The noon-time sun hung high in the sky as a seemingly radioactive green Shikoku raced through the surf of an empty beach. Lithe and agile, he darted between the surges of the water, laughing merrily like a small child.
Every so often, he would stop for a moment and allow the waves to creep between his paws. When this happened, he would flutter his wings lightly and then resume his running. After having crossed the shore over a dozen times, the male sat down, panting slightly.

((XD that's cool where the title is from.))
Maeko walked slowly towards a beach that she had frequented before. It was peaceful there, just watching the water was serene enough. She would stand at times near the water's edge upon the sand as her paws were lightly splashed. It was fun until all that sand stuck to her.
The orange Shikoku's eyes widened a little when she noticed another already at the beach, she thought it would be vacant like it usually was when she went. She took in the appearance of the quite bright Shikoku, all that green like how she was all orange.
She walked closer to the sitting Shikoku, smiling. It had been a while since she had been in the company of another, she missed it so. "Hello there." Reaching the other, she sat down a few feet from him.

((Heh. Thanks. I always have a hard time finding titles for things, so I read your journal post for Maeko to get ideas and that said that her name meant "Truthful child," so I just kind of stuck their two meanings together. XD))
It was common knowledge, to Dokuiro at least, that he came by this shoreline almost everyday. And in all of these comings, he had never found the beach anything but deserted.
As you can imagine, he was quite surprised when he suddenly found himself not quite alone any longer. A female voice startled him out of his thoughts as its owner took a seat next to him.
Turning to see the new female, Dokuiro responded cheerfully while his keen eyes observed the newcomer. "Hi to you too! I don't think I've ever seen you before .... Is this your first time to this beach?" She was orange - all orange! Just like how he was green - all green!

((I dislike the title part too XD, it's hard at times.))
She shook her head. "I've been here many times before. It's so peaceful." She sighed, smiling some more. "I have never seen you before either, I do not meet others that often." She looked a little saddened by that, meeting others was lovely and when she was so alone mostly all the time it was disheartening.
"Do you spend a lot of time here?" Her head turned towards the ocean, her orange eyes taking in the slow moving of the water. She climbed back to her paws.

Dokuiro's eyes widened at her response. "Wow! I come here all the time too! I guess we must just keep missing each other!" he exclaimed with a chuckle, amused by the idea of such a bizarre fate.
Turning a little bit more serious, he turned his head to the sea and said with a nod, "Yeah. I come here almost every morning to run through the surf. I like its peacefulness too."
Smiling, Dokuiro returned his green orbs to her and followed her lead, standing up as well. "Say... I'm Dokuiro!" he blurted out, almost as if introductions were an afterthought in his mind.

She listened, nodding ever so slightly as she took in his words. When he told her his name she blinked once. "Dokuiro..." She sounded it out slowly. "That sounds weird." She giggled softly.
Realizing what she had just said, Maeko turned her head away from him feeling embarrassed by her words. I didn't mean it like that, your name is wonderful...I just never heard of anything like it before." Gosh she was making things worse by her every word, why did words pop out of her mouth at times when they were words not needed to be said?
"I'm Maeko." She liked her name, the way it rolled off her tongue. She wondered what he would say about her name now that she sort of insulted his. She truly didn't mean to offend him, if he was offended that is, she did like the name. "You can say whatever you like about it..." Her head still firmly away from him, she couldn't make eye contact now that she may of hurt his feelings.

((OMG BABIES!!!! *runs around wildly*))
At Maeko's response, Dokuiro let out a warm chuckle. It was the sort of laugh that reverberated through his chest so that it become a kind of rumble in the end. Flipping one paw in the air dismissively, he told her with a laugh, "Don't sweat it! I think my name's kinda weird too." "It means that I'm the color of poison," he added as an explanation.
"Maeko, eh?" he repeated after her, rolling her name on his tongue for a minute. "Sounds pretty," he affirmed with a nod. "It sort of reminds me of peaches, though I don't know why," he mumbled with another chuckle.

((They're so great =3.))
When Dokuiro started to laugh, Maeko looked back at him. Confused, why was he laughing? Was he actually okay with what she had said? She couldn't believe it, Maeko shook her head in disbelief.
But hearing his words made it all seem more believable. He was okay with what she had said, he actually was! She sighed, before smiling. "Colour of poision? Really?" She laughed. "My name suppossibly means truthful child. It fits, I've always been honest but I'm not a child anymore."
Maeko was at ease again, happy that he wasn't upset or anything. She worried so much that she offended him and now, she was calm. She toed the sand when he said her name was pretty, she liked her name and all but she still did not think of it as pretty even if she had been told before this that it was pretty..
"Thank you." She whispered, taking a deep interest in the sand. "Peaches? You're like a green apple." It was true, maybe the apples were darker but what else would fit? Maeko had never come across such a bright colour. She moved the sand some more, something white poking out. "You ever collected sea shells before?" She touched the shell lightly with her orange paw.

Dokuiro nodded, smiling. "Yup. Poison. I think it refers to how bright and unnatural my green-ness is." Cocking his head lightly to the side, Dokuiro gained a suspicious gleam in his eye as he said, "Truthful child? You've always been honest? You've never lied before?"
At her sudden quietness, he took to watching her as she toed the sand. "You're welcome," he said quietly but cheerily when she thanked him. Mulling her words around in his head for a thought or two, Dokuiro responded excitedly with, "I'm a green apple? SWEET!"
Now aware that she was digging up a seashell, Dokuiro nodded. "Yeah. I used to collect sea shells and then spread them throughout the island, away from this beach. I made the shells travel," he finished with a grin.

Maeko chanced a glance at Dokuiro, taking in the suspicious gleam of his eyes. "Sometimes the truth can hurt but you should always tell the truth because lying is bad..." She paused. "Once or twice, I try and be honest but there some things I lied about."
"Always was a bad word for it, another lie." She sighed, feeling guilty by her actions. Maeko watched him as he got all excited about looking like a green apple, hearing his excitement made her smile despite her guilty feelings.
She was amazed by how much work he seemed to spend on moving the shells to other parts of the island, she had never even been to every single part before. "I collect them still sometimes, they're pretty and the inhabitants of the temple made them into a necklace for me a long time ago." She touched the shell again with her paw before pushing it back under the sand. "I lost it a long time ago....." She admitted.

Breaking into a silly grin, Dokuiro nodded in a pseudo-solemn way as he said, "Uh-huh. I thought so. No one can go through life without lying." He shrugged and then finished. "It's just necessary in certain circumstances."
When Maeko told him of her lost necklace, Dokuiro gasped softly. A necklace made of shells! How beautiful something like that must be! However, it would also have to be very fragile. He'd had times when he'd simply picked up a shell to have it crumble in his paws. It was always slightly depressing to him whenever that happened - he always somehow felt as though he'd killed it. Voicing these thoughts aloud, Dokuiro seemed a bit more subdued than before.

"Yes." She agreed, nodding. It was true that sometimes lying had to be used but it still didn't make her feel any better about lying. Lying caused her stomach to twist and twist some more into painful knots, well that was what it felt like if that was even possible to feel.
When Dokuiro told her how he felt when a shell crumbled and how he felt like he had killed it, Maeko frowned a little as she took in his apparant quietness. Just a few moments before he was all excited and now he was quiet, it was odd how a few words could change one's entire mood.
"I guess when you do break something that is an object but still living it can be like you killed it." Maeko thought on when she sat down on grass and broke the blades, how she broke off flowers from stems or small branches from trees, or even like Dokuiro-crumbling of seashells.
"I never thought about that like that, but when you put it that way it seems as if we're killing them but I think it's okay what we do. I can't hear their thoughts and nor their voices, they're living but they're silent and well I bet it's appreciated that you feel remorse over it." Maeko doubted her words were words of cheer, maybe she should attempt to chase her tail like she had done before? She reached over and patted him with her right paw, not knowing what else to do.

Absorbing her words silently, Dokuiro nodded. What she said made perfect sense to him. Then again, maybe he was thinking about things too hard - he had a tendency to over-think things when alone. And he was alone most of the time.
Maeko's paw on his paw snapped him out of his thoughts. Mentally scolding himself for making the pretty Maeko worry, Dokuiro flashed a grin at her. "Heh. Sorry about that. I guess I get too caught up in my own thoughts!" he exclaimed, chuckling nervously.
Jumping to his feet, the toxic green Shikoku gave his wings a tiny flutter and bounced slightly in place. "Come on! Let's do something fun!" he suggested, a child-like gleam in his emerald eyes.

How can he get so happy again after all that? She was awfully worried about him and now he was okay once more. She shook her head, laughing a little under her breath but she was still a little worried, she couldn't see how someone could brighten up so fast. But then maybe other Shikoku were able to do that and maybe it was just her who took a bit to be all right again if she found herself saddened over something.
Maeko climbed to her paws again, she must of sat down without realizing it when she had listened to him. "What do you suggest we do?" Hopefully nothing too dangerous, danger and her did not go together well. "Nothing scary though. Unless you really want to, I could handle it." Maeko attempted to pull on a brave face but failed miserably. She just looked apprehensive. "Well maybe." She added.
