What is Color Theory Color theory! "(C)olor theory is a body of practical guidance to color mixing and the visual impact of specific color combinations." In other words, there are color rules and methods into choosing and combining colors with or without the introduction of black and white.
With light, all colors produce white. With pigment, all colors produce black.
TRANSLATION There's a method to choosing colors!
Why Should You Care? Recently the trend has been to combine very bright colors and pairing them with colors that produce intense contrasts. For example a dark purple base with bright yellow markings would produce intense contrasts, this combination with coat patterns (excluding paint and tattoos) that are "unnatural" such as stars, hearts, concentric (target-shaped) circles, spirals, and polygons.
We're trying to (gently!!) discourage people from using this on Cein Isles taurs where it does not fit. It's hitting grey area and it is likely to be taken case-by-case. For example, some deep sea and reptilian Cein Isles creatures would be as brightly colored as their real world analogues
TRANSLATION Cut it out with the neon colors on the land taurs, already!
Why Should WE Care? There has to be some consistency in the Cein Isles world and colors would affect how your taur would fit in that world. For example, a brightly colored Cervitaur would have a truly difficult time hunting without being covered head to toe in natural colored camouflage. It would most likely starve to death as Cervitaurs traditionally hunt and do not cultivate or fish for their food.
TRANSLATION We have to color this stuff, you know! D:

Natural, Practical Colors Natural colors don't mean you're limited in your color choices. Pairing coat patterns and colors for certain taurs can be as varied as a fingerprint and yet still be tasteful! Just because someone has already done zebra stripes doesn't mean you can't do them in the same colors or patterns.
Examples: If you choose a Cervitaur, think of colors animals in real life have that also have cloven feet. Goats, sheep, cattle, antelope, etc. all have lots of natural patterns that don't need neon or "unnatural" colors to them and they are still very attractive patterns.
If you choose a Centaur, horses come in so many natural colors with or without paint (white markings) that you'd have quite a few centaurs before you ran out of realistic colors.
TRANSLATION Originality doesn't have to mean "How many colors can I cram onto one taur?", people! D8
Color Idea Swatches

If You MUST Choose Wild Colors Consider owning a Naga, Syrin, or Harpy (females are more common than males). Animals such as birds, snakes, lizards, and fish come in very bright colors that occur naturally in nature.
OR consider tattoos and body paint than making it a marking that's part of their actual flesh and hair.

Enforced Color Rules
Chiron City does NOT have color rules. You want color insanity, that's your place. Brightly colored female harpies are the exception, not the rule. Females are muted and more dull colored compared to males. Patterns that are wildly unnatural (pixel/glitch patterns/textile patterns) are NOT acceptable for Cein Isles. For example, a plaid colored taur (where it is skin and not paint or a tattoo) will not be accepted into Cein Isles but it is acceptable for Chiron City. Two hot/neon taurs will most likely produce muted or pastel babies. We will add black or white to even them out to keep the neon under control. If your taur is Naga or any water taur, their offspring will KEEP their neon.
