I recently had chair auditions. And it sucked. Because I was sick. And my flute was all messed up. I was a 1st before, but now my section leader made me a second. And he knows how much I've improved. So I kind of don't like him now. [/rant]
I had to play two pieces. Then sight read a piece.
Discuss: -Chair auditions. -How much they suck. -What you've had to do for auditions. -Dumb section leaders.

I've had the same chair position ever since they started in 7th grade. xD I'm a senior now. Still second chair. And what's funny is it's always been the same first four chairs from 7th grade too. Everbody hated us when the freshmen were the top four!
But hey, yeah they suck, we have to play a piece, then do all of our scales, and sight read something.
But it's just something that you have to deal with. You want to play the fun music....You have to be able to play good.
My band director has loved me, always will too.
((By the by, I play saxophone))

We have chair auditions...but we play them to a recording machine...i know...it doesnt seem bad AT 1ST!!! but when you get in front of it your nervous as hell. we usually play a piece that he tells us what its over. like the all-district things cause he makes us play em' before he signs that stupid paper to get in. Then anyways...uhh i...am the section leader...basically...but i dont suck.

Yes, they do suck. but since I've become a bassoonist I've really stopped caring about them. We don't even have them at my college. ^_^

I never liked them becuase my band director would do auditions without us realizing, he'd make us play something awnd switch with whoever played better. I thought that there was injustice to this because we never play the same everday day, and I don't think anyone would expect us to. But I think its to motivate us to practice, despite the fact that our middle school and high school was blooming with crazy musicians who are just crazy, I think it made many lazy, believing that they were the best without practice.
I held the position as first chair for two years, in some reasonable view I do; my band director had confirmed to me that I was first chair first then later on he couldn't decide between my rival and I [we both have the same fantastic teacher so yeah]. We'd fight over it and stuff gonk . Now this year I WAS first chair as a freshie, but then challenges started happening, the thing I hate is challenges,, its stupid, i'm so sorry you didn't do great at your audition but that doesn't give you any reason to take over someone's chair they really deserved >>; thats what gets me angry...
For auditions...well I had to play this one etude for my chair auditions in january. But
for outside auditions I've had to play all my major scales, orchestral excerpts, solo pieces [my most famous audition solo piece=mozart's clarinet concerto], and sight read. For a couple auditions i've had to do interviews [for the 'music academy' and i'll be doing one for a music high school next month]

We have scale tests coming up in a while. So I'll practice hard for those. And blow him out of the water. And maybe I'll get my chair back...
Dang I wish we could do challenges! I so would. I would challenge the freshman first. Ugh. Or maybe we can... I dunno.

Our BD doesn't like doing chairs because he doesn't want us to go against each other, so we don't have to do them biggrin . But for district band I'm 1st chair.

We never do chair tests...which kinda sucks...
Our section leader gave the 1st chair to himself and the girl that he likes, even though she kinda sucks. So three of the better players are stuck playing 3rd chair, including me... crying But...I guess it's okay, cause I like low parts and harmony things... xp
But the thing is that when we perform, people hear the 1st clarinets and then they assume that they're the best ones. So they're like, "Eh...if that's how the 1st clarinets sound...then how do the 3rd clarinets sound?!"...and it especially sucks when we go on recruiting things and middle school bands think that... gonk
