Name : Sean "The Dude" Carroll Age : 29 Personality : mellow Former Occupation : rare fish diver, fisherman, unemployed, odd jobs Clothing at Time of Arrival : bum wear - patterned shorts, dirty white t-shirt, beat up hoodie Body Shape : "cornfed", has somewhat of a beer belly, rather bear like, wide shoulders and a bit of a waddling swagger when he walks. Height : 6'3'' Weight : 210? I am not that good with weight guessing Race/Skin Tone : Caucasian, tanned, sea roughed, perpetually shedding skin on the nose. Hair Color : dirty blond, bleached out by the sun and the salt Hair Length/Style : kinda shoulder length, matted into haphazard dreads Eye Color : bluish grey Background (in brief) : Grew up in Montrey Bay CA, surfed thru high school, got into environmental stuff in college, but failed most of his classes, jobbed on fishing boats and whale watching tours after that but was not very reliable, got into SCUBA and diving, life was slowly going on, then 5 years ago, a distant uncle died in Florida, leaving his lucky nephew a boat. So Sean packed up his beat up Civic and hauled over to the Keys to claim the inheritance. He rearranged the boat into a house and made a living catching rare tropicals, fishing and giving tours. Maybe also smuggling some on the side. Mostly loving life. the only thing that really rains on Sean's parade right now are hurricanes. One of these royally screwed him over and he got blown far far off course with his radio busted and the compass short-cutted. This is how he ended up on the island.

THE DUDE'S PICTURE GALLERY
This is The Dude. This picture was taken right after he got to the island. The man on his t-shirt is Bob Dylan, and the words are a title of one of Bob Dylan's albums. I found it strangely fitting for The Dude. In his hand he has a Corona beer. He also drinks Bud, Miller, Miller High Life, PBR and any other cheap brew. He smokes, both tobacoo and weed and likes tropical cocktails like Pina Coladas and Sex on the Beach -- Anya
This is Captain Morgan. Captain Morgan came with the "Liberty Manatee" - he is a true sea cat and this boat is his. The Dude and Captain Morgan share the facilites well enough, but only because the Dude has learned to bribe Captain Morgan with fish heads. Captain Morgan is likely about 10 years old and a mean, mean kitty that takes of hands and beats up Rottweilers --Anya
This is the "Liberty Manatee". Except there is more of a shanty on top of it, as opposed to just a wind shield. Well, at least this is how I think it looks like. For now. Maybe it should be a bit bigger ... when I find a better picutre, I will put it here. --Anya

I think sea lions kick a** so here there will be info on them as well as Sean's progression into one ^^ MAN, he'l be gaining some weight XDDDDD

The rest of the page for now shall be plugged with pictures of sea lions, as i locate them. I also posted some interesting facts about these awesome critters.First and foremost - click here for sea lion swimming footage. It's a bit long - 8 minutes, but you get to see how gracefull they are without any stupid commentary and just the bubbles as sound effects. LOOK! A sea lion! He is making a rukus like a dog. Namely - barking! Arf ... Arf ... ARF ARF ARF ARF! If you watch the footage under this link you can hear the California sea lion bark in the end very well. All the sea lions you see there are males, thus the fuzzy manes that they all have http://www.racerocks.com/racerock/archives/vidslion.htmAs you can see, the sea lion in the picutre has no molars in his mouth - just sharp canines and a few smaller teeth. That is because sea lions do not chew their food - they either rip out chunks or simply swallow the fish whole. Another intresting fact regarding sea lion feeding habits is that they like to swallow stones. Why - nobody really knows. There are theories that the stones help either with digestion or as ballast, but it's posssible the sea lions do it just for kicks. So if a sea lion swims up to you when you are diving - throw him a stone - he might actually go fetch it!

Sea lions also like to hang out on top of bouyos. Did I spell it right? Yeah, whatever. ANYWAY, I've seen some sea lions climb perches that are several feet out of the water. S' pretty amazing when a 500 pound beast can pull himself up wiht his front flippers alone. Then again - sea lions swim using their front flippers, so they are extra strong. They are amazing swimmers, capable of reaching 18-25 miles per hour if necessary and able to dive to depth of 400 meters. Though usually they only dive to a depth of 100 meters - where most of the food is. Still, pretty amazing! That is why it is so sad that these powerful animals find their demise most frequently not in the jaws of sharks and killer whales but from trash floating around in the ocean. The sea lion in the photo bellow looks plenty happy and peacefull, but if take a closer look you will see a fishing line that is wrapped around his neck. As the lion grows, the fishing line will cut furhter and further into his flash, causing a festering wound and eventuall suffocation. And he cannot remove it with his flipper. So yeah. DON'T THROW TRASH INTO THE WATER. EVER!

Look at this bumm! He's sratching his arm pit. They are oh so human in their laziness. And yet they are gracefull and very elegant in the water. I mean, one could have picked a sloth for the dude, but sloths are pathologically lazy. Sea lions are have a choice. They choose to lay in the sun all day.

One of the things that differentiates sea lions from seals is the rotating pelvis that the sea lions have. That allows the sea lions to actually walk on their flippers like a dog would unlike a seal that has to sort of slither snake like along the sand. That's how come sea lions get the best roosts up the beaches. That and a mouth full of teeth.

Sea lions are VERY smart and very trainable if you have a stead supply of fish. Several laboratories do research on animal communication using sea lions which have shown that the lazy bumms think and leran quickly and capable of complex associations. Military trains them for unsavory uses, too, like as live torpedos and underwater watchdogs. CRUEL BASTARDS!

Fish are crucial for sea lions. No fishy, no sea lion. They eat everything they can get their mouth around but also appreciate a littel help when hunting. E.g. - they take fish off long lines and rip nets to get to the salmon. See, they are even lazy in hunting.
