AIM RP between Kaytla and Kimaria.
Yen Ha had been mindlessly wandering the lands for days now, cursing pretty much everything as he went. He cursed the female who had shouted at him and driven him to leave the pridelands in the first place. He cursed hyenas and he cursed that annoying pipsqueak golden girl who had desperately tried to pick a fight.
Now he was cursing his sore feet. They had recently bled, due to the harsh terrain and the lack of use on his part. His body was just not adept at this! He was a thinker not a...not a walker!
He sat down, wheezing from the heat and shook the dust from his scraggly mane.
"Damn it! Damn it all!"
Kemmy had been idly dozing in the shade of a large boulder. Haba was out hunting for them, it being her turn this fine day (he insisted he hunt at least half the time, not wanting to make her work for his meals), and he was waiting at exactly the spot he had promised her he would wait. Though it might not be exactly entertaining, laying here all by his lonesome, but it was a chance to rest his muscles nonetheless. Even though he was fit, they inevitably ached a bit after a while when he kept travelling day after day.
But his little midday siesta was interrupted when his ear started flicking in time to a lot of loud cursing coming from the other side of the boulder. His eyes opened slowly, and he frowned a bit. Someone certainly didn't sound happy today. His curiosity won over, the large male hefted himself to his paws and stretched out, and then trotted around the boulder to poke his head into Yen Ha's view, finally seeing who was causing all the ruckus.
"Something wrong, friend...?"

"W-woah!" Yen Ha span around, faster than perhaps most would give him credit for. He was a gangly, lanky and scraggly male, only new to his adult mane. It flopped messily into his face and partially blocked his view of the colourful lion.
"Didn't you ever get taught not to sneak up on others?" He curled his lip in a sneer, not seeming to care that Kemu was quite a bit larger than him.
"And no, nothing's wrong, unless you count being out here in the middle of this miserable place." He hissed.
The big orange male slowly raised one of his eyebrows. Well, this fellow was more than a bit unhappy, it seemed. He was downright grumpy, as far as Kemmy could tell, if not even somewhat anti-social. Kemmy never understood those who were like that. He couldn't understand how anyone would want to spend their time willingly away from the happy company of others for any long period of time. It was just a mystery to him. But in spite of that, he still tried to reach out to them and make friends. It was simply his way.
Fixing a smile onto his face, and came completely into view, sitting down with one shoulder leaning against the big rock. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to startle you." He turned his head to look briefly at the boulder. "I was napping behind this rock, and couldn't help but overhear..."
He glanced briefly around. Miserable? It hardly seem that way to him. Sure, there might not be much to see in a place as wild as this, but it had its own unique beauty to Kemmy. He supposed, though, that not everyone could see it that way, and he wasn't the type to force his views on others. "Ah, I see. Is there any particular reason you are out here...? There isn't a pride that I know of in any direction for at least a few day's travel, you should know, my friend."

Yen Ha wrinkled his snout, eyeing the male somewhat nervously now that his initial shock was over. Kemu was big, bigger than he had realised. He swallowed back a nervous lump in his throat but was determined not to let on, though the emotion was probably evident in his face.
"Good. I don't want to bump into anymore pride cats. I've had enough of them." He batted his tail against the ground. "I thought I'd get some peace out here, but even places like this attract..." He trailed off, not wanting to push his luck. He'd done that enough times!
"And the reason I'm out here in the first place is none of your business. I am. Wish I wasn't but I can't go home either, not back to that dreadful place." He cast an angry glance in the direction of the Pridelands.
It had been a long time since he'd met someone so negative as Yen Ha apparently was. The large male almost sighed. It was such a shame. He seemed so young, like he was barely old enough to be wearing his mane. Why was he so angry at the world? He should still be in a happy state, running and laughing and getting into all sorts of mischief. Learning about friendship, and maybe even love. Learning the simple joys good company could bring. What had happened to this poor boy?
Kemu suddenly decided he would at least try to find out. And if he managed that, perhaps he could even try to help Yen Ha find a smile somewhere deep inside. Disregarding all of Yen Ha's prior angry comments and letting them slide by, the big male changed topics. "What has made you so angry at everyone, friend? What happened to you?"

"Nothing happened to me. I just am the way I am." He replied.
In truth Yen Ha had superiority issues. No one he had ever met was suitable for being his friend. They were all too stupid, all too foolish. They wanted to rough house, tumble in the dirt. Yen Ha was too refined for that (not to mention too weak). It wasn't something he did on purpose. It just happened, mostly because he seemed insensitive, making comments that hurt feelings - though most of the time he didn't realise it.
"No one in this world appreciates a good, sharp mind. All they care about is physical strength." Something that Yen Ha lacked, and it worried him. He was weak, too weak to ever win a female, to weak to protect himself let alone anyone else.
"No one understands." He replied finally.
"No one appreciates..." Kemmy echoed disbelievingly, raising both eyebrows. Just who had this boy been mingling with back home? Kemmy couldn't help but think it wasn't many, with his current attitude. Kemu shook his head slowly. It seemed clear to him already that Yen Ha's mind had perhaps been too sharp for others - as well as his tongue. He'd dealt with a few individuals who had thought they were too smart, and that everyone else couldn't keep up with their wit, and they had been rather mean about that. As a result, they'd been on their own... just like Yen Ha was.
"Not everyone can be smart, my young friend. If you don't accept that some just aren't, and try to understand them instead, you're not going to get any kind of appreciation at all. If you meet someone halfway... well, that way the result will be quite different." He paused. "That's what I've always thought, anyway."
But even though he said these things to Yen Ha, he somehow didn't expect them to have an impact on the young male. In his experience, those like him thought they were too smart to need advice of this sort, and just disregarded it as pointless. Occasionally he wondered if they'd since learned the errors of their ways, but he also doubted that for the most part.

Yen Ha looked at the brightly coloured male, one brow arched in dismay. Was this lion, lecturing him on how to behave? Well, really, he wasn't a cub anymore and he wouldn't have taken it even if he was. No, he was big now, big and wise enough not to listen to such words.
He stood, shook the straggly, dusty bangs out of his eyes and glared at the male with his eyes, the only colour he possessed on his being. His eyes were the reason for his name, the reason that he wasn't plain and boring.
"Well, thank you very much. I will certainly make use of that information." It was clear, form his tone, that the words hadn't been appreciated.
"Why should I put up with idiots when they will not put up with an intellect?" He growled. "Is it wrong of me to want some intelligent company and conversation? I think not."
Again, Kemkemu found himself shaking his head at Yen Ha. Of course he didn't plan to listen to a word Kemmy said and take it with him. He was another one of those arrogant know-it-alls. It upset him to think that the other would either learn the hard way what he was doing wrong, or he would end up alone for most of his life, if not all of it. But Kemmy wasn't the type to just give up. Not until Yen Ha walked away. And so, despite knowing it was probably pointless, he carried on anyway.
"Perhaps, if you tried being less arrogant, people would put up with you more easily. It seems to me that you think of yourself as superior to everyone else. The way I see it is... no one is better than any other person. And so I treat everyone that I meet equally. I don't judge anyone by how smart they are, or how strong, or how fast they can run, or any other thing you can think of.
He watched Yen Ha for a few moments. "If you carry on the way you are, you'll never have any company and conversation. No one wants to talk to someone who looks down on them for no good reason."

Kemu hit a nerve and it ran down the length of Yen Ha's spine, sending his whole body into a tingling sense of anger and horrible realisation. Yes the bright male was right, he'd probably always be alone, but who cares! Better that than to be surrounded by brutes and fools!
However, something in his eyes changed. That definat, superior glint that had glinted like hard, sharp diamond, had faded. His ears had drooped a little and his jaw had gone slack,
What could he say? Should he say anything at all? Strengthening his stance, the young male straightened, raised his head proudly and took a small step back.
"And when people talk to me like that, it makes me realise that I'm better off alone. You're all rude, brutes that don't have anything better to do than lecture others." He flicked his tail and narrowed his eyes.
"You're wrong. I'll find someone out there, someone who'll meet my expectations and when that time comes, the waiting will be worth it." Gathering himself up like a prince whose feathers had been ruffled, Yen Ha turned and swept away.
Behind him came a roar of an adult female successful in her hunt.
Sadly, Kemkemu watched Yen Ha walk away. That was that, he supposed. Yet again, he had failed to make another lion understand that accepting the flaws of others was the only way to ever have any kind of relationship with them. He didn't understand how it was always the smartest lions who made the most foolish mistakes in life and didn't know how to handle others properly. It was a befuddling mystery to him.
"I hope you're right, friend," he said softly, not knowing whether or not Yen Ha would hear him - though not expecting him to turn back even if he did. Yen Ha was determined to leave by this point so he wouldn't have to face what Kemmy said, and the big male wasn't going to stop him. If he wanted to learn the hard way, Kemkemu couldn't change that choice for him, even though he'd like to for the other male's sake.
His ears perked forward as he heard that roar, his attention turning away from Yen Ha, knowing that it meant Haba had been successful in her hunting. He got to his feet, debating whether or not he should wait as he'd said he would, or seek her out to help her carry the food to somewhere they could eat comfortably.
