I know many of you haven't dated yet, but it is better to learn how to avoid mistakes than make them and learn by experience.

One other thing I want to address is that, while we usually have a topic we will discuss, it is certainly ok to discuss old topics as well. Also you can read and learn about any promotions (like Sister Lucentas) and check up on discussions you might have missed.

Yeah, I'm sad to say that I've never been in a relationship and I'm sorta happy at the same time. It's a stress that I don't need before or during my mission.

You are DEFINITELY right. It certainly is a stress you don't need on your mission!
It was a problem for me and I wish I had your knowledge before I left!

One other thing off the subject...
I believe the scriptures we are to have memorized is now up to date and accurate.

I started single dating very very early. Since I wasn't a member, I didn't think it was wrong. However, looking back, it is easy to see that, unbeknownst to me, the Lord was helping me get out of bad situations. I never would have been in those situations if I hadn't been dating.

Elder Garcia, you are saving yourself from so much trouble, angst, and worry by not single dating before your mission. I am proud of you! exclaim

Yeah, so when it came to dating my parents didn't care one way or the other if I was in a relationship pre mission or not. I just chose for myself that I didn't want the hassles of girls before or during my mission. If I disassociate myself with them now then I can just have fun and not have to worry about keeping them happy. I don't also have to worry about them cheating behind my back when I'm gone. Saturday's Warrior always comes to mind when I think about that...

Yeah...Saturday's Warrior...that Dear John song really used to make me mad on my mission. And it was true, you can't trust a potential mate from so far away, boy or girl. Plus, they should be bettering themselves anyway. If you want to marry a girl you know before your mission, tell her she needs to grow and learn so that you both have grown during that period. If she meets someone else and they get married, good for her. You will be able to find your spouse when you get home. And there shouldn't be a huge rush to marriage like I see in so many LDS homes.
