Anyone a player, or just interested, of extended range guitars. This thread is dedicated in discussion of their uses and likeability.

People may post pictures of their guitars and/or pose their views on the usefulness of 6+ stringed guitars.

All I ask is that people be a litle tollerent if you are against these instruments. wink You may pose your view but please refraim from outrite insulting an instrument that some find useful.

Also talk about this new fad of 8 strings that are poping. up.

cool

I have no Idea why Dean would make a Razorback 7, sicne Dime never played a 7 string and he actually didn't like them. But good luck to yah on that. Hope it sounds great.

The Ibanez one to me seems to expensive and anoys me that the scale is to long so tuneing up is out of the question.

Most of the videos I have seen with it made the F# sound muddy.

Can't wait to see what Ishahn does with it on his next album though. 3nodding

I'm favoring the new LTD 8 string because the scale is 25" so I will be able to tune up and the thing is about $500 cheaper. An F# though would probably be floppy as hell though on the low end. I guess thats why they are also issueing the Carpenter with the 28" scale.

I picked up a 7-string, used, cheap-a** thing, De Armond (edit: S-67), about 2 years ago. It's a real joy to play. I had always wanted one when I played Metal in the 90s, and saw ppl like Steve Vai with their own custom 7-strings. These days the rest of us can own them too, which is nice.

I've often wondered who they market certain gold-plated guitars for, as only a musician would want a $2000 guitar in my mind, and most musicians in bands that would make that kind of money get most of their gear for free!

Anyhow, I love Syphelia, my 7-string, and barely touch the Fender these days. I love having those extra notes! The downside is you have an extra string to worry about vibrating, and some FX on some pedals will not cover that added range -- though you're good with most FX. I suppose bending the thumb over for e-string chords is out too, but I was never big on that anyway.

I don't get ppl who say 7-string is not a guitar. It is. . . it's just that much better.

Pics please. I guess the negative press comes from the nu metal phase of the 90s that drove bands like Dream Theater and Steve Vai to temporarily put away the 7. Can't wait untill I have my amp paid off so I can buy my own 7. I'm debateing if I want an Ibanez RG7321 or if I want to chance the H&S custome shop.

Had a quick look at both of those quitars. . . pretty impressive, but I would personally never buy the H&S with locking Floyd Rose because the 6-string I have with a Floyd Rose II mechanism takes me about 20 minutes to tune -- when it gets really out of tune (once a month or so). . . and is thus useless for drop tuning or any kind of alternate tuning. I like the flexibility. It might work but there will always be one song. But I'd say the other option the Ibanez, though more expensive might be better. I find Ibanez "too tight" across the neck for me. . . But if you try before you buy, not a problem I guess.

I also saw the H&S triple guitars and laughed! I have been seeing a lot of Industrial bands using various kinds of double necks lately, it must be a craze or something that ppl will remember this era by.

Not to say they wouldn't be good in live performances.

And I have no digital camera so pictures are not happening right away.

Unless one of the guitars is in an open tuneing the triple neck sounds stupid. Capos solve alot of problems with tuneings for7 strings. What I would want is a 14 string or a double neck 7/14 so I can achieve the luch sound of a 12 without sacrificeing the high e strings. then againt he 12 is more rythm orintated so I guess It wouldn't matter.

The H&S also comes in a tuneomatic so that is one of the main interests. That and the fact that the guitar come in more thatn black.

The Ibanez is amazeing for the price, but would take some getting used to since I play jackson guitars and Ibanez has a shorter width on the fretboards.

I'll probably go with the Ibanez though since I have actually player it.
