial gasps had taken place, he looked down to realize that his hands were no longer oversized, gnarled, and characteristic of dwarves, but rather smooth and proportional to the rest of his body. With these new hands, he felt his face and did not find the same leathery skin riddled with random wrinkles, bumps, and hairs. In its place was a more human face, free from the blemishes that most Fae and humans find revolting.
That's when the truck drove by and covered them with a cloud of exhaust.
"Nots that I ever seen a truck before, but I'se do think that been one of 'em," he replied to Sir Didymus' question. Sadly, Hoggles raspy voice stayed with him.
He also noticed that the others around him had also gone through a similar transformation. Didymus was nearly Jareth's height with a head full of red hair with an occasional tuft of white. One eye was still covered in an eye patch. Ludo still towered over them all, a face that still conveyed blissful ignorance underneath a bushy head of brownish hair. Jareth, well, looked the same.
Instead of stating the obvious on the fact that they all seemed to have evolved to nearly Jareth's level and his castle suddenly went missing, he decided to venture out a small distance, poking his head out from the alleyway. What he found was a street of horseless carriages wandering on paved paths, lined with buildings on all sides stretching up to the sky.
"Wow..." he whispered to himself as he took in the urban sights and not realizing that his feet started leading him further and further out of the alley. Since the Underground was a place where pedestrians could walk easily in the middle of a road, being there was a particular lack of carriages compared to pedestrians, he was about to step off the curb and into traffic to get a better view. However, he was brought back to reality when a taxicab whizzed by just in front of him, horn blaring and slave to the Doppler Effect. The startle send Hoggle flying back to land on his rear end, and not a moment later did a familiar crystal fall right into his lap.
"Um, yer majesty? I thinks this belongs to you."

Sarah had just finished applying the rest of her blush when she heard "The Howling" faintly in the other room. She dropped her compact and brush and ran to the other room. She grabbed her cell and flipped it open.
"Hello?" She asked, on the other end was her brother.
"Sarah? Hey, did I wake you? Sorry-" Sarah cut him off
"What do you want now?" She asked teasing. She could almost hear him blush. This was probably about a girl at school.
"Well, it's not about that girl, if that's what you're thinking." Sarah didn't like this. She then thought that her step-mother was going to nag her threw poor Toby again.
"Well, what is it?" He gulped. He didn't want to tell her.
"I uh...I...I...."
She was getting frustraited. She looked at her watch and hurried Toby up.
"Toby dear, I have really no time. I have to get to class."
He finally spit it out. "I acidently lost your book."
"What?!" He jolted. "Which one?" She asked almost growling.
"Uh, uh, your Labyrinth book, gotta go bye!" He spatted quickly and hung up.
With this in her head now, she was not only furious but, was going to be late to class. She grabbed her bag and her jacket slipped her shoes on and ran down the hall of her apartment building. She then ran back to lock the door making sure she had her keys.
'I knew I should've taken all my books with me, but Toby was so attached...'
She kept thinking as she speed walked her way to the university. Her professor was going to be mad if she was more than 2 minutes late. So she quickened her step. Her breath got heavier. She glanced at her watch again.
'I've got 5 minutes before the bell. Can I make it? Probably not'
She then broke into a run. She flew into the building and into the auditorium. As soon as her foot was in, the bell rang.
"Well well, you decided to be barely on time today, but on time none the less." Her professor noted. She nodded and sat down near the front of the stage. "Now, if you will..."
He droned and she began to daydream.
'On time, on time...'

((Pardon the tardiness. I've been rather busy of late.))
Didymus was kneeling before Ambrosius, giving the canine comforting strokes along his back when he heard Jareth utter that he was not responsible for this rather untimely excursion.
"If it was not you, milord, who brought us to this new kingdom, then how did we get here?" the fox asked, punctuated with a whine from the sheepdog.
Jareth displayed his annoyance by pacing back and forth, clutching his chin with a gloved hand. "Those little scabs putting on a show managed to steal some of my magic. That is how we all ended up here."
"Um, yer majesty? I think this belongs to you."
Jareth paused in his pacing at the sound of Hoggle's raspy voice. His gaze instantly homed in on the shining object nestled comfortably in the humanoid-Hoggle's crotch. Indeed, the crystal orb beckoning to him at one time belonged to him, but instead of the misdeeds that took it from him, his thoughts focused on the hope it was to bring.
"Well," the Goblin King chirped with a little too much cheer in his tone. "Despite the circumstances, I believe we might just have found a way home."
Didymus blinked with the eye not concealed with the patch in slight disbelief. "Verily, are you saying that we do not have a venue to return?"
"We do now," he said as he bent down and picked up the crystal, bringing it up for a toss and a showy juggle. However, the crystal did not glide over his gloved hands as they usually did, rolling humorously over his finger tips to clink to the concrete sidewalk. what little magic that was left in it, however, prevented it from rolling down the street, but uphill and back to the king, where it happily bumped against the toe of his boot.
"I was afraid of that," he sighed.

Liv hid a snicker in her hand as she watched Sarah go past where she was sitting, a few rows back and on the aisle of the auditorium. She expected Sarah to give her the usual "just made it" grin, but her friend's expression was different this morning. Liv studied it for a moment, and then resumed her notetaking on the lecture. Sarah will ask for the notes later, I know it, she told herself.
After a few minutes though, she found her interest drawn back to Sarah. True, Sarah was known to get lost in her thoughts during classes- especially during this course- but something about her was off this morning.
Ripping a piece of paper out of her notebook as quietly as she could, Liv scribbled down the words, OK, spill. You look like you're pondering the mystery of the universe. Meet me after class and tell me what's up. She then folded it into a small square and, with the ease that comes with lots of practice, carefully tossed it forward. She held her breath, but released it when it bounced off Sarah's forearm and onto her blank paper. She was getting too good at this, but she reasoned that it would still be a useful skill in the future, when she would be stuck in production meetings in the theaters she would be working at.
Then, having lost interest in the lecture herself, she began to doodle on a blank piece of paper, once again designing what she called her faerie tales collection- elaborate and beautiful dresses, or sophisticated and classic men's pieces, all with hidden details. Sighing to herself, she rested her hand on her chin for a moment, wishing that she could just go away from college for a bit... maybe go to a place where the clothes she wanted to wear were what everyone else was wearing, and where she could meet dwarves and princes and faeries...

Sarah snapped out of her day-dream when she felt something hit her arm. She looked down to her notebook and found a folded sheet of paper. She looked around and carefully unfolded it.
"OK, spill. You look like you're pondering the mystery of the universe. Meet me after class and tell me what's up."
She knew it was from Liv. She looked back and gave her a smirk. She wrote back.
"Nothing really, my brother called me and said that he lost my book. I also had a weird dream. So, yeah, I'll meet you after class. How about a coffe to go with it? I'll buy."
She folded it up and tossed it back. It hit Liv in the forehead. She looked back and mouthed, 'Sorry' and tried not to laugh. She then wrote another note.
Can I have you notes? I have nothing on my paper. luv you.
She tossed that one over her shoulder before the professor noticed anything. The professor looked at her and then shruged. He knew she was a excellent actress but couldn't seem to figure out why her head was caught in the clouds so much.
Sarah went back to day-dreaming rather quickly. She didn't really know what was wrong, but she had a distinct feeling that she would soon find out.
