Okay so not really, but I was going to update my wardrobe, and as a first time Hijabi I don't want to go to school in sweats and sweatshirts, I feel as if I'm not taking the time to show myself as a neat person. (To God of course) So I was wonderrriinggg.... I could wear dresses (the ones up to the knees) and maybe straight-legged jeans underneath?
Examples:

Plaid dress (I'll wear a white long sleeve under that.)
Straight legged jeans (not exactly in this shade...)

There are some folks who say this look is "over," but I happen to love it. Leg freedom and warmth, plus a nicely covered body that nevertheless sports a new fashion look? There's no bad there!

I also highly recommend the wonderful items at Shukr Online -- I buy almost all my skirts there, and I have a few scarves I got there, too. Also for more Islamic clothing do a net search. I'm very fond of Hijab Girl, Alhannah, Hilal Plaza... they have some very nice things, at very nice prices. I also really adore the scarves at Modest World and at Tznius.com.

For undershirts, try both The Gap and Hanes. The Gap has more colors to choose from, but Hanes shirts are about half the price. I get my white, grey, and black from Hanes, and go to Gap or sometimes Old Navy whenever I want another color. I also get a lot of my sweaters at The Gap or Old Navy.

I haven't found a lot of athletic wear that works well for me. I love the designs at Primo Moda, but they don't use very stretchy, breathable fabrics. I can jog in them, but I can't play vigorous sports, or do tumbling or yoga stretches; the shoulders don't move much, and there's not a lot of movement possible in the trousers, either. Still, they're very modest, and you could jog or play soccer in them.

But you've got the right idea, for dresses to put over your jeans. Just make sure that they go to the knee, if you're stringent about covering the upper part of your leg. For me as a Jew, I am required to cover my entire upper leg, which means that even when I sit down, you can't see my knees; so I have to very carefully check the length of overdresses or salwar kameez when I wear them. I am not as familiar with Islam's laws on body-concealment. This could be just as big a deal for you, or it could be fairly unimportant (I don't really know), so check with your Islamic authority such as an imam or another knowledgeable adult in your religious community.

Wow! I just looked at all of these sites! And the Women's tees at Old Navy were super cute! But the most eye catching site was Primo Moda! I love the swimsuits there! I loved to swim but stopped because of wearing the hijab! Now I can go back! biggrin All these sights can help me refill my wardrobe and some extra items (swimsuit.... whee ) But for the athletic wear, one can play teams sports? (Soccer, Basketball, Tennis?) But overall your advice was much appreciated! I will now ask my parents to lend me the credit card.... ninja

I went on a cruise this past summer, and wore my swimsuit that I got from Primo Moda. The first couple of days, people were either staring, or pointing and laughing because I looked unusual/strange/funny. By the third day, when I was the only cruiser that didn't have a sunburn, I started to look pretty smart. In fact, by the end of the cruise, about a dozen women had come up to ask me where I got it, and asked me to write down the name of the website. I must say, that swimsuit was super comfortable, and it protected me from sunburn, on top of protecting me from the prying eyes of lustful men.

About team sports: Why not? If you're playing with (and against) other girls, there shouldn't be a problem. You're engaging in exercise and competition, not in erotic dancing, so there's nothing immodest about it at all. Again, though, check with your imam. My rabbi thinks it's fine. In fact, our synagogue has a co-ed softball team every summer which I've been thinking of joining. I suspect that's really only okay because softball isn't a contact sport, though. Tennis, softball, that kind of thing should be fine. Basketball, hockey, wrestling, or football, there's a LOT of body contact, so that probably wouldn't be appropriate for co-ed teams (mixed males and females), but should be fine if it's girls only.

How fun for you, joining a co-ed softball team!
Thank you for answering all my questions! All those women on the cruise asked you where you got your bathing suit. How ironic! xd

I found it quite amusing, yes. One of them, who wore a bikini nearly all the time, let me know that she was a Muslima and hadn't known where to buy a swimsuit that conformed to Muslim modesty laws. I was so glad that she asked, and we talked for a bit. Apparently her parents had surprised her with the cruise tickets, just a few months after she'd told them that she had embraced Islam. She didn't know how to turn down such a gift, but she also didn't know how to continue to be modest as a Muslima while swimming. Now she does, and I'm so glad I ran into her.

With a little creativeness, you can be a modest Muslima or Jew, and still have loads of fun, do sports, and be as fashionable as you desire to be. Good luck!

Not in Ireland it isnt! 3nodding It extremely popular here and IF my church permitted trousers for ladies, I would wear the skinny jeans in a laulis lazi blue or indigo and a dress or a wide top with 'bishop's sleeves' ontop with a long sleeved top underneath. You will look great!Good Luck!

Probably, but I'm definitely not a visual artist. Let me look for something, though. There's almost surely something online that'll work. Maybe just a collection of all the members wearing our avatars' head coverings?

That's a great idea! You could post the announcement and such and such! :]

Feel free to post about it, anyone who wants. I actually prefer a text-only welcome page, myself, because I like for people to actually read the guild rules and to learn what the guild is about, instead of thinking "What a pretty picture, I think I'll join" or "What a stupid picture, I don't want to be here."
