I have a 65 Alliance Pally on a PvP server, who I eventually want to get to 70 and raid. But my friend decided a while back to transfer his hunter (who I was going to raid with) to a PvE server. So now he's in a Gruul's clearing/SSC attempting guild. He said I can get an inv if I transfer over. So, the main question is should I transfer over? I've been on PvP servers my whole WoW time. The only bonus I see is that I won't get ganked while leveling. I'm just wavering about transferring because I usaully see all the best PvE guilds on PvP servers.

pve servers just dont have random chaos like pvp does

I am on a PvE sever, and I like it. Everyone is different though. You could try checking out the forums for the server you're considering and check out the website for your friend's guild to see if people seem friendly, progression is where you want it, the guild rules are ones you can live with, etc.

You just have to remember that if you transfer to a PVE realm you can never transfer back to PVP.

Might be worth making an alt on that server and getting an idea what PVE servers are like, cause if you transfer and dont like it, you're pretty screwed.

This is definitely worth remembering.
Our MT transferred his gnomey warr out to a PVE and realised, "What the hell did I just do?!"
Now he's a draenei warr and back where be belongs. smile

I prefer pve, but thats because I'd rather pvp when I choose to. I'd rather I didnt have to put up with getting ganked out of nowhere, I prefer to submit myself to daily gankfests where the honour is decent and I can get decent gear for killing other players my own level.
Course if someone flags near me and I believe I have a chance of winning, I'll engage. If I lose, ah well. Good job to them.

But yeah, definetely make an alt, run it to a city and ask people what they think about the server. Better than picking a server randomly, leveling it up to 40 (a good amount of hours wasted) and realize you hate the server.

pve servers suck. The only advantage you have will be not getting ganked. The disadvantage is that you can never go back and most pve servers harbor awful players and bad progression. before anyone says anything, yes I know there are multiple successful guilds on pve servers.

I played on Whisperwind which is a PvE server for almost 2 years now and loved every minute of it. But since my guild basicly threw me to the side I rerolled a tauren shaman on a PVP server and I enjoy it a lot more. Makes it more exciting and more real. Would a Orc warrior totaly obliterate a gnome mage while he came upon him whilst he was herbalizing on some Briarthorne? I'd like to think he would. 3nodding

I've been on a PvE server my entire WoW life, so I can't really say which is better, but I think it's mostly based on opinion and preference anyway. BGs and Arena's pretty much fill my need to PvP. Though if I ever wish to experience the chaos of a PvP server, I'll PvP flag myself while I'm farming and hope someone is around to gank me.

PvE servers (or as they are also known: 'Happy Frolic Land Severs') generally harbour more e-family guilds and younger players. PvP servers tend to have more serious minded players and better progressed raiding guilds.

Before you flip out, take note of the vague general terms I used. Obviously exceptions are out there.

I have three toons in outlands on PvP servers, while I play my alts on PvE to hang with my family and real life friends. What it boils down to is what you like, and what's fun for you. Bacchant already gave you some great advice, take that to heart.

I have only played on pve servers until recently, when I met a kid at school who played. He was on PvP so i rerolled a troll hunter on his server. So far I wouldn't say I like it anymore or less.. I love the thrill of ganking, and I hate the chill of getting ganked.. Especially when you have to win against the guy in a war of attrition over who can wait longer for you to respawn in the middle of a quest..

PvP servers are so much more fun. Playing and lvling a character on a PvP server really teaches you how to play your class well, because you always need to watch your back and react when something comes up.

On a PvE server you go to ashenvale at 70 and you're going to be borde out of your skull, riding around on your epic mount in all your gear and its not going to mean anything to anyone. Go to ashenvale on a PvP server and no tell whats going to happen or who you'll come across.

Do yourself a favor and don't go to a PvE server, they are for wimps who are too scared to spend 30 seconds walking back to their body because OMG the big mean person ganked me.

I agree that PvP servers can be great learning experiences, but I disagree that PvE servers are for wimps who are too scared to do anything. After all, going to Ashenvale at level 70 looking to gank lowbies doesn't exactly strike me as brave.

I'm on a PvE server, and I love it. It doesn't mean I don't PvP at all. I still do arena, battlegrounds, and the occasional PvP raid, but I also have the freedom to do other things.

Either way, it's an opinion. There are different options out there because people prefer different things. It's pretty rude and narrow minded for you to put down an entire group of people just because they prefer something different than you.

I never said anything about going to ashenvale and ganking people being quality pvp, I only used it as an example, and the extent of my contact with the alliance being /wave doenst strike me as being brave either.

Its rude but I cant take anyone seriously as a player if they can't handle the scare of getting ganked or god forbid fighting someone one on one.

Its just how I am, if you don't like it its not my problem.

And I can't take anyone seriously as a player if they have nothing to contribute to conversations and the game except rudeness. I find that the rude people are rarely good players, and even when they are, no one wants them around because they have such horrible personalities, so they rarely get into decent guilds. Maybe if you weren't so rude, you could do something better than gank lowbies in Ashenvale.

You don't seem to know much about PvE servers, statistics, or logic if you make claims like that about entire groups of people. Yes, people on PvP servers are often good because of all the practice they get, but that doesn't mean they're all good. And it doesn't mean they're better than PvE people or that everyone on a PvE server sucks or is a weenie. Some people on PvE servers kick the crap out of people from PvP servers in arena and battleground. Some people on PvE servers walk around flagged all the time. There are people on PvE servers with more kills than people on PvP servers.

Keep in mind that making claims about entire populations gives you the same logic as a racist. There's always going to be exceptions, so when you make claims about everyone without using words like "most" or "many," you're just going to end up being wrong.
