Mwenzangu and Unyenyezi had chosen to stop the search for her fellow Mwezi'Johari pride members for the night. But after a few hours sleep, the grey female was awake once more, tail twitching restlessly while her blue eyes stared out into the darkness. She wasn't tired. Names, ranks and dates were swirling in her mind. Being a recorder priestess, she knew so much about the past of her pride...but also she had the future on her mind. Getting back to them and finding a new homeland. She missed them.
After a while she got to her paws with a sigh, deciding enough was enough. Zizi would walk of some of her spare energy so she could get back to sleep. The cool night air and the moolit savannah would clear her mind and let her rest. She didn't expect to meet anyone else in the early hours.
But maybe she would...

He'd been having a little trouble sleeping lately, and the cool air of the night was doing well to calm his spirit. The gentle grey giant roamed that savannah, pounding at the earth carefully as he padded onwards. Emerald eyes spotted shapes in the distance, he was more wary at night, but the den he'd found and made wasn't too far off from here, he should be alright.
He found a shape in the distance which looked distinctly like a lioness and smiled. Company at night? He hoped he wouldnt frighten her and let out a soft greeting before he approached her. "Hello there, miss, don't be alarmed!" The male walked towards her green eyes searching.

"I'm not." Zizi turned, surprised when one of the distant passing shapes-in-the-night spoke out behind her. Came closer. One didn't get to middle age being startled by every little thing though, so while she hadn't expected to actually speak to anyone tonight, she quickly had a smile ready for the large grey male. All the other shades remained further away, going quickly about their business.
"Good evening!" She said pleasantly, studying the male with a quick glance over. He seemed harmless enough. Zizi always had time for nice creatures.

"I'm glad" He said gently, bowing before the female. "Good evening, I am Mbaraka." He was wellmannered and had picked them up from his family a long time ago. He wanted everyone to be happy, and took pride in comforting others. He was on his way to old age now, and still alone, which upset him from time to time, he wanted to settle down, find a lady and perhaps a pride. Eyes stared at the female not pressingly, but gently and to offer comfort.

The bow was a pleasant surprise. Unyenyezi liked good manners. She curtsied in return - a quick but elegant action, one paw out and one paw to her chest as she bowed. Old fashioned, but she was getting on and would likely never pick up the more modern, short bows. Swift bobs of the head and the like.
"They named me Unyenyezi. But if you'd like, you can call me Zizi." Lately she'd reclaimed her cubhood nickname. Gave her a bit of a kick to hear it.

He smiled at her curtsey, a graceful action. Manners to him, were very important, and it was important to make an impression on those you meet, maybe it could even cheer them up. Her name was nice too, and she seemed of the same age roundabouts. It wasn't often that you met an older lion, the lands seemed to be rife with cubs, not that he minded, but this company was nice every once in a while.
"'Zizi it is then, I must say, it's a lovely name." Mbaraka loved names, and often thought they matched their owner, if the name was beautiful then so were they, or if it provoked fear or sadness, then they were a bad omen, but he gave everyone respect and thought that everyone should have a chance.

"Why thank you. Mbaraka...that name's a Blessing, isn't it?"
She replied pleasantly. Along with the ranks associated with names, she often remembered their meanings too. There'd been a Mbaraka once, in her pride, long ago. A Mbaraka'miezi, Blessings of the Moons. Married to a slave and joined her in her rank out of love. Very sweet story a number of generations back. Of course, this Mbaraka wasn't anything to do with that, but it made her smile to remember the story.
"Well, may the Great Lion protect you."

"Why, yes, it is." He nodded and smiled. She seemed to have her name meanings down, or perhaps she knew someone from before called Mbaraka? "If I may ask, Zizi, what does yours mean?" He wasn't really one for the actual meanings themselves, just the sound and feeling they made. He was aware that his mother had named him a blessing as she had been longing for a cub for so long. It was a sad story, but with a happy ending. Bowing to her again, he repeated her words. "May the great lion protect you." He wasn't exactly sure what this meant, but he knew of gods and fates and knew that everyone should be protected in this balance.

"Mist, fog...haziness." She tilted her head sheepishly at the last meaning. It wasn't just for her tarnished silver fur she'd been named. Although she had a wonderful memory of facts and histories, she could be very absentminded. Unyenyezi could wake up on new moon thinking it was still waxing or get someone mixed up with their twin brother. It was vaguely embarassing when she realised her mistakes though she often didn't. Too busy breezing along goodnaturedly.
"You know the Great Lion, or are you just that polite?" It was curiously asked, but with a smile.

Her name was pretty in sound, but apparently not as such in meaning. He thought her name would mean something perhaps more beautiful, more suiting. For the lioness held herself with grace and dignity, her polite attitude mimicking that of his mothers, and so he felt already fond. He missed his mother, but was sure she was doing well in the life she had proceeded into. Although, as he always had maintained, he was never the one for really understanding the actual meanings of names.
Shamefully, he shook his head at her question. "I'm afraid that I do not know exactly of the Great Lion." His emerald eyes were downcast before bowing his head slightly and looking up to the female. "I understand of gods and the fates and such, but not so much of a specific figure." He admitted. Mother had never mentioned a single god, just the group, and fate and things, and their powerful tug on life. "I am guessing he is part of your religion?" He offered a friendly smile and asked politely, afraid of insulting her. "Pardon my intrusion, if you wish to keep such things to yourself." They had only just met afterall, and whilst Mbaraka was able to be more trusting and open with strangers that seemed friendly, he realised that others may have a different view.

"Oh I don't mind explaining and yes, he is. Though perhaps we should talk of other things during a first meeting - religion usually bring the conversation to a point, i you know what I mean. Even when it's just friendly curiousity." It was one of those 'heavy' subjects that took a lot of talking and often killed the mood. If this was more than just a chance meeting on the road, she'd have plenty of time to tell him and he could tell her of anything he believed himself. She was a glutton for information and will would always remain true to her pride's religion was interested in such things.
"On a lighter topic, are you from around here, friend?"

He nodded gracefully and smiled. "Of course." He'd never really been one for religion, him and mother never really shared a specific view on anything like that. He believe in Gods and would believe legends if they were told to him, he just didn't have any ideas set in stone, he could be described as an agnostic. At her question, he shook his head, emerald eyes saddened a touch. "To tell the truth, I'm not paticularly from anywhere."
It'd been so long since he'd been "home", after his mothers death, he hadn't really wished to return. It was so far away after all, he had to move foward. He longed for somewhere to belong, to settle down, maybe have cubs before it was too late, and then go on to enjoy life in his old age.

"Oh, a traveling soul then?" Zizi said, smiling and politely inquisitive. Interesting. She'd always been in her pride and this whole upheaval to find a new homeland was the most traveling she'd ever done. Loosing them being the only time she'd traveled alone, and then in a group smaller than like....five or six. While her sweetheart had wanted to travel a bit when they were young the war'd robbed her of him and her ambitions to.
So it was interesting to meet someone with no set roots.

"Yes" He gave a polite smile and a deep nod, but his emerald eyes looked lost for a moment. A rogue life could be a lonley life, living without family, without a Pride or a place to truely call home. He longed for that somtimes, for that safety, for that feeling of belonging somewhere. He decided to admit to these feelings, Zizi was sure not to use them against him, she seemed sweet and gentle and Mbaraka would have gladly opened up to the lioness. "I admit, I'd love to belong somewhere..." He trailed off for a second. "I just haven't really found anywhere to belong."

"Oh...that's a shame." She tutted, sympathetically. "Some are made for that life but if you long for a pride it must be tough sometimes."
"I can't wait to find my pridemates again. I'm...somewhat lost." She offered the information and while she trusted he wouldn't tease her harshly, she still looked down sheepishly. A lioness her age, helplessly lost like a little cub. Fancy that.
