Barry stood in line by the old dock, a wide-awake baby in his arms. Quinn had decided that the last few nights were not for sleeping, and how she remained conscious at all was a wonder.
Because of this lack of slumber, Barry imagined a boat ride would be his best bet. He had no car to drive at 3 in the morning, but a boat gave the same general rocking, the same sensation of movement, usually associated with sleeping babies.
And, if sleeping babies weren't an option? Sleeping daddies were.

Adjusting his hat with the free hand that was not latched onto the toddler, Wotcher eyed the line for the boat ride as they approached it. Why couldn't Pell ever pick an activity that didn't involve waiting in lines or money - or, even worse, both? The park was a nice free, line-less place to go. Window shopping was also good! No, instead they had to come here and pay five bucks to ride on a boat. But first they had to wait in a line longer than the actual ride was.
Pell, holding onto her protector's hand, was blissfully unaware of Wotcher's internal woes about her activity choice. Boats were fun! Riding things was fun! People were fun! Riding on a boat with other people was bound to be fun! This was going to be great! She giggled at the mere thought of it.
The two stepped onto the end of the line. It wasn't too long, Wotcher noted hopefully. Maybe this would turn out alright.
The red-headed Sin'aeis at his side was thinking about different things. That guy in front of them had wings, too! Except his looked like icky bug wings and definitely weren't as pretty as hers. "Wotcha, how come not everyone dun have wings," she asked, continuing to look at the man in-front of her.
"Because not everyone is supposed to have wings."

Barry wheeled around, looking down to the bizarre little kid behind him. Hmm...
He managed a small smile, looking first to the child, and then to the man she seemed to be with.
"Hello," he nodded, ears folding back slightly. Quinn just burbled. From somewhere in the water, a little head appeared. It was deep green, dark, with eyes of burning red. Eek! Kas struggled out of the water and shook off like a dog before trotting over to his Warm and zher Big Thing. His nose went down to the new toddler's belly, snuffling.

Nodding himself, Wotcher gave a customary smile to the man. "Hey." Hmph. Compared to most other denizens of Gaia, Wotcher felt terribly plain. He had no wings, no strange ears, no extra appendages to speak of, and normal hair and eye colors. Almost. It almost made ones self-esteem plummet once they stepped into a public place. He was so un-cool.
Pell grinned up at the winged man as he turned towards them. "Hey! I like your ears," she she said, looking at them. They had green hair on them! Her own ears were flowers, and she rather liked them, but sometimes she wished they were normal ears. Flower ears required a lot of annoying maintenance.
Just then, some kind of strange creature climbed out of the water and onto the dock. Alarmed, Wotcher watched as it moved towards Pell, and just as he started to take her into his arms and save her from a wretched fate, she started to laugh. What? Little girls don't laugh at horrible sea monsters!
Giggling, Pell patted the wet animal on the head as it snuffled. It tickled!

"...thank you?" Barry said a bit hesitantly. Huh. Personally, he could do without the excess fur. He had half a mind, then, to pull the creature away from the toddler himself, but seeing as to how no fangs were being bared, he could stay.
Kas dodged any attempts at petting. No! Silly fleshy warm thing, he was not yours to touch! He did, however, keep sniffling. Hmm! She smelled like nice.
"Hi," he said curtly before he wandered off with a twitch of the tail.
"That's Kashultz," Barry explained, "We're not sure what he is or how he got here, but he seems to be staying."
