Y'see, coca naturally contains cocaine - But in order to make it saleable, the leaves are treated with a certain chemical combination which essentially reduces the cocaine to pharmacologically-inactive gakks. Then again, it's not exactly hard to reverse that procedure!
I'm not going to go into a full write-up here, as it would require several pages, but rather I'm jsut going to outline the reaction mechanisms. That way, I'm not doing all the work for you, and I'm not spoonfeeding morons. Morons might still use it, but at least they'll learn something along the way.
basically, this is your regular tropinone-based synthesis but with a few differences. For starters, we're not going from succindialdehyde, which solves a lot of the problems and pitfalls. Nontheless, this is still a relatively inefficient synth, so if you're gonna do it, do it large-scale with a few kilos or dry tea leaves or more.
So, take your leaves, and if they aren't already, shred and grind them to a fine powder in a coffe grinder or ball mill or mortar and pestle (if you have enough elbow grease).
We're looking for the ecgonine here, which is a carboxylic acid, so peel that out of the cocoa leaves by liquid/liquid workup.
Methylate carefully, as it's a little sensitive, then purify and dessicate to at least technical grade.
A pinch of benzoic anhydride, together with your new-found methylecgonine should be refluxed in dry benzene - But the critical point here is an anhydrous atmosphere. Which means a sealed RV with a single inlet - On the inlet, plug a chromatography column, but pack it with crushed dried calcium sulfate.
Then chill, acidify with HCl and vap under vacuum to yeild an orange to carmine viscous oil, rextal your cocaine from it with a dab of IPA.
