Life...was good. An understanding had been reached with Aureate, and she had met relatives she hadn't even known existed. She had a new uncle, that she had watched grow up before her eyes. She was proud of Adamu, proud of her whole family...and happy that her new brother and sisters would know what it was like to grow up with their grandsire. So it was with a light heart and a light step that the dramatically-colored mare wove her way among the trees, making her way to the plains for a good long gallop.

Aureate altered his course, tucked his wings, and turned his nose toward the ground. With a fierce cry -as wild as a hawk, as piercing as any stallion's whistle to his mare- he plunged down through the whisper-thin clouds, through the rush of endless blue sky, down, down toward the emerald ground. The trees were suddenly easier to discern, looking more like mighty oaks then feeble weeds. And still he plunged, a streak of black and gold, mane and tail whipped back... A night-black meteor plunging to earth, fierce with the wild elation of such a freedom. A clearing began to take shape, far below him... A clearing that resolved itself to plains as the world came into closer view, sharper into focus. And still he dove, his speed so fierce he could hardly breath, it made his eyes water but he would not close them. Instead he laughed and whistled again, challenging wind and ground and every force on earth or in the heavens. 'Come, try and take this from me!'

At the stallion's call, Halia lifted her head to the sky, ice-pale eyes scanning the heavens. A wicked grin crossed her muzzle at the sight of golden-edged wings spread wide, riding the winds that ruffled the feathers entwined in her mane and tail. Gathering herself she leapt into the air herself, kicking out mightily before landing and lunging forward into a run. The mane whipped her dark violet-tinted mane and tail back behind her, and the feathers fluttered as wildly as though they might tear loose at any moment. "I won't, but I will do my best to fly with you!" she called back, laughing as she raced along with ground-eating strides.

The sound of that voice snapped him away from the call of air and land... Made him level off from his dive, and circle overhead as he searched the ground... Searched for the one sound that could turn him away from the siren's call of land or sea or air... "Halia." He breathed her name, suddenly seeing her dear form, hearing her laughter as she leapt into a run... Pouring all her heart into her speed. Fly with him!? How he wished she could! Spinning in the air he flapped his wings as hard as he could, surging through the air, angling his flight down, aiming for the center of the plains.... What luck that Halia would be there waiting for him! With another tilt of his wings he made a graceful landing, spinning on his haunches, looking for the sunset-colored shape that had become so dear to him... "Halia!"

With a whinny of delighted surprise that he should descend to meet her, Halia lowered her haunches to slow herself to a hasty stop. "Aureate!" she replied joyously as she pranced towards him, picking her feet up high in a spirited fashion. "How have you been? Where have you been?" Oh yes, Halia had missed the dark stallion with his flashes of gold.

He dropped to all fours, laughing, then reared, striking playfully at the air. Wings folded to his back he stood as tall as he could, pawing, leaping foward, diving toward the ground, kicking up his heels like a colt. He would have traded almost anything for the sight of her there, prancing toward him, the laughter in her eyes. "Where have I been? Flying lonely, my lovely Lady... And how? Well enough, without you." He glanced at her with his maskless side, all sparkling blue honesty surrounded by sweet darkness. The face of an angel, a playful, misguided, often troublesome one. "And you?" He pranced toward her at an angle, his strides a perfect sidepass. "Where and how have you been?"

"That's good to hear, though I would help with your loneliness if you wanted," Halia remarked, making a playful attempt to n** at Aureate's mane. "I've been keeping busy with the new siblings, and my new uncle and aunts." She tilted her head, a long lock of mane falling between her eyes and draping down the side of her face as she smiled. "I got to meet my grandsire and his mate. He seems happy...I don't know him very well yet, though." She stepped closer and reached to nuzzle the stallion's cheek. "I've missed you..."

Aureate dodged her strike, parrying it with his own lunge for a silken strand. The feathers in her hair caught his eye, and he noted they were the blue of the sky.. Shades lighter than her eyes, or even his own... For some reason, he rathered she wore feathers of black and gold... Quickly he shook himself, erasing such thoughts, and wrapped a wing around her when she sidled close enough. "And I missed you, Lovely Lady... I am glad you have been with your family... I am glad you've gotten to know your grandsire... I do not think I shall ever meet mine.. Not any of them..." He smiled, a little sad about that.

Halia nickered a laugh as he tugged on her hair. Leaning against him, she laid her head against his neck in a supportive gesture. "Family's not always what it's cracked up to be...my brothers are genuine pains in the a**. But...I think if you truly wish to meet yours, that you will." She tilted her head, looking up at him with one pale blue eye. "We'd find a way, if we had to tear the world apart to do it." The mare's tone was fierce, determined. If her love wished for anything, she would surmount any obstacle in her bid to attain it for him.

"What would I do without you?" He asked gently, rubbing his muzzle against her face lovingly. "I just don't know... You are a true wonder, my dearest one.. And yes, I'd greatly love to meet your family... And for you to meet mine, or at least, my adopted family..." He made a slight face. Introducing her to his sister would be difficult, as they never spoke anymore.. And Atum could be sooo irritating...

"What would you do? That's a good question," Halia mused as she pulled her face away for a moment to rub it against her foreleg and relieve it of an itch. "One I hope we never find out the answer to..." For a moment those icy pale eyes showed fear and worry as they imagined what life without her masked casanova might be like. To never see the wonders of the world at his side, or to hear his wondrous voice lifted in song again...shuddering, she tossed her head and nipped gently at Aureate in an effort to shift her thoughts to something else. "I would like to meet the ones you feel at home with, I think, especially if they are the ones truly responsible for the upbringing of one such as you."

Aureate grinned, chuckling at her reply. He probably would have gone on as he had before he met her... Half clueless, with several friends trailing after him as he pulled daredevil stunt after stunt, nearly killing himself for the next thrill. Not that he'd ever been in any real danger... The worry in her eyes made his smile soften to a look of affection, and he nuzzled her to shake off those worries. His pretty Halia was always so brave, no matter what the occurences. "Mother and Father will no doubt be about... " He murmured, speaking of his true family. "But Sibalto and his foals are easiest to find... And Nene -the wolf who acted as my mother- is never far away... Someone has to keep me out of trouble, and unless I'm in the air, she's convinced its her job."
