In the 1850’s Dorothea Dix toured jails and insane asylums filled with the poor, the orphaned, and the unwanted, all labeled as “insane” and housed together in unheated, unfurnished, and foul-smelling quarters, because, as every one knows “the insane do not feel heat or cold.”
Observe the conditions here at James Polk Almhouse. See the walls stained with blood and feces which sport holes nearly big enough for a child to escape through, the floor that has not been cleaned of the filth of the incapacitated and the comatose for nigh on a month. View the inmates, scarred and terrified, as they huddle together in a vain attempt to collect warmth not afforded to them by their ill-mended, thin-weaved frocks. Note the gaunt, sallow looks of the children abandoned here by their poor parents to lead a life of hunger and horror.
These are the incarcerated of James Polk Almhouse, ignored and beaten by their jailers by turns, always careful to not bring attention to themselves. Fighting to remind themselves they are human in more than mere form. In these conditions do the “patients” learn how to care for others, and how to work together, and how to keep secrets. There is a fine line between madness and genius, after all…

Reason institutionalized-He was found in the forest, attempting to jump from tree to tree, and was actually pretty skilled at it. He was found in the night, when he would freak out from the memories of a lot of blood, and his parents, everyone he knew being slaughtered in front of him

3. Romance is aloud, but keep everything Pg-13, I would say take it to pm, but that would be against the rules of Gaia...so just don't do it.
4. Please no quote towers they are annoying, you will be forgiven the first time, 2nd time warned, 3rd time banned.

Candy sat huddled in the corner of a cell, she wore what looked like an old mans tunic it had once been white but now was brown almost black from soot dirt and grime, her once blonde hair the same color, though her hair was also in one big knot and full of lice and other bugs crawling around it. there was not a splocth of skin anywhere on her body that was not covered with dirt grime and bug bites. she had never taken a bath in her life as a result some rashes on her skin bothered her severally underneeth the dirt and grime. she didnt know what the outisde world was like but she had heard stories of it but thats is the closest shes ever been and probably ever will be. these walls were where she has spent all her life and will spend it from birth to death. it is a miracle she has survived this long espically since she never seems to be not sick.

Sari wandered around the area looking slightly disgusted by the conditions. She thought this was insane for so many people to be in such places even if they were mentally ill they needed help and care like everyone else. Sari then wandered around the childrens area where they had attempted top start playing a game. She smiled at they brightly and sat down to watch them.

Candy was isolated from all the other children in an adult cell due to the fact she was born there many of the children here were brought there with their parents. Candy sivered a bit hugging her knees tighter. she was filthy from head to toe and was proably very infected. the other kids had also picked on her partially why she is seprated also.

Sari smiled slightly and then got up and walked over to the adult quarters . She looked around quietly and watched the mothers hold their children quietly seeming as if to help them cling to life before they died of sickness. Sari scanned the room and saw a little girl sitting there. She walked over and quietly bent down and looked at her."Why hello?"

Candy just hugged herself tighter terrified of Sari she didnt know her she knew guards as bad things. she just gave a tiny whimper her big sad brown eyes looking to her terrified. the lice and bugs could be seeing crawling out of her hair and on her skin.

the filthy child wouldn't take it instead a small whimper escaped her lips as she backed away a little from the guard farther into her corner backed into the wall a bit. her big brown eyes watched terrified here anything but the stale bread either meant being chosen for the doctors experiments or worse...at least thats what she had been told she couldn't imagine what was worse then the doctors experiments. Candy's eyes searched the cell quickly trying to find a way to escape the guard not that that would happen you never got away when they wanted you but she could hope. her fingers moved to the pocket of the tunic she wore fingering an old rosary that had been her mothers they had overlooked so she had gotten to keep it.

Sari still kept a slight smile on her face," Don't worry I swear i didn't do anything to it and i'm not one to lie believe me." She stayed there with a warm smile on her face. Then a silver cross fell out of her shirt and became visible around her neck, but she ignored it hoping not to scare the child anymore than she already was. Sari had never seen a child this scvared of her ever before. she had heard about the bad reputations of the guards around here, but she hoped to change that.

Candy's eyes fell on the silver cross and her free hand hesitantly moved towards it though she kept glancing at Sari as if scared that it was a trap. her fingers slowly felt the cross but she quickly pulled away at the tiniest movement from Sari even if it was just to adjust the way she was sitting. but she continued to feel the rosary that had been her mothers, she hesitantly pulled it out of the pocket it sat in holding it in front of her to see if Sari would snatch it away since Candy was not supposed to have it or let he keep it. her big brown terrified eyes watching every tiny movement Sari made also keeping an eye out for other guards or inmates wanting to hurt he.

She smiled at her and kept in the position she was in," Well, that's a pretty rosary where'd you get that from?" Sari looked carefully and stayed at eye level with the girl making sure not to do anything that would scare her too much.
