Georgina's Profile

Name: Georgina Bethany Bonney
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Unsure. I'll just be safe and say bisexual.
Species: Human (Dream-corrupt)
Any Children?: Not technically, but I've taken care of Ollie for close to three years. He's like a son and a brother and a pet all in one.
About Me:
I am Georgina, here me roar! Okay, well, I wouldn't actually roar, but I'm happy that I am myself. Here are some tidbits about me: I walk on tiptoe whenever I'm not wearing shoes, I have a mild obsession with elephants and goldfish, I hate driving and cars, I think most reptiles are cute, and I can be pretty blunt when I'm talking. Sometimes I can get a little touchy-feely, and if I consider you a friend, I'm more apt to greet with a hug than just a hello. To earn my daily bread, I run an antique shop in Durem, with the store on the first floor of my building and my living-space up above it. There is also a hole in my head that you can see daylight through, just for fair warning. I think that should be it...
Hobbies:
Just about everything under the sun. No, really. The stuff I do most frequently in my spare time would be reading, knitting, and kite-flying. I cook, too, but even if I'm good at it, it's mostly because I have to make my own meals and not out of pleasure.
Talents:
I can sing a bit, but that's mostly for in the shower and when Ollie has trouble falling asleep and needs a lullaby. Oh, and I can make a mean pot of chicken alfredo.
Looking For:
A guy (or even a girl) that can put up with me and to share some good times. Perhaps even someone to settle down with and have children, but I'm not gonna aim too high. Dating services are dodgy like that.
Other
I haven't had the time or the motivation to actively get into the dating scene before. Whoever is out there, go easy on my ignorance!

Important facts:
- Normal humans sometimes have trouble seeing her, as if she was on the other side of a fogged window or a pane of frosted glass. Supernatural entities that are not Dream-based but not human either have no such trouble, and of course neither do actual denizens of Dream.
- Slightly gross thing ahead: The hole in her head (made by a gunshot, more on that in the next post) healed up similar to the way a pierced ear heals, as a tube of scar tissue that goes all the way through. The bullet passed through her hearing apparatus on the right side, however, leaving her completely deaf.
- Georgina talks with a faint British accent, mostly reflected in her vocabulary and pronounciation of random words, which is kind of weird considering she has never been to England.
- VIRGIN. FLAMINGLY SO.
- Sort of a sucker for old-fashioned romance, Georgina gets gooey at the prospect of flowers and chocolates and candelit dinners, all kinds of cliche things like that.

Georgina was, up until about seven years ago, a simple fluffhead girl who was bullied in school because she was "weird", according to the ever-knowledgeable everyone. She eventually couldn't take it any longer and tried to put a bullet through her head with her father's in-case-of-burglars revolver, but she timed it strangely: it was the seventh day of the seventh month of a year that ended in seven, not to mention the seventh hour of the night, and all those sevens meant something special.

While Georgina had a headache afterwards, and a messy hole in her head, she lived, and the sevens made it interesting and tainted her being with Dream, the amorphous force that plays upon the subconsciouses of the sleeping and stimulates the imaginations of the waking. This did not make Georgina anything more than aware of the pure-Dream entities that walk around as invisible to most people. No strange powers or drastic changes in appearance/personality resulted; she refers to the incident as her trepanning.

As soon as she sat up and saw the bloody mess she had made on the floor, Georgina knew both that something was wrong, and that she'd rather not stay around to explain the business to her parents. She packed up and fled her house, coming to the town of Durem as a refuge. The next three years are her "lost years", which she will not discuss under any circumstances, though when she was nineteen she managed to rent out the flat that would become her antique shop and begin living above it. Aristotle and Ollie came into her life within a few months of her settling, and while her business isn't exactly booming, Georgina makes a fair living catering to both ordinary people and the sentient creatures of Dream. The strangeness of her life doesn't bother her in the least.

Aristotle - A creature that's something of a cat and something of a lizard, Aristotle showed up in the empty flat that would become Georgina's antique shop one day and "adopted" her as a caretaker. He, or at least Georgina assumes that he's a he, likes eating mice and stealing wallets. Not the cliche of shiny things, wallets. Though he doesn't look like much, Aristotle has basic reading ability and, if need be, can scratch out simple, grammatically flawed messages with his claws.

Ollie (Oliver Nicodemus Claude) - Twelve feet tall, bright pink fur, totters around on two not-proportional bow legs? That would be Ollie. Georgina found him, a cat-sized ball of fluff, in a cardboard box in an alley three years ago. His enormous size baffles her and anyone who's met him before he shot past the three foot mark. Since he can no longer fit down the narrow hallways of Georgina's flat, his room is the area that used to be a garage. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, Ollie is nevertheless good-natured and gentle and also useful for lifting heavy objects. He can get a little overprotective of Georgina, and goes into what she calls ruefully "cockblock mode" whenever he spies her associating affectionately with strangers.

Perr Bartleby - A family friend, so to speak, Perr's been hanging around with Georgina for over a year now. He's a bit of a swinger in just about every sense of the word, and goes around with a new girlfriend (or boyfriend) about every other week. His origins are interesting: his mother is a huldra, a Scandinavian forest spirit, and his father happens to be an entity of Dream, which is not so fantastical as it sounds because Mr. Benjamin Bartleby, however strange he appears, is a secretary in the confusing ladder of the bureaucracy of Dream. Perr is not very much like his father, and seems to be estranged from him for various reasons. He probably would have carried on a fling with Georgina had Ollie not swatted him across the room at first sight of his schmoozing.

Korini (Korinoki Sa'meyan Ingsa) - A young lady that befriended Georgina during her lost years. She's one of the Aruktai'i, which aren't Dream-based at all but on the threshold of supernatural, with animal-like physical traits and some rudimentary powers of precognition. Her visits are infrequent, but she's well-liked by everyone but Perr, who is uneasy in her presence.

Georgina has a habit of picking out interesting things from her antique shop and arranging them around her living space. These geisha dolls are just one example.

Dream, which is capitalized to distinguish it from ordinary dreams, is an enigmatic force, previously mentioned as something that produces the hallucinations one experiences while sleeping and stimulates human imagination while awake. It is something more than just a giver of visions; ancient cultures revered it, even named it as the creator spirit, which is giving it a bit too much credit but still, Dream is rather important. It is the ephemeral and the chancy, the source of everything which cannot be measured, only observed firsthand and then related to others that way. It seems to have a will and a consciousness all its own, though few who get direct orders from Dream are taken seriously and most of those are damaged in the process of communicating with it anyhow.

Not only is Dream a 'what', but also a 'where'. The world of Dream, inhabited by the populace of that can trace its origins to the collective human subconscious, is something of an alternate reality. Time moves slower in Dream, and so far it's only ventured up to the technological and cultural equivalent of the 1920s. Dream and the world humans perceive are closely connected, and it is possible to pass from one to the other through what are commonly called Thin Places, where strong emotion connects to thought and forms a weakening in the barrier between the two. A common Thin Place is under a child's bed or in a closet, where monsters are believed to lurk, and in various bodies of water, preferably clean ones.

The denizens of Dream are sometimes recognizable as predecessors of folkloric figures, such as the Jungian wise sage, innocent child, earth mother, and so on, but mostly they are strange hodgepodges of subconscious imagination. As imitations of human experience, creatures of Dream mimic human behavior, from forming their own bureaucracy to the process of sexual reproduction, but their physical resemblance to mankind is, at best, iffy. A denizen of Dream could never blend in to a crowd of everyday people without an elaborate disguise, and vice versa.

In relation to genuine magic, Dream is compatible but not quite the same. Creatures of Dream have what could be deemed "magical" abilities, but never anything that defies the laws of physics or is without biological side effects. Magical entities that coexist with humans, though rare nowadays, are even genetically compatible with some types of Dream denizen, and a rogue Dreambeast's union with an attractive monster will now and again produce odd mixes of offspring, though the practice is discouraged since hybrids tend to range in personality from psychopathic to emotionally stunted to just plain socially inept. Dream itself spins new entities into being haphazardly and randomly, and the majority of Dream citizens are formed in such a way. It extends its influence to the human world with some association with the number seven, whether in time or address or other such thing, and the any human life directly touched by Dream is admittedly never the same afterwards.

Mixes of Dreambeast and human are not very often through hybridization, which has never occurred in any record in the Dream bureaucracy, no mean feat since the enormous library of files has materials that go back hundreds of years on just about any subject imaginable (the library itself is so vast and so badly organized that the librarians carry signal flares in case they get lost). Instead, Dream itself extends an interfering force into the life of a human being, in birth, in death, or in a near-death experience, and "taints" him or her with the essence of Dream, enabling recognition of Dream denizens in disguise or in their accustomed invisibility and also giving the person the option of becoming a proper Dreambeast if they ever cross over. It also has the uncanny ability of restoring the dead to life, though the death-blow, whatever it was, will always remain visible somehow.
