Welcome to the Writer's Sanctuary!
Here you writers could post your own stories/poems/fan fictions/essays or anything dealing with writing works. If you want criticism you can ask for it, and others can comment on your work
smile Everything in here follows the standard
Guild Rules,so please make yourself acquainted with them.
Other than that, here are a few extra rules and points to follow:
1)
All work here is the property of those who wrote it.In writing, it's much harder to tell if people steal your work, and indeed it's harder to police than artwork-theft. When you're reading please remember that
ideas as well as the writing itself is a type of property.
Admittedly, an idea like 'Knight fights dragon.Knight gets girl.' Is one that many people use, but with each story, poem or piece of work there's a creative process that is origional to the maker, and cannot (and
should not be taken from them.) So if the piece inspires you: great! If you copy it, that's very very bad.
I say this because with things like writing especially (as well as art to a degree) - these are publishable materials. If the maker's lucky, one day they might make a little woolong from it, so they deserve to keep their work for themselves.
As with anything creative, they are sharing something special and personal with you- so please consider that.
2)
If you would like to receive critisism, please say so in your post. That way no-one starts picking holes in your work when you don't want them to.
3)
Please only give constructive critisism. Make your comments count. evil - "That's crap, I hate it." -Is not acceptable.
neutral - "I don't particularly like it myself. In my opinion, the rhyming is a little too simplistic. Maybe you could switch some sentences around to look for more mature rhymes?" - Is much better. You don't have to like something to be helpful.
blaugh - "OMGDZ THAT IS THE BEST WORK EVAH!!!!" - Is very flattering, but not particularly useful...
biggrin - "Wow, I love it! I really like how you've written the characters, they seem very real." - is much more helpful.
4)
If your writing has mature themes (pg 13 and above) please say so in your title. That way people know what they're reading.
eg violence, sexual situations, swearing/crude language, horror
5)
Please, no 'Lemon', porn, 'sick and twisted' violence or anything you deem to violate the standard Gaia and Guild rules.Heck, we all want you to be creative and expressive, but there are limits. Usually this is defined by the
intention of the work.
For example, you can have a sexual encounter in a piece of writing, but if the writing is geared to inspire arousal or just be crude (eg 'lemon fiction'), then it's a no,no.
Equally, maybe a character is a little bit racist. Naturally he has a certain view of the world. However if the intention of the piece
itself is racist. BIG no no. The same goes for anti-homosexuality
[Remember, we have all types of people in the guild!]
Violence is violence. It ain't pretty. But look at it like films do. Some films have nasty violence in them (see Blade, Pan's Labyrinth, Pulp Fiction etc) but the
whole story is not geared to revolve around that violence, like some perverse pleasure. (For example like films like Saw,Hostel and to a lesser degree,Killbill.) Please keep this in mind when submitting.

If you want to share another's work, get proper permission/give credit! If you want to share a friend's work, or a particularily good passage from a poem/book, then giving proper credit and gaining permission is very important.
* If the work is already published: Then give proper credit (book title, author name, possibly even the publisher) and (if you can) give a link to somewhere online where you can
buy the book. For example, try looking for it on Amazon.com, then provide the link.
This is because publishers and authors can get twitchy about displaying parts of thier published work for free. If you provide a link to where people can buy the book, they can't complain :p
Also, do not reproduce a whole book. Just a passage or chapter. If it's a poem or short story, you can reproduce it, but not teh whole anthology it's in.
* If the work has not been published, and is a friend's or someone else you've seen on the internet (eg a story/poem displayed on deviantart) - please please
get permission befor eyou post it, and say in the post that you have their permission.
Alternatively, why not give a review of this work you like? you can do this over at the Entertainment Centre ^_~
Anything I've missed? Please post away and enjoy yourselves!
