Full Name: Akram Mercier
Age: 24
Birthday: January 11
Physical Description: About 5'8" tall, broad-shouldered, and overall very sturdy-looking. His hair is black and long in the front, but the rest is cut much shorter, though it is generally hidden under a red cloth headwrap. Akram has bronze-colored skin, which is weathered a bit by spending a lot of time outside, making him look perhaps a little older than he is. His eyes are green, and below them, Akram has golden marks like tears running down his cheeks and neck, and partway down his chest. He comes from a far-off land that is mostly desert, and, while Akram is interested in learning about this part of Gaia, he generally prefers dressing in his native and more exotic attire.
History: The Mercier family was a notable clan of merchants in Akram's homeland, and had been for quite sometime. Several very powerful mages also came out of the bloodline at a point in the distant past. The patriarch of the time decided to try to strengthen the magical bloodline, however, which resulted in a tradition of inbreeding that lasted several generations. Their magic did not get stronger, though, and instead, a genetic disorder tied to the Mercier magic developed instead - when spellcasting, the caster would periodically lose control of the raw power, resulting in various serious and often fatal injuries. Other people started to regard it as a curse of some sort, since the disorder claimed the lives of so many of the Mercier magic users, reducing their numbers, their wealth, and their influence. Akram is already the patriarch of the clan at the age of 24, though he still often defers to his grandmother's wisdom in family affairs. The woman is also determined to train Akram in the use of his magic herself; Akram wants nothing to do with the magic in his veins, and that is a large part of why he left home in favor of coming to school for business.
Personality: Akram is a fairly adaptable person, and also a natural-born leader. So far, his only experience as a leader has been as family patriarch, though, and dealing with the rest of his family - older woman and younger siblings, primarily - has made him into a sort of humorless, no-nonsense sort of man. Coupled with the natural pessimism that developed in him from a young age with the knowledge that he was all too likely to die before he had a chance to continue his family line, Akram often comes off as blunt, cranky, and bored with the world. He is a skilled businessman, though, at least in the sense of the bartering and dealing he is used to. As far as raising children on his own, though... well, we have yet to see.

Full Name: Crispin Michael Ashford
Age: 19
Birthday: July 16th
Physical Description: Tall (around 5'10-5'11) and slender, although he's also well-muscled and athletic. He's got longish black hair, silvery-blue eyes, and pale skin. His hair is always styled impeccably, although in one of those stylishly tousled styles...and he rarely, if ever, appears rumpled or dirty.
History: Crispin's family has always been well-off, and his parents are rather distant, preferring to ignore the less pleasant aspects of parenting. Growing up, Crispin spent more time in the care of a series of nannies than he did in the company of either of his parents. However, it was still made clear, even in the earliest of his memories, that he was always expected to behave with the utmost decorum.
His junior year of high school was spent at Aquila, a boarding school known for it's outstanding academics, along with a multitude of top-notch sports teams. His parents always put a lot of pressure on him to not just excel, but to be the very best, and so everything he's ever been enrolled in or allowed to do has been geared solely towards that goal.
For the first time, because they lived too far away from the campus to commute, he was living away from the direct influence of his parents in his day-to-day life, and while it was a difficult adjustment at first, he was less than thrilled when his parents, without explanation, transferred him back to a school closer to home his senior year. It was in this frame of mind that when it came time to choose his college, he picked one far enough away from his parents' residence that commuting would be impossible--hence the move, and his current location of residence.
Personality: Outwardly, he's the epitome of social grace--cool, composed, and a positively a**l perfectionist. Inwardly, he's rather insecure, has a difficult time actually connecting with others, and is easily thrown off balance, although he does his best to stem his less than perfect urges, and has become quite skillful, by this time, at masking his inner insecurities, as it's been a rule with his parents that he should maintain his dignity at all times, and that the loss of his cool, unflappable facade is intolerable.
