So I go to Spotlight Music today because I'm thinking about buying a new guitar. And I found a really pretty one that Is perfect in pretty much everyway. It's an acoustic from a Canadian company called Art & Lutherie. It's pretty cheap as far as acoustics go and it plays beautifully. So I think I'm gonna buy it but I decided to check in with my parents first right? Cuz it's a big investment, even for $280. So I call my mom and she flips out and says I don't need another guitar and that I should really think about it because I might buy it and decide I don't want it. But the thing is is that I do want it. At any rate she's all on my case for "throwing my money away." Here's the guitar I want by the way in case you were interested: Guitar. Does anyone else have over-bearing parents like this or is it just me?

I guess my question is, do you already have an acoustic guitar, Monk? If you do, I see no reason to buy another one as you cannot play two at once. If you're really wanting this new one, think long and hard as to whether or not you'd sell the other one to buy this one. If the answer is "no" than I would not buy it. Due to not having equal time on both guitars. I can see where your mother is coming from in this area. If you already have a guitar similar to this, why would you need another? sweatdrop

Well a couple things Kita. One: I have an acoustic but it's not mine. It's my cousins and he comes out this summer and will take it home. So I temporarily own it. Two: You probably wouldn't see any reason but when you play an instrument that your into you just want more, this is particularly so with guitarists. My friend has 11 guitars, I don't own many and even if I have one that works fine that doesn't mean I don't want another. Plus every guitar plays a little differently.

Alright, I can see where you're coming from about instruments. Each one will play a little differently, though, that amount for a guitar does still seem a bit much. Your collection is a bit more practical and has a purpose, I suppose. Plus, since your cousin is going to claim his/her guitar back, I see no reason why your parents flipped out like that. I can understand you wanting an acoustic guitar of your own.

Well it's pretty cheap compared to ones I looked at. And acoustic guitars have a little more value than electric guitars in my opinion.

Well whenever someone's trying to look cool and hip they play guitar and college students especially advocate the acoustic guitar and grow little soul patches to look "Hip."

Well yes and no. It makes guitar seem over-rated and creates a lot of guitarists who play for maybe two weeks for the looks and then stop.

I know exactly where you are coming from. My boyfriend plays guitar all the time and always wants more, because each guitar is different and does sound different and plays different.
Honestly, I think that you have a legit reason for getting the guitar.
