Axel sat alone under a large willow tree. He sat hidden behind the long branches and leaves, or at least he thought he was well hidden. He didn't really know. He didn't really care. Axel didn't really carw about much anymore.
Sighing, the red head pulled his legs closer to himself and closed his eyes. He just felt so alone and confused. Felt...he wasn't supposed to feel much of anything, right?

Selaba trotted through the forest carrying a basket in her mouth. Her tail waved happily as she looked around, searching for ber beloved mate. It was Valentine's Day, after all, and she wanted to give him a gift. The basket held her present; a bunch of bright red strawberries and a valentine. It was a classic valentine; a red paper heart with white paper lace around the edges and the words "I heart you." written in large letters on it. Simple but elegent, she had thought.
Her happy musings were interrupted when caught a glimpse of a familiar red-haired figure through the branches of a willow tree. She eagerly bounded toward him, eyes shining with excitement. But when she'd shouldered through the low-hanging branches, she stopped. Axel did not look happy at all. Suddenly worried, she carefully put down her basket and walked up to him.
"Axel? Are you alright?" she asked gently as she approached.

Axel turned to Sel with souless eyes and a weak smile.
"Hey Sela. I'm fine. I've just been thinking and questions things a lot lately. It is no big deal. I'm fine. How are you?" Axel's voice was raspy and weak as he spoke. He rubbed his unkept, even for him, hair and he looked away from his mate.
Even if he said he was fine, it was pretty clear he wasn't. From his voice, to his unkept hair, fatigued look, and skinnier than normal body, something was going on.

Selaba cocked her head, a bit sceptical and even more concerned. She didn't want to see her love so clearly upset like this. She sat down next to him and nuzzled him comfortingly.
"I'm doing well. But what've you been thinking of?" she replied, trying to chose her words carefully. "Maybe I can help you find an anwser to whatever it is you're questioning." She looked up at his face, hoping that it would give her some clues.

Axel looked down at his twiddling fingers. He didn't know if he should really trouble someone, especially someone he cared about, with his own problems.
"Seleba, do you think that someone who has no heart can really love someone? That they can truley care about someone so deeply?"

Selaba had almost forgotten that Axel had told her that he didn't have a heart, and was supposed to be unable to feel emotions. But it was clear that he had not fogotten. It didn't matter to her if he had a heart or not, and she wanted to find out a way to make sure he knew.
"Of course you can! I've had more than enough proof that you can love someone. And who would know that better than I?" She smiled up at him, hoping to ease his mind.

The male sighed as he leaned against the tree trunk, hands covering his face.
"I know, and I believe that what I feel for you is love, but just the thought of having no real heart, and the thought of this probably being some lie, I don't want to believe that. I don't want to go through losing someone close to me again..."

Selaba wasn't sure how to respond to this for a moment, and had to pause to consider what to answer. It was surprisingly hard to talk about love and emotions without mentioning the heart.
"Trust your feelings," she said after a bit. "If they're what you truely feel, and not what someone is telling you that you should feel, then how can they lie to you?"

Axel pondered Sel's words for a moment. He has to admit, they were strong and true words.
"I guess I should learn to trust in my feelings a bit more, and, I should thank you for finding and giving me my heart back."

Selaba smiled again, glad that she'd made her mate feel better. "Speaking of which," she said, then retrieved her basket and handed it to him. The heart-shaped valentine lay prominently on top of the berries.
"I got you a present. Today is a day to celebrate love, after all." She wondered how he would react, considering his recent frame of mind.

"A present?"
Axel smiled as he picked up the card. "It's cute. Did you..." He sentence was left unfinished as he stared the the basket full of berries. As if on cue, his stomache growled with anger since it has been left empty for so long.

Selaba laughed at the audible growl from Axel's stomach. She gestured with her paw at the basket, still giggling slightly. "Go ahead and have some, if you'd like, before you finish that sentance."

Grinning, the fire started grabbed the basket and started stuffing his face as fast as he could. All his focus turned to filling his empty belly. He really did look like some kind of starving animal.
Remembering his unfinished sentence, Axel pounded on his chest to get all the berries down. "oh yeah, did you make that card yourself?"

Selaba grinned, both at the redhead's sudden energy and with pride for her work. "Yup. It's a bit hard without thumbs, but I figured if plently of Namrah can draw and write and such, I can make a card. It just took some time." That was also part of why it was fairly simple; she didn't want to try anything too fancy and mess it up by accident.

Axel gave a sigh of satisfaction as he slouched lazily against the tree.
"Well, you did a great job at at." At that thought, Axel rubbed his hand on his chin. He had nothing to give Sel since he spent most of the days moping and such. 'At damn...'
Then it hit him, with the snap of a finger, Axel leaned down and gave Sel a peck on the cheek.
