Many of you have said that your posts are only a set limit long like a few paragraphs or that you don't exactly know what to put and that's why your posts are short.

Well here is our rp academy. Here we are going to teach you to load your posts with a lot of information. You may think that some information is irrelevant and that the reader doesn't need it, but that's where your wrong.

It doesn't not matter now straight-to-the-point your posts are. It matters what happens before your post is complete.

This Academy is optional, though if you are not doing justice within your posts we will make it Mandatory. You must complete it to continue if the mod's concur that you need assistance with your posts.

Even if you think your posts are good enough. Come!!

So get ready. Give us a sample post and we'll help you work with it. You can even use the post you used for the member application if you want. I noticed some were short.

You have 3 classes to attend. Those classes are listed bellow. Each one will be run by the Knife girls.

Class 1: Scene detailing
Class 2: Character detailing
Class 3: Paragraphing

Class 1: Scene Detailing

The first thing you have to know is that you can put ANYTHING in a scene.
If you don't know what the city you are rping in really looks like, make it up. This isn't supposed to be a documentary on the city. If you want a coffee shop at the end of the block just before a highway intersection, the by all means put one there. If you want a night club surrounded by a graveyard, you can do it although it will probably not be in the center of the city.

The second most important thing is that you have to also think practical. Going back to that Night club surrounded by a grave yard. You need room for the graves so I highly doubt that it's just an easy walk. Most likely it will be in a place surrounded by trees and shrubs and will have only 1 road leading to it, and it might even be a dirt road that's barely visible from the highway. What color the sky is or how many stars are out. The shape of the trees. Animals. You get what I mean.

Scene Detailing. Section 1 : Landscaping
(A roleplay course introduction written by the Respectable Writer J.E. Newlin)

One of the greatest problems with roleplaying today is a lack of scene detailing.

Before we move on let us give you the definition of a scene.

Main Entry: scene Pronunciation: ˈsēn Function: noun Etymology: Middle French, stage, from Latin scena, scaena stage, scene, probably from Etruscan, from Greek skēnē shelter, tent, building forming the background for a dramatic performance, stage; perhaps akin to Greek skia shadow — more at shine Date: circa 1520
1: one of the subdivisions of a play: as a: a division of an act presenting continuous action in one place b: a single situation or unit of dialogue in a play c: a motion-picture or television episode or sequence 2 a: a stage setting b: a real or imaginary prospect suggesting a stage setting 3: the place of an occurrence or action : locale

All roleplays are just this, a play set to words. Like a blank canvas, an artist cannot create a masterpiece without first painting the landscape.
I'll assist with what I am best at here, which is landscaping before turning it over to the other writers.

Landscaping is what you do with the environment around you. Paint the proper picture with the correct time, place and proper look of the area.
Always make sure that the landscape changes as your post does. If you begin the post in a room, make sure to properly describe the room, down to the last detail. Here's an example post for you. We will use the NPC character Average Kai. Kai will start the scene in his apartment, which is in a rundown part of New York in the morning. Observe.

Quote:
Sunlight began to peek through the windows, stirring Kai from his sleep. Sunlight? He thought with a jolt. Bolting upright from the bed he looked at the alarm which was dim, and didn't make out any numbers. "It's the fourteenth!!" he thought, cursing under his breath. Midnight was the cut off for his electricity, hey it's hard being a starving anime artist. He threw off the covers, and exclaimed loudly as his feet hit the linoleum. "@&$*!!!! It's freezing!!!!!". The rundown apartment in which he called home was an efficiency. That means that the heat is also run by the electricity, not gas. He peered at the dingy walls, wondering if they had ever been white. He walked into the "Kitchen", if thats what you can call it. A stove and sink adjoining the bedroom with a strip of counter that was not big enough for anything and two decaying cabinets. Really it was a closet with a window. He looked at the ceiling, where there was a strip of paint that he had tried to clean for 3 days when he first moved in, it was just slightly yellow as opposed to the rest of the whiles. Decades of grease and nicotine buildup ensured that the only thing that would help is a coat of paint, after the first coat was removed. A layer of grease covered the cabinets, and they were sticky to the touch. The window made the already gloomy city seem even more so from the distortion of dust. I should hire a maid. Kai thought, looking around the room and spotting a cockroach. And an exterminator.

Now, first assignment.

Write a paragraph using Average Kai at his job, a Newspaper Stand Attendant, on a street corner near central park in Mid Day.
Next, Try writing a paragraph where Kai walks home at about 9 pm that evening after locking up.

Message these to Otto mule for grading!

Class 2: Character Detailing

DETAIL! DETAIL! DETAIL!

You can put just about ANYTHING in a character. Keeping that in mind, tailor your character to the RP. If certain things aren't allowed, follow those rules. Keep in mind the Creature Appreciation rule and then have your way with your character.

THEY AREN'T ROBOTS, they can feel things even if they are made up. Unless your character really is a robot, then by all means continue. Aside from actually being a type of mechanical being, they need feelings. Explain what they are feeling or how they feel about a subject if necessary. EXPLAIN what they are doing, if they are smoking, how they stand, WHAT THEY ARE WEARING.... or not wearing? And ALSO keep in mind what they are DOING!!!

Just remember the 3 simple rules.

DETAIL! DETAIL! DETAIL!

Before we move on here's the definition of Character

Main entry: char⋅ac⋅ter
/ˈkærɪktər/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kar-ik-ter] Show IPA
–noun
1. the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing.
2. one such feature or trait; characteristic.
3. moral or ethical quality: a man of fine, honorable character.
4. reputation: a stain on one's character.
5. a person represented in a drama, story, etc.
6. a part or role, as in a play or film.

Now going back to the story of Kai and breaking down the paragraph. Everything that is great for character detail will be in bold italic.

Great example of Character detail. So keep that in mind. SLeeping, breathing- EGSISTING- is character detail.

Take the scene you posted for your first asignment and, if you have not done so already, give your character some details. Send your revised post to Otto Mule for grading.

Class 3: Paragraphing

I KNOW that you've been taught in school about paragraphs and how long it needs to be to be considered a paragraph. Well here is our rules on the subject.

3-5 sentences is one paragraph, yet it is not limited to 5. Just remember to break up your paragraph if it starts looking pretty long.

LONG IS GOOD. There is seriously NO way for you to not dish out at least a paragraph if you factor in SCENERY and CHARACTER DETAILS. That's why those are on top.

You can't have a paragraph based of nothing. That is really hard. So have fun with it. YOU CAN DO IT, IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
