Indigo children refers to children who, according to believers in the New Age movement, represent a higher state of human evolution. New Age belief holds that such children have paranormal abilities, such as the ability to read minds. The term itself is a reference to the belief that such children have an indigo colored aura.
According to New Age beliefs Indigo children are highly sensitive with a clear sense of self-definition and a strong feeling that they need to make a significant difference in the world.
They are empathic and can easily detect or are in tune with the thoughts of others, and are naturally drawn to matters concerning mysteries, spirituality, the paranormal and the occult, while opposing unquestioned authority and contradictory to convention.
They are also said to feel a strong sense of entitlement.
Some beliefs hold that they are often labeled with the psychiatric diagnoses of Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and also Autism, and that they become unsociable when not around other Indigo Children.
They are also believed to be prone to depression and sleep disorders such as insomnia and persistent nightmares

I've actually delved into this topic a bit, myself.
That's where I derived my name, Ranten_Ko-
It means 'Indigo Child'.
^_o; ...kind of scary that you'd have a thread based on it, really.
There is so much information about Indigo Children,
it's hard to absorb it all coherently.
I'm far from an authority of knowledge regarding it, so if I have some questions,
do you mind if I post them in your lovely thread?

You know, there was a video game based on this. Indigo Prophecy. It's a personal favorite of mine. Very story driven.

I wouldn't say creepy- so much as just inevitable. Evolution isn't static. Studies reveal human DNA has undergone a 7% recent rapid evolution. I mean, Asian DNA is repressing body odor and ear wax at the genetic level!!! he he
So,, you put this many people together in one place- offer them the world and access to incredible knowledge...cool things happen. Especially to the younger generation- who pick up things SO FAST!
I haven't seen that video game...but I will! Thanks!

I've known a couple of people who claim to be Indigo Children. They were both nuts. One of them was just looking for anything that would empower them and give them an excuse to think they was some hot stuff. They also thought they knew martial arts, despite the fact that they got the tar beaten out of them by a guy weighing half as much as them. If you look at the traits, it sounds like they're just profiling people who are prone to flights of fancy, and therefore, willing to believe. Also note that a significant portion of this generation has been diagnosed with something or another.
I once filled out a form that was supposed to test whether or not I was had a high probability of being an Indigo Child, and I tested positive for almost all of the questions. I was instantly suspicious. I do feel like an alien, and I do feel like I can't socialize with most people, but it doesn't make me a different sort of being. Maybe I just have a different concept of human socialization, which is hardly surprising considering I have Aspergers Syndrome. (A very high functioning brand of Autism.) I would encourage everyone to approach the matter as a skeptic, and not as a starry-eyed theorist- even though it is very hard to do this, especially if you are (like me) exactly the sort of daydreamy person that Indigo Children are supposed to be. Also note that even the paranormal can occur among people that are completely normal.

I researched "Indigo Children" a while back and even joined an "Indigo Adults" group on yahoo. I'm definitely an Indigo Child. However, Indigo Children (of which there has been a birth boom from the early eighties on... even though there have been some born before the eighties) are actually just the beginning of a revolutionary evolution in mankind. The next phase are the Crystal Children - (most born in early nineties and later) - who are destined to be great world leaders and scientists that will change the world with their revolutionary insight and touch with the higher plane (sort of like Nirvana). Many Indigo Children are the type that will be searching for a deeper meaning to religion and study different faiths in search for their own spirituality because they feel what they were reared to believe in doesn't quite fit. These are the kids that will stand out in arts, music, unconventional science, avant-guard thinking, etc. These kids are paving the way for the new millennium and the Crystal Children who will take it to an entirely new world.
