I was planning on starting this thread after Superbowl XLII, but decided to wait a week or so after most people are no longer caught up in the moment of the Giants big upset.
Anyways. Many people have been saying that this game is arguably one of the best Superbowls ever, if not thee best ever. So I wanted to ask the Guild, where do you think Superbowl XLII rank among the other Superbowls?

It was a close one recent years, I am sure Giants fans can remember the last time they were in the superbowl. That was a fun game but not for them. And at no point did they really have a chance of winning. But other then that I have seen more entertaining games and things along that line before. So I will give that it was entertaining to the end for all those watching but that doesn't make it great. The only reason it was such a big deal was because the annoncers decided that the pats should win and that brady was this great quarterback and that the giants weren't good enough and that eli would crack under pressure. But to be honest Brady is not that good if he can't handle a few hits. Most every qb has had games where they get hit and play through it. Some qb's arn't great because they do get hit so much...so a qb should be measured on what they can do regardless of line not only with a line that doesn't get them any pressure.

Top 5 if not one of the Greatest. It was close to the end with that miracle play. The 4th quarter was the most entertaining but it was a brawl throughout the whole game. Haha.
I dunno. I would go into it more... but... meh.

Top five, maybe number two. The super bowl a few years back, Packers vs. Broncos Favre vs. Elway. That was number one.

Nah, it was great, but not near the greatest. I never doubted the Giants where gonna win. The Best super bowl has to be a little more hopeless for me to like it.

I knew the Giants were gona win too. The only way the Giants could of lost is if Eli screwed up. And he didnt. Badda bah badda bing. smile

I am a Giants fan, and don't take this opinion biased. I have seen many Super Bowls, live or on tape, and this one is no doubt in the top three ever.
But look deeper. In that game, one saw many things. People saw that defense wins Championships. People saw the greatest Super Bowl play and greatest Super Bowl winning drive. People saw excitement from start to finish, with defensive glory and offensive success. People also saw that heart wins games, and can even overcome projected perfection.
...With that, I have to say that this Super Bowl ranks #1. Yes, it comes close to many, but this one was the best. A professional football game is all about winning (for the fans/players/coaches/franchise). But to the viewers at home, it is about entertainment, excitement, success, thrill, and passion. Who likes to see blowouts? This game was down to the wire. Down to player vs player. Down to the very final seconds.
Greatest upset ever? No. Jets over Colts, when the AFL proved they could compete with the NFL. Anyways, many, including me, picked the Giants in this one. This one was not too much of an upset, team vs. team, unless you throw in the "perfection" factor.
Greatest game ever? No. Colts over Giants in the 1958 NFL Championship Game, known as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." (I recommend you watch the tape, it's amazing!)
Greatest defensive performance ever? No. Dallas held Miami to 3 in 1972, and dominated the entire game.
Greatest Super Bowl ever? Yes. Giants over Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. cool

I recommend that if anyone wants to see the best football game ever played (actually known and called by that name, too), then rent or buy the NFL Championship game of 1959. Giants vs. Colts @ the Polo Grounds, and Baltimore (Colts) won in OT.
