According to this article here FUNImation has had a good financial quarter and has begun looking into acquiring some of the Geneon titles.

So what do you guys think? What titles do you want them to pick up? I hope the deal won't tank like it did with ADV, but I have no business experience and can't even begin to speculate.

it sounds good, especially for Hellsing. but having only one semester of economics hardly qualifies me as a buisiness person.

Acquisition of new titles from Geneon's former catalog may afford FUNimation the edge it needs to consolidate its hold in the industry. I'm no business specialist, however, so all I can do is just wait and see.

If Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima are part of that deal, then excellent. If they could start redistributing Fate/stay night, that'd be good as well.

Assuming this to be the truth, it would greatly help things. Lots of the titles Geneon released were titles that I liked....

Geneon was just about to release Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's before they ceased all DVD-related operations, too. I hope FUNimation picks those up too.

I really want someone to release the rest of Saiunkoku... I hope that's part of this deal. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha also seems interesting.

According to the FUNImation representative at Anime Boston, they are still only looking into titles; they haven't officially picked anything up as of yet.

Not to bump an old thread, but it's happened.

If you guys haven't heard already, during Anime Expo, FUNimation announced that they had acquired both the nod to distribute Geneon titles, and also gained all the recent (2006-present) titles that ADV once released, which have all been out of print since this past February....save for very recent releases. (Which are also now effectively out of print....but only for a short time.)

As you all probably know by now, ADV has been in some rocky times....has been since early this year (circa February), ever since getting hit with their licensing partner pulling out their support, and losing Gurren Lagann to Bandai Entertainment. They're currently seeking out a new deal and hope to get out some new stuff.

This is BIG BIG news, and saves TONS of anime titles from near-certain extinction.

Among Geneon's more recent takes:

- Story of Saiunkoku
- Karin
- Higurashi (When They Cry)
- Black Lagoon
- KamiChu!
- Rozen Maiden

Among ADV's recent takes:

- Utawarerumono
- Kanon
- AIR
- Coyote Ragtime Show

All these and many others should be out there soon once again.

Finally my wallet can breathe a little easier, knowing these will all be avaliable again. Last year after Geneon closed their own distribution warehouse down, I was going crazy, picking up all and anything I could that I wanted to see by them.

With ADV, anything I want to see by them yet were picked up before they partnered with Sojitz, and are already in thinkpak box sets (Petite Princess Yucie, etc), and I bought all of Utawarerumono...the only ADV / Sojitz title I bothered with during their very short partnership. Still it's nice that this stuff is out there again, or will be soon, for fans who missed them. Especially Utawarerumono....(heh, sorry...kinda a big fan of that one).....I was a bit shocked when it just suddenly went 'poof' from store shelves late last year.....BEFORE the last couple volumes were released.....which I had to ultimately order online.

Saiunkoku's rescue really suprised me the most. It was one of those that had the LEAST likely chance of getting a second shot here. I picked up the first (and only so far) two DVDs of that. I just like shows like that.....nice, long winding detailed romance with a hint of comedy element to them. Can't wait to finish it off.

(PS: Yeah it's been ages since I been here, but damn...this 'second coming' of these seemingly forgotten titles from both companies......it's thrown me back into anime full-time.

Just when I was in the middle of a burn-out period too.)

I hope they release a box set of Air, which is what I was basically waiting for with ADV. And even though I haven't heard much about Utawaremo, what I have heard is great. Maybe I'll check out that one, too.
